It’s been a long while since the Green Knight challenged Sir Garwain to a deadly battle, now he’s back to finish what he started, where a new champion must bravely face him.

Return of the Green Knight Base Game and Features

Return of the Green Knight is a 5-reel Video Slot with 20 fixed pay lines. Winning combinations are formed when 3 or more of the same symbols land from left to right, starting from the leftmost reel.

The minimum bet available here is £.€0.10 per spin and the maximum bet available is £.€100 per spin, with plenty of other options in between the two. This game has a theoretical RTP of 96.00% and a max win cap of 40,000x.

In terms of symbols, the highest-paying regular symbol here is the Character with the Gold Frame, followed by Characters with the Purple, Red, and Blue Frames. Low-paying symbols are standard Ace, King, Queen, Jack, and Ten. Wilds substitute for all High and Low-paying symbols.

Wild Multiplier

During any random spin, whenever a Wild symbol is present, 1 of 5 Wild Multipliers from the meter above the reel set can be applied to it or them if there is more than 1 Wild in view. Wild Multiplier values: x2, x5, x10, x25, and x100. The Wild Multiplier value will automatically multiply all wins the Wild symbol is a part of by its value.

Return of the Green Knight Free Spins

Landing 3, 4, or 5 Green Knight Scatters across the reels in the base game triggers the Free Spins round, awarding 5 Free Spins and a payout of 2.5x, 5x, and 100x your bet respectively.

During Free Spins, all Wilds that land in view will have the current Wild Multiplier value applied to them. The Wild Multiplier will climb with each Free Spin until it reaches the x100 Wild Multiplier value.

Landing 2 or more Green Knight Scatters during this time will award +5 Shield Spins and another payout per your bet. Once Shield Spins is active, the Wild Multiplier value is locked, and all Wilds that land are held for all 5 Shield Spins.

Green Knight Scatters do not appear in Shield Spins, and the round cannot be retriggered whilst in Shield Spins. At the end of Shield Spins, the Free Spins round will pick up where it left off unless there are no more Free Spins left.

Return of the Green Knight: Our Verdict

Return of the Green Knight is a chip off the old block but with one exciting exception. The Green Knight was generous enough to offer up 10,000x as a max win cap, but here you can walk away 40,000x better off.  There are a few noticeable differences in the design as well, but Play’n GO has kept these to a minimum.

With Play’n GO sticking firmly to their decision to avoid Bonus Buys, Return of the Green Knight requires a certain amount of oomph if it is to keep players ticking along. Although gameplay is quite simple, it has a certain amount of flare to it which is instantly boosted by the success of the first release.

The Wild Multiplier values haven’t budged since The Green Knight, it’s a shame really considering this one has a huge amount of potential to offer its players.

The Free Spins round in The Green Knight was quite tricky to come by, but it seems Play’n GO has had a slight change of heart and made this more achievable, or it could just be that we had a good run during testing. 5 Free Spins doesn’t feel overly generous, but good things can happen during them, especially if you manage to trigger Shield Spins on the x100 Wild Multiplier meter.

All in all, we welcome the Return of the Green Knight with open arms, and we hope he does the same for us this time round!
