Pillage The Village 10K Ways Slot Review
A longship drifts through icy northern water at dusk, carved dragon prow curling out of the mist, a row of teal-and-cream shields lashed along the gunwale. Pillage The Village 10K Ways hides its best idea inside that hull: the two bonus rounds are built to be caught together, not separately, and the overlap is what makes the game worth a second look.
ReelPlay runs its familiar rig: a 6×4 grid with an extra top reel, 10,000 ways, high volatility, and a cash cap on a round that works out to 20,309x the top bet, with stakes from 0.20 to 12. It’s territory the studio worked in Armageddon 10K Ways and Hercules 10K Ways. The voyage between features is a long one, and the features are what it’s all about.
10,000 Ways and the Top Reel
Wins pay left to right on adjacent reels, and only the positions containing the winning symbol count towards it. The top reel sits above reels two to five and adds one symbol to the reel below it, which is what pushes the ways count towards the full 10,000. Every winning symbol then explodes and is replaced by symbols falling from above and sliding in from the right of the top reel, so one spin can chain into several.
The wild substitutes for everything except the two scatters, and it appears on the top reel only, so it arrives as part of the cascade flow rather than sitting on the main grid. Both scatters and the wild pay nothing on their own; the shields and chests work purely as triggers.
The paytable is top-heavy in the usual way. Premium symbols pay from as few as two matches, while the low card suits need three:
- Top premium: 6 pays 100x, 5 pays 30x, 4 pays 10x, 3 pays 5x, 2 pays 2x
- Second premium: 6 pays 5x, 5 pays 2.5x, 4 pays 1.5x, 3 pays 0.5x
- Third premium: 6 pays 2.5x, 5 pays 1.5x, 4 pays 0.75x, 3 pays 0.25x
- Fourth premium: 6 pays 2x, 5 pays 1x, 4 pays 0.5x, 3 pays 0.25x
- Fifth premium: 6 pays 1.2x, 5 pays 0.6x, 4 pays 0.3x, 3 pays 0.2x
- Low symbol one: 6 pays 1x, 5 pays 0.6x, 4 pays 0.3x, 3 pays 0.15x
- Low symbol two: 6 pays 0.9x, 5 pays 0.5x, 4 pays 0.3x, 3 pays 0.15x
- Low symbol three: 6 pays 0.7x, 5 pays 0.5x, 4 pays 0.25x, 3 pays 0.15x
- Low symbol four: 6 pays 0.6x, 5 pays 0.4x, 4 pays 0.25x, 3 pays 0.1x
- Low symbol five: 6 pays 0.5x, 5 pays 0.4x, 4 pays 0.2x, 3 pays 0.1x
Coinciding wins are added together, and only the highest combination pays per winning symbol, so a big cascade is a matter of many small additions rather than one inflated figure. All wins are multiplied by the total bet, which keeps the arithmetic simple across the bet range.
Hit frequency sits at 26.2%, so roughly one spin in four connects something. With the low end of that table paying fractions of the stake, the base game’s job is mostly to keep the cascades moving while you wait for the scatters.
Scattered Shield Free Spins
Four Scattered Shield symbols trigger 10 free spins. The shield lands on vertical reels two, three, four and five only, so the trigger can’t be built from the outer reels and can’t be shortcut by the top reel either. Free spins play at the bet of the triggering spin, and there’s no retrigger: the shields don’t appear on the reels during the round at all.
The round’s engine is the Win Multiplier. It starts at x1, climbs by one at the start of every cascade, and holds for the whole feature. There’s no upper limit on it, and it resets to 1 only when the round ends. Paytable wins during free spins are multiplied by whatever the meter has reached.
The clever part is the interaction with the other feature. If the Bonus Respins trigger while free spins are running, the respin total is multiplied by the Win Multiplier, so a late-round chest drop lands on a meter that’s had the whole feature to climb.
Scattered Chest Bonus Respins and the Prize Ladder
Six or more Scattered Chest symbols trigger the Bonus Respins, a hold-and-collect round ReelPlay has run before in its 10K Ways games. Every chest that lands is held in place, and you get three respins over the remaining positions. Each new chest that appears is also held, and the respin count resets to three.
The round ends when the respins run out or every visible position fills with chests. Wilds don’t appear during the round, and paytable symbol wins aren’t awarded; the chests carry everything. When the respins finish, each chest pays out its prize or bonus.
The bonus prizes are fixed multiples of the total bet, not progressive pots:
- Grand: 2,000x the bet, awarded at most once per round
- Major: 250x the bet, awarded at most once per round
- Minor: 50x the bet, can repeat within a round
- Mini: 10x the bet, can repeat within a round
The ordinary chest prizes step from 1x through 1.25x, 1.5x, 1.75x, 2x, 2.5x, 3x, 3.5x, 4x, 5x, 6x, 7x, 8x, 9x, 12x, 15x, 20x, 25x, 30x and 75x up to 100x. The amounts shown over the held chests are already multiplied by the total bet, so what you see on the tile is what lands in the meter.
The repeatable Mini and Minor matter more than they look. A screen that fills with chests can stack several of them alongside a single Grand, and during free spins the whole total takes the Win Multiplier on top. If both features trigger on the same spin, the respins play first, then the free spins.
One structural note: the round is capped in cash rather than in multiples. That cap equals 20,309x at the maximum 12 stake, and a larger multiple at smaller bets, since the cash ceiling stays fixed while the bet doesn’t.
Our Honest Verdict
Overall Rating: 7.6/10
Most of your time here is spent rowing. The reels tumble, the top reel feeds the middle four, and the wins that do land are usually smaller than the stake you just made. You keep going anyway, because the ship is gorgeous and the two rounds at the end of it are the entire reason to cast off.
Those rounds are the strength, and specifically the way they collide: an uncapped multiplier that’s had ten spins to build, dropped onto a chest screen whose small prizes can repeat, is where this game does its real damage. The weakness is the water in between. One win in four, mostly paying fractions, means the base game gives you very little to do but watch the dragon prow.
This one is for the patient collector who’ll sit through a cold stretch for a shot at the two features landing together. Anyone who wants the spins between bonuses to matter will find the sea empty. For the rest, there’s real treasure on this coastline.
