Area Link Bank Boss Slot Review
A vault of piled gold, a teal wall glowing with scrollwork, and five fat piggy banks grinning above the reels while a golden boss pig in a top hat and monocle watches from his own heap of coins. The pigs are the whole point. This is a game where the reels barely pay and know it: almost everything they produce gets fed upward, and the slot you actually came for sits above the frame.
Area Link Bank Boss is AreaVegas Games taking that idea to its logical end, a high volatility collector on a 5×3 grid with 20 fixed paylines, 96.50% RTP and a hit rate of 28.64%. Stakes run from 0.20 to 50.00. It lines up alongside Area Link Bank Baron, Area Link Vegas and Area Link Wolf Unleashed in the studio’s vault-flavoured line, and whether the pigs earn their keep is the question worth answering.
Base Game & Features
This is a straightforward five reel, three row slot. Wins pay left to right across 20 fixed paylines, and only the highest combination counts on each line. Total bet is divided by a payline cost of 20, so line wins are calculated against the initial bet rather than the full stake.
If multiple winning combinations land on a single payline, only the highest of them pays. The total payout for a spin is the sum of every payline win. None of that will surprise anyone, but the initial-bet quirk is worth knowing when you read the paytable.
The paytable is a money theme all the way down, with values as multiples of the line bet:
- Diamond: 5x for five, 1x for four, 0.5x for three
- Gold Bars / Cash Stack: 2.5x for five, 0.5x for four, 0.25x for three
- Coin Stack / Green Ring: 2x for five, 0.5x for four, 0.25x for three
- A, K, Q, J, 10, 9: 1x for five, 0.25x for four, 0.1x for three
The wild is a Dollar Sign that substitutes for everything except coins, can stack on the reels, and forms its own winning combinations. That’s its whole job. The line pays are small and the real money sits above the frame, in the pigs.
Area Link Bank Boss Bonus Features
The Area Link Feature
Coins on the reels can set the whole thing off. Any spin that shows one or more Coins carries a chance of triggering Area Link, and each visible Coin collects into the pig of the same colour sitting above the reels. The mix of colours collected is what decides your Piggy Bank Upgrades.
The feature itself is a respin round. Three respins are awarded, all Coin symbols are held for the duration, and every new Coin resets the remaining respins back to three. Each Coin carries a cash prize or a jackpot, all paid at the end.
Two things end it: the respins running out, or every position filling. Fill every position and you’re also awarded the GRAND jackpot, on top of every prize already on the board. That full-board outcome is what the resets are quietly building towards.
The Five Piggy Bank Upgrades
Each coloured pig carries its own upgrade, and the coin colours you collect decide which ones are in play:
- Pink (Boost): Pink Coins appear, and every landed Pink Coin has its prize boosted by a random amount on every spin
- Green (Collect All): Green Coins instantly collect all new credit prizes and jackpots, then leave a Gold Coin behind
- Purple (Double Array): a second, independent Area Link array is awarded, and both play out separately
- Red (Multiplier): a random 2x, 3x or 5x multiplier is awarded every spin, applied once when Gold Coins first stick
- Blue (Blast): Blue Coin values are added to a random number of Gold Coins, and the same Gold Coin can receive the same Blue Coin feature more than once
How the Upgrades Combine
Every pairing has a written rule. Red with Purple applies the multiplier to new Gold Coins on both arrays. Red with Green multiplies the Gold Coin created after the Green collect. Red with Blue multiplies before the Blue feature resolves, and Red with Pink premultiplies the boosted prize.
The collects respect boundaries too. Green and Blue features only act within their own array when Purple is running, and all Blue features resolve before any Green collect. It’s a system with no ambiguity in it, which matters when several upgrades land together on a single base spin.
The Bank Boss Feature
The Bank Boss is the headline addition. Boss Coins behave like their coloured cousins, feeding the big pig on the right, and any spin showing one or more of them carries a chance of the feature firing. When it does, an Area Link round starts with a random set of Piggy Bank Upgrades attached, no colour collection required.
It’s the shortcut to the game’s richest configuration, and landing it is the moment the whole build has been pointing at. A random handful of upgrades, applied at once, can produce a round no amount of coin-collecting would have assembled.
Our Honest Verdict
Overall Rating: 7.7/10
Playing this is feeding pigs. The reels tick over on small line pays and stacked wilds, the coins drift upward, and the session lives or dies in the respin round. That’s the reason to sit down with it: one triggered feature can arrive carrying five upgrades at once, and no two rounds play out the same way.
The Bank Boss route is the best thing here, because the upgrades aren’t left to chance when they collide. Every pairing has a rule, so a doubled array running a multiplier and a collect behaves the way the rules say it will, round after round. The problem is that the game never tells you what’s at the top. No win ceiling is printed anywhere, and collecting towards a number it won’t name is a lot to ask of a high volatility slot.
Collectors will be happy here, and so will anyone who enjoys learning a mechanic’s combinations. If you need the spins themselves to pay, or a stated target before you commit a bankroll, this vault isn’t for you. For everyone else, the boss pig’s hoard is real, and it does eventually come down.
