Moon Princess Power of Love Slot Review

Step aside Love, Star, and Storm, it’s the turn of Blaze and Hall, two strapping anime Princes, to assume starring roles in the latest iteration to roll off the Moon Princess production line.

We’ve been treated to a ‘100’ version, a release cloaked in Christmas decor, and more latterly, a ‘Trinity’ titled creation. Now, veteran developer Play’n GO has gone and wrung even more mileage out of the iconic series with the release of Moon Princess Power of Love where, as mentioned, girl power is swapped out for some dashing male bravado, applying a smattering of new features to a most familiar outer wrapper.

Set among the clouds in some celestial realm, this is another ‘force from above’, in the words of ‘Power of Love’ artist, Frankie Goes to Hollywood. Afraid any similarities to that iconic hit end there, folks.

So, how does the pair of spikey-haired beaus square up against their girly predecessors? Only one way to find out…

Moon Princess Power of Love Base Game

Moon Princess Power of Love Base Game and Features

As before, the game’s chief protagonists take it in turns to hover to the right side of a 5×5 game panel run by a game engine reliant on cluster combinations and regular line wins to award payouts.

Scored High in the variance stakes, a quarter of miscellaneous objects depict the low pays, complemented by the stars of the show whose values each top out at 3x your wager when wins formed of 5 matching symbols show up.

Wilds also have a part to play in Moon Princess Power of Love, stepping in to replace regular symbols while additionally doling out payouts equal to 10x the stake for 5OAK combos.

Character Power

The Character Power feature may trigger at random upon a fruitless spin. Although no financial reward is guaranteed, it performs the following functions depending on which character is located to the side of the grid at the time of the triggering spin:

  • Love – Picks one set of symbols and transforms all these into one other random type.
  • Blaze – Blaze injects between 2 and 4 identical symbols onto the reels.
  • Hail – With Hail enabled, 2 reels are synched to display the exact same symbols, ‘Twin Spin’ stylee.

Love Triangle

The Love Triangle found in Moon Princess Power of Love is one you surely wouldn’t mind getting caught up in. How it functions is that for every winning line consisting of 3-5 Characters symbols, a respective amount of 1, 2, or 3 sections are added to a meter.

Fill all 3 sections, and a ‘Love Triangle’ Free Spin is granted that sees the meter reset while all three characters award their respective modifier on non-winning cascades until the point at which all three have been exhausted. Clear the grid entirely to initiate Free Spins, explained below.

Free Spins

Once triggered, players get to carry over the triggering multiplier value from the Love Triangle feature to start. Play kicks off with the relatively lowly amount of 4 Free Spins, but one of the three characters is guaranteed to perform their respective modifier upon every non-paying spin – which occurred fairly frequently during our trial run, it must be said.

In addition, Love also summons her girly power regardless of the outcome, adding further fuel to the fire. Moreover, it’s possible to earn up to 100 (yes, 100) extra spins every time the Power Meter is filled in full and on a final note, the multiplier is progressive throughout, topping out at 100x. What’s with the continued obsession with the number 100 anyway?

Moon Princess Power of Love: Our Verdict

Play’n GO has laid on just enough tweaks to keep the Moon Princess saga alive and fresh, while the introduction of a pair of handsome male lead roles threw something of a curveball and should keep most Moon Princess fanatics on their toes.

Much of the aesthetics have remained more or less the same, but the introduction of new features does inject new life into the series. It’s not all doom and gloom for those who pine for the trio of cute princesses as Star does make a return – an effort on the studio’s part to retain as much of its male fan base as possible? Most likely. It would have been equally as seamless to fabricate a third male character, surely.

The core mechanics are all there – cascades, symbol collection, modifier triggers – ensuring the core Moon Princess essence is replicated for the latest iteration, albeit with a hearty dose of masculinity punctuated by the occasional feminine interjection. Granted, a starting haul of 4 Free Spins is far from generous, however character modifiers trigger with enough of a frequency to supply added thrills, plus Star is guaranteed to activate hers on each occasion.

Added to a considerable 15,000x max win, Moon Princess Power of Love can be considered another worthy entry into the series and there’s easily enough in store for fans to consider a few bashes of the spin button, regardless of their sexual orientation
