Xo Ho Ho Xmas Catch Slot Review
Three black Victorian street lamps glow amber along a snow-capped timber frame, a pine garland with fairy lights twists down both posts, and somewhere behind the reels a wooden cabin sits under a deep blue Christmas-night sky. Xo Ho Ho Xmas Catch spends almost all of its charm budget on that window frame, because behind it there’s barely a game at all until the bonus arrives – and that’s a fair trade here, since the round it’s saving everything for is the only one worth saving for.
The studio behind it is Spin Joy Games, dressing the fisherman-collector format in tinsel. It runs on a 5×3 grid with 10 fixed paylines at 94.198% RTP, and everything that matters happens inside one escalating free spins round.
Base Game & Features
It’s a 5×3 grid with 10 fixed paylines, evaluated left to right on adjacent reels starting from the leftmost one. Wins that land on different lines at the same time are added together, and each line settles on its single longest matching run. Every pay is calculated against the total bet, not a per-line stake.
That’s the entire base game. There’s no random modifier, no respin, nothing to break up the line wins between scatter hits. What you’re left with is a paytable that does its job without ever getting exciting.
The symbol values, as multiples of the total bet for three, four and five of a kind:
- Santa / Stocking – 5x, 20x, 50x
- Fish Ornament – 2.5x, 6x, 24x
- Gift – 1x, 2.5x, 12x
- Holly / A – 0.8x, 2x, 10x
- K / Q – 0.7x, 1.5x, 8x
- J / 10 / Snowglobe – 0.5x, 1x, 5x
Several symbols share a tier, so the reels read differently than you’d expect. Santa and the Stocking pay identically, as do Holly and the A, K and Q, and J, 10 and the Snowglobe – a mixed row of the bottom tier pays the same whichever of the three lands. There’s a real drop from the top tier to the second before the royals take over the bottom half, and the shared tiers mean the ladder feels flatter than six rows suggest.
The Snowglobe doubling as a low-pay royal is a nice touch – it’s the game’s most festive symbol sitting at the bottom of the ladder, joining J and 10 on the same pays. The Fisherman Wild doesn’t appear in the base game at all; he belongs entirely to the free spins, where he does the real work. What the base game does offer is Scatters, the only symbols with a job beyond the paytable.
Xo Ho Ho Xmas Catch Free Spins & Snowball Collection
Free Spins
Scatters are the way in. Land 3, 4 or 5 of them anywhere on the reels and the round begins with 10 free spins – the count is the same however many scatters triggered it, so a five-scatter hit buys nothing extra beyond the trigger itself. Everything that makes this game interesting happens inside those spins.
Fisherman Wild & Snowball Collection
During the free spins, Snowball Money Symbols land carrying random cash values based on the current bet. They don’t pay as line wins – they just sit on the reels holding their value, waiting.
The Fisherman Wild is what cashes them in. When he appears, he collects the values shown on every Snowball on screen and pays them all out in one go. Each appearance can sweep up a full grid of values, and nothing is left behind – whatever’s visible when he lands is what’s paid.
The two symbol types don’t interact any other way. Snowballs that land without a Fisherman on the same spin are simply gone when the next spin rolls in, so every collection is a single-screen event rather than something that builds across spins. The round’s real accumulation happens on the Wild counter instead.
It’s a simple collector loop on its own, and it would make for a decent round at that. The retrigger ladder is what turns it into something worth chasing.
Retriggers & Multiplier Ladder
The Fisherman doesn’t just collect – he counts. Every fourth Wild he collects retriggers the round, adding free spins and stepping the payout multiplier up a level:
- 1st retrigger – 2 extra free spins, multiplier rises to x2
- 2nd retrigger – 2 extra free spins, multiplier rises to x3
- 3rd retrigger – 2 extra free spins, multiplier rises to x5
The multiplier applies to all Snowball values collected while that level is active, so the same screen of snowballs is worth five times more at the top of the ladder than at the start. Two retriggers in, you need eight collected Wilds; a full climb to x5 takes twelve. Each one of those Wilds also paid a screen of values on the way past, which is what keeps the round alive while the ladder builds.
That escalation gives the round a genuine arc. The longer it runs, the harder each collection hits, and the spins themselves keep arriving as the Wild count grows.
Buy Free Spins
For players who’d rather skip the scatter wait, the free spins round can be bought outright:
- Free Spins – 77x the total bet, for immediate access to the 10-spin round with the full Fisherman Wild and multiplier mechanics
There’s a single tier, no gamble on which variant you’ll get, and no multiplier head start – the bought round is exactly the round the scatters award, ladder and all. It’s a straightforward door into the only part of the game with any depth.
Our Honest Verdict
Overall Rating: 6.9/10
Playing this is mostly waiting by a very pretty window. The base game is line wins and nothing else, and the reason anybody sits through it is the free spins – a round that starts slow and then keeps paying better the longer it runs, snowballs stacking into something worthwhile while the lamps glow outside.
The multiplier ladder is the best thing here: a long round genuinely compounds, so the twelfth Wild pays far more than the first did. The flat, shared paytable is the worst – between triggers, this game gives you almost nothing to look at on the reels themselves.
If you like a patient build towards one escalating round, this does that well, and the 77x buy respects your time. Anyone who wants something happening on every spin will find the garland and the fairy lights thin company. For the patient kind, the fireside arithmetic works.
