Area Link Wolf Unleashed Slot Review
A huge white wolf keeps watch along the left edge of the reels, its fur catching the aurora’s green and violet, dark pines and a sunset-lit ridge behind a gold-and-timber grid. The wilderness is the best-looking thing about the base game, because the reels themselves are the least important part of Wolf Unleashed. Five of a kind of the top symbol returns five times the line stake, and everything the game actually offers is waiting behind the Moons.
AreaVegas Games has built Wolf Unleashed on a 5×3 grid with 20 paylines, at 96.50% RTP and medium-high volatility, with stakes from 0.20 to 50.00 per spin. It shares its collect-and-upgrade DNA with Area Link Vegas and Area Link Bank Baron, both of which make the same bargain: a thin base game in exchange for an intricate bonus system. The pack here is bigger, and so are its teeth.
Base Game & Features
The paytable doesn’t pretend the reels are the point. Wins pay left to right across the 20 fixed paylines, payouts are based on the initial bet, and if multiple combinations land on a single line only the highest one counts. The total payout is the sum of every line win from the spin. Here’s what each symbol returns as a multiple of the line stake:
- Bear: five of a kind pays 5x the line stake, four pays 1x, three pays 0.5x
- Cougar and Eagle: 2.5x, 0.5x and 0.25x for five, four and three respectively
- Moose and Deer: a 2x top hit, dropping to 0.5x and then 0.25x
- Royals (A, K, Q, J, 10, 9): 1x at five of a kind, with 0.25x and 0.1x below that
Five of a kind of the top symbol returns five times the line stake, and that’s the ceiling on ordinary reel wins. It tells you plainly where the real money lives: the feature.
The Wolf wild is the one symbol doing active work up here, and even that is modest. It’s stacked on all reels and substitutes for every symbol except the Moon. It can also form its own winning combinations when it lines up across a payline.
A Double Bonus indicator sits in the top right of the screen alongside the moon counters, flagging when the bonus terms are doubled. Beyond that, the reels are scenery between triggers, which is the standard arrangement for this family of collectors. The stack of Wolves is the only regular source of anything resembling a decent base hit.
Area Link Wolf Unleashed Bonus Features
Whenever one or more Moon symbols land, there’s a chance the Area Link feature triggers. Each Moon collects to the Moon of the same colour above the reels, and the combination of colours that collect determines which Moon Upgrades you’re awarded. It’s a hold-and-collect round at heart, and it runs to a fixed pattern:
- Three respins are awarded, with all Moon symbols locked in place
- Every additional Moon that lands resets the remaining respins to three
- Each Moon carries a cash prize or a jackpot
- All prizes are paid at the end of the feature
- The round ends when the respins run out or every position fills
Filling the entire board awards the GRAND jackpot on top of every collected prize, which is the round’s true destination: a full grid is the outcome every respin is working towards. Four coloured upgrades can modify the round before it begins, and they’re where the game’s depth sits.
Red Moon Upgrade
The Red Moon adds a random multiplier of 2, 3 or 5 to every spin of the feature. White Moons are multiplied once, at the moment they first lock into place, so the timing of a Moon’s arrival matters as much as its printed value. A high-value Moon locking in early gets no second bite; a modest one landing under a 5x does just fine.
Purple Moon Upgrade
The Purple Moon awards a second Area Link array, and each array plays out independently. The feature only ends when both arrays have either completed their spins or filled all positions, effectively doubling the board and the collection potential in one hit. Two boards also means two shots at the full-house GRAND.
Yellow Moon Upgrade
Yellow Moons appear during the feature and instantly collect all new credit prizes and jackpots on the board. Once the Yellow Moon has done its work, a fresh White Moon is created in its place, so the board keeps its structure while the values get banked. It’s the one upgrade that converts progress into guaranteed money mid-round.
Blue Moon Upgrade
The Blue Moon takes its value and adds it to a random number of White Moons, and a single Blue Moon’s value can be added to the same White Moon multiple times. Like the Yellow Moon, it converts back into a White Moon after completing its feature, so nothing is lost from the board’s shape.
Multiple Moon Upgrades
Upgrades can stack, and each pairing has its own written interaction rule:
- Red + Purple: the multiplier applies to all new White Moons on both arrays
- Red + Yellow: the multiplier applies to the White Moon created after the Yellow feature
- Red + Blue: the multiplier applies before the Blue Moon feature resolves
- Yellow + Purple: Yellow only collects values within its own array
- Yellow + Blue: all Blue Moon features occur before any Yellow Moon features
- Blue + Purple: Blue only adds to White Moons within its own array
Written interaction rules are rare in this genre. Most collectors let the upgrades collide and leave you to work out what happened; this one documents the collisions, which matters when a doubled array is multiplying and collecting at the same time.
Our Honest Verdict
Overall Rating: 7.6/10
Playing Wolf Unleashed is mostly waiting under a very pretty sky: you spin, the aurora glows, the wolf watches, and the reels give you almost nothing until the Moons show up. The reason to choose it is what happens next. The Area Link round is the best version of this mechanic AreaVegas has shipped yet, because every upgrade pairing has a written rule instead of a shrug, and stacking a Red multiplier across two Purple arrays plays like a different game each time it lands.
The flaw is that the game won’t tell you what it’s capable of. No maximum win figure exists for this one, and a jackpot slot asking you to chase a ceiling it keeps to itself is asking a lot.
This is one for players who judge a slot by its bonus round and enjoy learning a mechanic’s edge cases; it isn’t one for anyone who needs the spins themselves to matter or a stated ceiling before committing a bankroll. Under this northern sky, the patient hunters eat well.
