Wixx Slot Review
Deep magenta haze washes over a grid of cut gemstones, gold light running between the columns like seams and pooling on a glossy floor below. Wixx, Nolimit City‘s neon jewel box, stakes everything on a single rule: fill a row of crystals and the game rebuilds itself around them. That is a braver bet than it looks, because if the 4-hit doesn’t land there is very little else here.
It runs on a 4-reel, 3-row grid with 81 ways to win, an RTP of 96.61% and a top payout of 2,802x the bet. Stakes run from 0.10 to 100 per spin. For a studio better known for Fire in the Hole xBomb and Deadwood, not to mention the Punk Rocker series, a game this small is a curiosity.
A single spin will tell you whether the crystals hold your attention.
Crystals, Shards and 81 Ways
Eight symbols is the whole roster: three crystals and five shards. Wins pay left to right on adjacent reels, with the number of ways for the winning symbol multiplied by its paytable value to reach the prize. Coinciding wins on different combinations are all paid, and only the highest win per bet way counts.
Each symbol pays at two tiers, and the values are multiples of the total bet:
- Ruby Crystal – 0.5x for three, 5x for four
- Topaz Crystal – 0.5x for three, 3.5x for four
- Sapphire Crystal – 0.5x for three, 2.5x for four
- Yellow Shard and Purple Shard – 0.3x for three, 1x for four
- Teal Shard and Blue Shard – 0.2x for three, 0.8x for four
- Wild – 5x for four
The Wild substitutes for any other symbol, always for the highest possible winning combination on its way, and four of them pay the same 5x as the Ruby. The shards sit in two pairs of equal value, so the real hierarchy is between the crystals. Ruby, Topaz, then Sapphire, with a meaningful gap between each at the four-of-a-kind tier.
The ways count comes straight from the grid. Three rows on each of four reels gives three possible positions per reel, and 3 x 3 x 3 x 3 makes 81. A symbol landing on every row of all four reels is the maximum spread, worth 81 ways at the four-of-a-kind value; a three-reel win counts only the ways its occupied positions can form.
On a 4-reel grid, three-of-a-kind pays are the common case and they are modest, since the highest tier needs all four reels. The hit frequency is 18.59%, so rather more than four spins in five return nothing. That is the shape of the game: quiet spins, then a respin that changes the board.
Wins are also capped by the longest combination rule, so only the best combination per symbol is paid according to the paytable.
Booster Respins
Every feature in Wixx hangs off one rule. A 4-hit on a crystal – all four Ruby, Topaz or Sapphire symbols landing together – awards a booster respin keyed to that crystal. Rubies, Topaz and Sapphires each have their own version, and the respin plays out on a reconfigured set of reels built to pay that crystal.
The three single-crystal respins:
- Ruby booster respin – triggered by a 4-hit on red Rubies; all Ruby symbols transform into Wilds and stack on the reels
- Topaz booster respin – triggered by a 4-hit on yellow Topaz; all crystals become boosted symbols with payouts multiplied by 5, and the Topaz symbol stacks
- Sapphire booster respin – triggered by a 4-hit on blue Sapphires; the Sapphire stacks and reel 4 holds Sapphires exclusively
Ruby Booster Respin
A 4-hit on red Rubies turns every Ruby on the grid into a Wild and stacks them on the reels for the respin. With the top symbol converting into the substitute, the respin is effectively a shot at Wild-filled columns. Four stacked Wilds down the middle is what the mode is built around.
The Wild pays 5x alongside everything it completes, so the ceiling of the respin is higher than the trigger that opened it.
Topaz Booster Respin
A 4-hit on yellow Topaz boosts every crystal on the grid, multiplying all crystal payouts by 5 for the respin, and stacks the Topaz symbol itself. Because the multiplier applies to Rubies and Sapphires too, the Topaz respin can outpay the symbol that triggered it. A full Ruby combination through the multiplier is worth more than the Ruby respin’s own conversion would have been, which is the quiet irony of the middle crystal.
Sapphire Booster Respin
A 4-hit on blue Sapphires stacks the Sapphire symbol and locks reel 4 to Sapphires only. The last reel becomes a guaranteed part of every Sapphire combination, which lifts the ways count on the cheapest crystal of the three. Respins cannot be retriggered, so what lands on the respin is what you get.
Super Booster Respins
The clever part is what happens when two crystals 4-hit at once. The features don’t compete – they combine into a super booster respin, layering both crystals’ effects on a single spin. There are three pairings, each with its own reel setup, and each one answering a different question about which crystal’s effect dominates.
The combinations and what they do:
- Ruby & Topaz – Rubies become Wilds, Ruby, Topaz and Wild symbols all stack, and all wins on crystals and Wilds are multiplied by 5
- Ruby & Sapphire – Rubies become Wilds, Ruby, Sapphire and Wild symbols stack, and reel 4 holds Wild symbols only
- Topaz & Sapphire – Sapphire, Topaz and Wild symbols stack, all crystal wins are multiplied by 5, and reel 4 holds Wild symbols only
The Ruby and Sapphire pairing is the one to want: a stacked Wild reel on the end of the grid, with the rest of the board carrying converted and stacked premium symbols. The Topaz pairings are where the money multiplies, though. The factor of 5 applied across boosted crystals and stacked symbols at once is the densest arrangement of effects the game can produce.
Features and spin results affect each other within a round, which is why a single spin can build into something much larger than its parts. The reel configuration differs from the main game in these modes, and that is deliberate. The respin grids are narrower and more specialised, cut down to pay the crystal that earned them.
Our Honest Verdict
Overall Rating: 7.1/10
Playing Wixx is watching a dark grid of gemstones do nothing, then briefly catch fire when a full row of crystals lands and the game reshapes itself around them. That instant of transformation is the reason to pick it: no scatter chase, no pick-me screens, just one trigger that visibly rebuilds the reels.
The super booster pairings are its best work, because the pairings aren’t watered-down versions of the singles – Ruby and Sapphire’s Wild-only fourth reel genuinely pays harder than either crystal alone. The flat side is the space in between. Four spins in five return nothing, there’s no retrigger to build on a good respin, and the shard symbols are filler you learn to stop reading.
This is a game for players who like a short, readable slot they can understand in ten spins, and it isn’t one for anyone after the raw extremes of this studio’s bigger machines. If the crystals glow for you, the neon floor is worth the wait.
