About AreaVegas Games
Not many slot studios can claim to be literally based in Las Vegas. AreaVegas Games can, and it is not just a branding choice. Founded in 2022 by Anton Kuhlmann and Serena Petersen, the CEO and COO who previously built SpinPlay Games into one of the most respected independent studios on the Microgaming platform, AreaVegas was created from day one with a single, unapologetic mission: to bottle the energy of the Strip and bring it to players everywhere.
The SpinPlay connection is crucial context. Established in 2019 by mathematicians with deep roots in land-based gaming, SpinPlay built its reputation around what the team call math-first design, the philosophy that a slot’s mathematical model is not just a technical requirement but the foundation of whether a game feels rewarding to play. SpinPlay developed some of the most commercially successful titles in the Games Global network, including the Amazing Link franchise and the Wild Link series. When Kuhlmann and Petersen launched AreaVegas in 2022 as a separate studio, they brought that same mathematical rigour with them, applying it to a fresh brand identity and a new series of proprietary mechanics.
The studio made history as the first independent brand to launch under Games Global following the transition of Microgaming’s Quickfire platform, debuting in April 2023 with Area Link Phoenix. That debut did two things simultaneously: it introduced the studio’s proprietary Area Link mechanic to the market and it immediately put AreaVegas on the radar of operators and players worldwide. Area Link works as an evolved take on the Hold and Win respin format. Fireball symbols land on the reels and link to corresponding eggs positioned above the grid, with the combination of collected fireballs determining a Phoenix Upgrade awarded at the end of the feature. Upgrades can apply multipliers up to 5x, double the playing area, boost prize values across the grid, or add further modifiers, creating a layered progression system where no two bonus rounds play out identically. The most recent iteration, Area Link Phoenix Firestorm, added two new egg types and the Firestorm feature that can trigger Area Link with random upgrades from the base game, pushing the format further than its original design.
The Rush Express mechanic arrived next and introduced an entirely different collect-and-pay system. Bell or Train symbols landing on the outer reels alongside Rush Express icons trigger a feature where cash prizes collect, multipliers of up to 10x apply, and fixed jackpots reach up to 5,000x. Gold Rush Express used the mechanic in a gold mining theme and earned a nomination for Best iGaming Product at the European iGaming Excellence Awards in 2024. Cat’s Meow Rush Express brought a playful feline spin to the same system. The Area Surge series introduced Cash Collect and Cash Upgrade features for instant prize collection and enhancement. Area Blast, used in the fishing-themed Area Blast Double Bass, added a respin system where every new fish prize landing increments a growing multiplier applied to all collected values.
The studio now has over 30 titles available across more than 240 casinos worldwide through the Games Global platform, with RTPs sitting consistently around 96.45% to 96.5% and volatility spanning medium through high across the range.
“AreaVegas are a studio that hit the ground running and never really slowed down. The Area Link mechanic has real depth to it, the Rush Express games are brilliantly executed, and the fact they won Rookie of the Year against some strong competition tells you everything about how well their games have been received. A genuinely impressive studio backed by serious mathematical talent.” Mark, Content Editor
“Really enjoy the AreaVegas slots. The Area Link Phoenix games are some of my favourite bonus rounds right now, the upgrades make every feature feel different. Gold Rush Express is excellent too. They came from SpinPlay which already had a brilliant reputation and AreaVegas is living up to it. Solid games throughout.”

FAQs about AreaVegas Games
-
Las Vegas as a base for a slot studio. Is that as significant as it sounds?
Yes, genuinely. AreaVegas was founded in Las Vegas in 2022 by Anton Kuhlmann and Serena Petersen, the same duo behind SpinPlay Games, a studio built by mathematicians with deep roots in land-based gaming. That background in how slot machines are built and played in a real gambling environment feeds directly into how AreaVegas approaches every mechanic and mathematics model. -
What is the connection between AreaVegas and SpinPlay Games?
AreaVegas was created by SpinPlay’s founding team as a separate studio with its own brand identity and proprietary mechanics. SpinPlay is known for the Amazing Link franchise and the Wild Link series within the Games Global network. AreaVegas carries the same math-first design philosophy but applies it through new mechanics including Area Link, Rush Express, Area Surge, and Area Blast. -
What is the Area Link mechanic and how does it work?
Area Link is AreaVegas’s proprietary evolution of the Hold and Win respin format. Fireball symbols land on the reels and link to coloured eggs above the grid, with the collected combination determining which Phoenix Upgrade is awarded. Upgrades can apply multipliers up to 5x, double the playing area, boost all visible prize values, or add further modifiers. Because the upgrade depends on which fireballs collect, no two bonus rounds play out identically. The Firestorm variant adds a base game trigger and two new egg types, pushing the feature further. -
What volatility and RTP can I expect?
RTPs sit consistently around 96.45% to 96.5% across the main titles, which is above the industry average. Volatility ranges from medium in earlier Area Link releases through to high in more recent titles, and maximum wins reach up to 5,000x on Area Link and Rush Express titles with fixed jackpot tiers sitting within every release. -
How many games does AreaVegas currently have?
Over 30 titles available across more than 240 casinos worldwide through the Games Global platform. The catalogue is growing steadily with new entries across all four proprietary mechanic families: Area Link, Rush Express, Area Surge, and Area Blast.
