Area Link Dragon Slot Review
An enormous orange-scaled dragon stands watch along the right edge of the screen, wings folded, white eyes glowing under a blood-red storm sky. Four giant eggs – green, purple, red and icy blue – sit in a row above the reels, forked lightning branching across the crimson clouds behind jagged black ridges. It’s a lush, glossy piece of 3D fantasy rendering, and the reel frame’s gold edging rests on a band of glowing ember light.
That’s the stage AreaVegas Games has set for Area Link Dragon, and it’s a good one: a 5×3 grid, 20 fixed paylines, 96.50% RTP and high volatility. It runs on the same collect-and-upgrade engine as Area Link Bank Blast and Area Link Wolf Unleashed. A dragon’s hoard suits the format, since everything on screen feeds the pile.
Base Game & Features
This is a five-reel, three-row slot with 20 fixed paylines. Wins pay left to right from the first reel, and the total payout is the sum of all line wins in a spin. Where multiple combinations land on a single line, only the highest one counts. Stakes run from 0.20 to 50.00 per spin.
The total bet is built from an initial bet multiplied by the cost of the 20 paylines, so the initial bet is the total divided by 20. Payouts on the paytable are quoted against that initial bet, and the paytable itself adjusts to show values for whatever you’re currently staking.
Wins land on 28.70% of spins, which is a fair hit rate for a high-volatility build. Most of those wins will be small. The paytable is thin at the top and thins out fast:
- Chest – 5x for five, 1x for four, 0.5x for three
- Purple Crystals and Torch – 2.5x for five, 0.5x for four, 0.25x for three
- Blue Pendant and Green Ring – 2x for five, 0.5x for four, 0.25x for three
- A, K, Q, J, 10 and 9 – 1x for five, 0.25x for four, 0.1x for three
Read that list from the bottom up and the shape of the base game is obvious: three royals pay a tenth of your stake for a three-of-a-kind, so line wins are pocket change against a 0.20 minimum stake. Even the Chest, at 5x for five, isn’t buying a feature. The spins in between bonuses run on drips.
Dragon symbols are wild. They substitute for everything except Fireballs, and they can form their own winning combinations on a payline too.
The other symbol that matters is the Fireball, which can appear on any spin. Fireballs don’t pay as line symbols at all – they exist to feed the feature, and everything they touch collects upward into the four eggs sitting above the reel frame. Each colour has its own egg, and each egg guards its own upgrade.
Area Link Dragon Bonus Features
Whenever one or more Fireball symbols appear, there’s a chance for the Area Link feature to trigger. Each Fireball collects into the egg of the same colour above the reels, and the combination of Fireballs that collect determines which Dragon Upgrades the round runs with. The animation doesn’t influence triggering – it’s the symbols that land, not the show around them.
The round itself is a respin collector. Three respins are awarded, and every Yellow Fireball that lands locks in place and resets the remaining respins back to three. Yellow Fireball prize values are based on the total bet, and each one carries a cash prize or a jackpot.
All locked prizes pay out at the end of the round. The feature ends when the respins run out or every position fills, and filling the entire grid with Fireballs awards the GRAND prize on top. The bet multiplier stays the same as the spin that triggered the round, so the prizes you’re locking scale with your stake.
Green Dragon Upgrade
Collecting a Green Fireball brings a multiplier into the round. Every spin awards a random multiplier of 2, 3 or 5, and each Yellow Fireball is multiplied once, when it first locks into place. It’s the simplest upgrade and the one that quietly does the most work.
Purple Dragon Upgrade
The Purple Fireball awards a second, independent Area Link array. Both grids play out at the same time, each with its own respins and its own Fireballs. The round only ends when each array has either completed its spins or filled completely. Two boards, one trigger.
Red Dragon Upgrade
Red Fireballs appear during the feature and sweep the board: they award an instant collect of all Yellow Fireballs. Once that collect resolves, a new Yellow Fireball is created in the Red symbol’s place, so the grid doesn’t lose a position. Sweep, then rebuild.
Blue Dragon Upgrade
Blue Fireballs add their value to a random number of Yellow Fireballs, and a single Blue can pump the same Yellow more than once. After the Blue feature completes, a Yellow Fireball is created in its place. Where Red sweeps, Blue stacks.
Stacking Upgrades
More than one Fireball colour can collect on a single base spin, and each pairing has its own defined resolution:
- Green + Purple – the multiplier applies to all new Yellow Fireballs on both arrays
- Green + Red – the multiplier applies to the Yellow Fireball created after the Red feature
- Green + Blue – the multiplier applies before the Blue feature
- Red + Purple – Red Fireballs only collect values within their own array
- Red + Blue – all Blue features occur before any Red features
- Blue + Purple – Blue Fireballs only add to Yellow Fireballs within their own array
The order matters as much as the pairing. Blue features always resolve before Red ones, so Blue gets to fatten the Yellows before Red comes through and collects them. Green’s multiplier lands before Blue’s feature too, which means a Green plus Blue round can multiply a value that Blue then spreads across the board.
Six pairings, each with a fixed rule, is what gives a loaded round its depth. A board carrying Green and Blue together plays out differently from one carrying Red and Purple, and knowing the difference is rewarded rather than incidental.
Our Honest Verdict
Overall Rating: 7.5/10
This is a game about one round. The line pays are thin – five Chests pay 5x – so the spins in between exist to land Fireballs and little else. The Area Link round is where the money and the interest live.
The upgrade pairings give it genuine depth. Six defined combinations means a loaded board rewards knowing what Red and Blue do together, which most respin collectors never attempt. Area Link Dragon inherits that learnability from Area Link Bank Blast.
Everything else about the round is built to be read, and a full grid of multiplied Fireballs is a properly tense thing to watch fill. It suits players who enjoy watching a grid fill and getting better at a mechanic, and it won’t carry anyone who needs the spins themselves to pay their way. There’s a real hoard under this storm sky. It just takes a while to hatch.
