Sugar Train Xmas Slot Review
Hills of striped peppermint ribbon roll away under a bright blue sky, and a railway signal on a barber-pole post stands guard beside reels framed in candy-cane striping. Sugar Train Xmas is Eyecon‘s rare Christmas reskin that earns its snow: the features underneath the tinsel are built for this game, not recycled from its parent with a red coat on.
It runs on a 5×3 grid with 25 fixed paylines, at 94.975% RTP. The Christmas coat of paint is thick, but there are three separate bonus features underneath it, which is more than most festive reskins bother with. Sister titles such as Fluffy Favourites and Enchanted Prince show where this studio’s instincts live, and this one fits comfortably among them.
Base Game & Features
The reels sit in the middle of a snowy candyland, with the game’s logo in fat gumdrop letters capped with snow above and lollipops poking in at the corners. It’s a glossy, plastic-bright cartoon render, all primary reds and greens. Eyecon have dressed the set properly rather than dropping a few baubles on an existing frame.
Wins land on 25 fixed paylines, with only the highest combination on each line counting. The paytable is top-heavy in the classic Eyecon mould: the premium symbols pay from two of a kind, while the lower tiers need three. Here’s every row:
- Chocolate/Cookie – 20x, 200x, 1000x, 10000x the line bet for two, three, four and five
- Green Cactus/Candy – 10x, 60x, 200x, 2000x for two, three, four and five
- Red Heart – 4x, 30x, 150x, 1000x for two, three, four and five
- Gummy Bears – 4x, 30x, 150x, 1000x for two, three, four and five
- Green Star Cookie – 20x, 80x, 600x for three, four and five
- White Donut – 20x, 80x, 600x for three, four and five
- Candy Cane Bow – 10x, 60x, 400x for three, four and five
- Peppermint Candy – 10x, 60x, 400x for three, four and five
- Wrapped Present – 6x, 30x, 200x for three, four and five
- Cupcake – 6x, 30x, 200x for three, four and five
Five Chocolate Cookies at the top of that ladder is the biggest number the game quotes anywhere: 10,000x the line bet. The features cap lower, with the station round topping out at 500x the total wager, so the prizes are spread across the ladder rather than stacked at one summit.
The gap between tiers is steep at the top. Two Chocolate Cookies pays 20x the line bet, while five of them pays 500 times that, so the premium row carries most of the paytable’s range on its own. Further down, the middle rows cluster tightly: the Green Star Cookie and White Donut pay identically, as do the Candy Cane Bow and Peppermint Candy, and the Wrapped Present and Cupcake bring up the rear at 200x for five.
Two symbols do extra work beyond the paytable. The Present is a scatter that triggers the pick game, and the Gummy Bear is a scatter that triggers the free games. Both can appear anywhere on the reels, so they don’t need to sit on a payline to count.
Symbols are drawn from the same sweetshop shelf as the scenery: candy canes, donuts, gummy bears and wrapped gifts, with the dark round Chocolate Cookie standing in as the premium. It’s a consistent set, and every symbol on the reels belongs to the world around them.
Sugar Train Xmas Bonuses & Free Games
Three features carry the game, and each has its own trigger. Here’s the full map:
- Santa’s Station Bonus – the red indicator reaches the top of the wigwag
- Present Pick – three, four or five scattered Present symbols anywhere
- Free Games – three, four or five scattered Gummy Bear symbols anywhere
Santa’s Station Bonus
A red indicator climbs the wigwag beside the reels as you play, and when it reaches the top, the station round begins. It’s the game’s most involved feature, and it plays out in distinct steps.
First, a train deposits new carriages under the reels. Claws then reach into the train and retrieve five cookies, one at a time. Each cookie carries a prize of up to 100x the wager, and the values differ from cookie to cookie, so the five pulls aren’t five copies of the same result.
Whether a cookie pays depends on the claw holding it: drop the cookie on the way out and its prize is lost. Every cookie that survives the trip adds its value to the round, which pays up to 500x the total wager overall.
It can’t be triggered during the free games, and it can’t land on the same base spin as the Present Pick. If it triggers together with the free games on one spin, the station round plays out first and completes before the free games begin, so nothing is forfeited by the overlap.
Present Pick
Three, four or five scattered Present symbols anywhere on the reels award two, three or five picks respectively. Each pick can reveal a prize of up to 100x the total wager, and every prize is added together, so a five-scatter trigger gives five separate shots at the top value.
Unlike the station round, the Present Pick can be triggered during the free games. A free games spin that lands Present scatters adds a full pick round on top of whatever the spin itself pays, which is the one place in the game where two features combine on a single result.
Free Games
Three, four or five Gummy Bear scatters start 15, 20 or 25 free games respectively. Those are generous counts for a 25-line game, and the round runs on the same paylines and wager as the triggering spin, so nothing changes except the meter.
The free games can be retriggered, up to a maximum of 15 times, each retrigger adding another batch to the count. With the Present Pick also live during the round, a good triggering spin can snowball into a long stay.
Our Honest Verdict
Overall Rating: 7.1/10
This is a slow, sweet grind with a proper payoff waiting in the station. Sessions drift along on small line wins while the wigwag climbs and the scatters drift in, and the reason to choose it is that the bonuses feel like the point rather than an afterthought – the station round especially, with its claw-drops and its five-cookie ladder, is the most fun a Christmas reskin has any right to be.
The free games are the strength: 15 spins minimum, retriggers up to 15 times over, and the pick game still live inside the round. The weakness is the price of admission – 94.975% is a low return for a modern 25-liner, and the base game doesn’t pay enough to carry the wait on its own.
It’s for players who like Eyecon’s gentle, feature-led style and don’t chase volatility; anyone after big swings or a lean return will leave early. Everyone else can settle in by the signal light and let the train do the work. The presents arrive, and the candyland around them is genuinely well made.
