Maya: Who is behind 24Karot, and what brought the team together?
We’re not quite ready to step into the spotlight yet [laughs]. Buck the bandit rabbit is enjoying the attention, and we’d hate to tell him he’s just the mascot.
Behind the mask, we’re a team of iGaming professionals brought together by a simple ambition: to bring the fun back to slots. We’ve spent years in the industry, but we haven’t forgotten why we started playing (or making games) in the first place.
Maya: What were you doing in the games industry before starting the studio, and what made you decide to build your own slots?
We came together with a growing suspicious that the industry is competing to see who can squeeze the most mechanics onto one screen. We’re happy to sit that particular contest out.
24KarotTM Games is a boutique studio born out of wanting to make games we enjoy building and playing: familiar themes, easy-to-follow gameplay and, above all, fun.
There’s plenty of details behind what we do, but players shouldn’t need to read the manual to play. They should be able to get straight into the action. Buck has many talents; explaining a 40-page rulebook isn’t one of them.
Maya: What sort of player are you designing for, and what do you want them to associate with the 24Karot name?
Our audience is mobile-first, connected and drawn to American pop culture. They want something fast, intuitive, and easy to get into.
When they see 24KarotTM, we want them to think: “This looks fun. I know what I’m doing.” Followed, perhaps, by: “What’s Buck up to now?”
Maya: As a new studio, how do you decide which game ideas are worth taking into production?
You’ve gone straight to the carrot. We have designed a 24Karot formula: take a familiar theme, make the gameplay clear, and add a twist that gives it a personality of its own.
It sounds simple. Funny part, it´s not easy. The twist needs to add something worth playing, rather than another paragraph to the instructions.
As for the secret ingredient, Buck’s keeping that to himself. We’ve already said too much.

Maya: Buffalo Horizon is your debut. Why did you choose it as the first game players would see from 24Karot?
The buffalo is practically slot royalty. It’s recognisable across generations of players and fits naturally with the American influences behind our games. A strong opening act, although getting one through the studio door was a challenge.
But there is nothing fun in putting another buffalo against another sunset and calling it a day. We added the Rooftop Slot, a 3×1 mini slot above the main reels that brings another layer of action.
That made Buffalo Horizon a good introduction to 24Karot: a familiar face, straightforward gameplay and something a little unexpected upstairs.
Maya: Its Rooftop Slot sits above the main reels. Where did that idea come from, and how did you decide what it should add to the gameplay?
The idea was to give each spin more going on without making the game harder to follow. The Rooftop Slot creates another place to look for action, with additional opportunities to trigger features.
When an Expanding Wild lands up there, it extends down into the main 5×3 grid, helping to form winning combinations.
Unlock Free Spins by landing 3 Free Spins symbols whether is in the Rooftop or in the base grid.
And Land three Ranger Symbols on the Rooftop Slot and the Rangers take over. A randomly selected symbol expands into a 3×3 block and locks in the centre of the main reels for three Ranger Spins. They certainly know how to make themselves at home.
Maya: What was the biggest design challenge you faced while making Buffalo Horizon?
Making it simple. Which is a slightly annoying answer, considering how much work that took.
We want players to understand the game quickly but still have interesting moments to discover. Getting that balance right means plenty of fine-tuning: what happens, when it happens and how clearly we show it.
There’s a lot of attention to detail behind an experience that feels effortless. Ideally, we do the heavy thinking, so the player doesn’t have to.
Maya: How does joining YGG Champions fit into your plans for distribution and growth?
Even a bandit rabbit needs a good crew, and Yggdrasil brings the technology, distribution and commercial support to help us grow. That gives us more room to focus on making games, while the creative ideas, themes and direction remain ours.
Game in a Box™ also helps us move faster without a established infrastructure behind us. We can refine gameplay during production and act on opportunities to improve the experience as it takes shape.
That creative flexibility matters. A good idea doesn’t always arrive politely at the start of a project. Sometimes it turns up halfway through and expects everyone to make room.

Maya: What comes after Buffalo Horizon? Are there particular themes or mechanics you’re keen to explore?
In early November, we’re swapping the great outdoors for the casino floor with X Wheel Deal. Dust off the walking boots, put on something shiny.
It brings a touch of Las Vegas glamour to a classic 3×3 reel format, with Jackpot Bonus Games, a Full Board Multiplier of up to 10× and Second Chance Respins.
It’s another take on what we enjoy: familiar surroundings, straightforward action and a few surprises. Buck hasn’t confirmed the dress code, but we suspect he’ll wear his lucky tuxedo.
Maya: For a studio players are meeting for the first time, what can a FruitySlots stream or gameplay video reveal about Buffalo Horizon that screenshots and a trailer cannot?
Playing the game gives you a feel for how the main reels and Rooftop Slot work together, especially when three Ranger Symbols trigger the Ranger Spins. That’s when a randomly selected symbol expands into a 3×3 block, locks in the centre and stays there for all three spins. The Rangers certainly know how to make an entrance.
Watching that unfold, with a streamer reacting along the way, brings the feature to life. We can explain how it works, but seeing it in action does a much better job. Buck would explain it himself, but he’s still chasing the Rangers.
