Thoro, the son of Odin and King of the Norse Gods is next in line to inherit the throne of Asgard. However, his mischievous brother Loki is lurking in the shadows, waiting to overpower him and take over Asgard.
Using a genius play on words, ELK Studios returns with an expansion to their beloved ‘Toro’ series. Since the release of Gladiatoro in November 2023, our favourite duo has been put on the back burner, making room for Pirots and the highly-anticipated Battle of Nitropolis series.
Thoro is a 5-reel electrifying slot featuring Walking Wilds, Respins, Multipliers, Free Spins, and an epic Super Free Spins round. Toro is understandably the star of the show, but will we catch a glimpse of Matador? Although rivalries, these two make quite a team, and it wouldn’t be the same without him.

Thoro is a 5-reel, 4-row Video Slot featuring 178 pay lines, and playable from £.€0.20 per spin, up to a maximum bet of £.€100 per spin. Wins are calculated when 3-5 identical symbols land from left to right, starting from the leftmost reel.
This game has 8 High and Low-paying symbols, with the highest-paying (Helmet) symbol producing wins of 5x your bet for a 5-line winning sequence. Wilds substitute for all symbols except Lightning, Scatter, Mjolnir, Loki, and Thoro symbols.
Thoro has a theoretical RTP of 94%, a Mid-High Volatility rating, and a max win cap of 10,000x your bet. Other statistics include a lower RTP of 87% and a Hit Frequency of 23.1%.
Lightning Symbols
During gameplay, special Lightning symbols can appear on reels 2, 3, and 4. Landing 4 or more Lightning symbols in a single spin will award a Cash Prize from the Lightning Paytable to the left of the reel set.

Loki Respin
Landing 2 or more Loki symbols in a single spin will trigger 1 Loki Respin. Once active, Loki symbols lock into their positions and remain so for the entire Respin feature.
Landing 1 Loki symbol during this time will award an additional Respin, regardless of the number of Loki symbols currently in view.
Thoro Thunder Strike
Landing a Thoro symbol when Loki symbols are in view, or vice versa, triggers the Thoro Thunder Strike feature. Thoro is a special Walking Wild that moves to the left until it reaches the leftmost reel and is removed. Each movement generates 1 Respin, with only one Thoro symbol in view at once.
During this feature, Scatter and Lightning symbols remain in the position they landed. Any Lightning wins or Free Spins accumulated during this time are awarded at the end of the feature.
Landing Loki symbols during this feature will cause Thoro to move vertically and horizontally, knocking off all Loki symbols in its path. Thoro continues to charge until all Loki symbols are defeated.
Thoro begins by charging at Loki symbols on the same reel, quickly moving to the left until all Loki symbols are wiped out. After this, Thoro will look to the right, charging at any additional Loki symbols. As Thoro charges, he leaves behind a trail of Wild symbols, potentially causing wins when there may not have been any.
Thoro – Thunder Strike Feature
Mjolnir Hammer
The Mjolnir Hammer is a special blocker symbol that appears when Thoro has not pulled it. Thoro will pull the hammer towards him, triggering the Mjolnir Feature.
During this feature, Thoro will continue to carry the Mjolnir Hammer, remaining active for the rest of the game round. Thoro can also randomly upgrade the Lightning paytable, or increase its own Multiplier so long as the Mjolnir feature is active. The Mjolnir feature awards a Respin as long as the Thoro Thunder Strike feature is not pending.

Conclusion
Thoro’s journey has been one of international glory, and now he’s a mythical legend. What chance does the Matador stand against Thoro if he can’t even handle Toro? Thoro is quite different from the other Toro games, as all of them seem to be different from each other. This time around, it seems as if ELK Studios has taken a 9 Masks of Fire Games Global-esque approach.
It certainly isn’t a statement release in our opinion, nor do we really think it improves upon the series in a significant way. X-iter features make it more exciting as the name would suggest, but these features aren’t available for all because of regulatory requirements.
Though not quite as powerful as he should be given his status as a deity, Thoro does have enough to keep players amply entertained. Lightning Symbols, Thunder Strike and the Mjolnir Hammer make it a varied game, and the 10,000x win potential may be enough in itself to reel in a few fans.
Overall, Thoro was neither a disappointment nor does it stand out as a very anticipated release. It’s just enough to give players an ELK Studios fix, and has plenty of potential.
