Area Link Phoenix Slot Review
Most of Area Link Phoenix doesn’t matter, and the game knows it. The reels, the paylines, the line pays: they’re the waiting room. The real game sits on the ledge above the reels, where three coloured orbs collect Fireballs in a burning temple, waiting to decide which version of the bonus round you’ve earned.
It’s an AreaVegas Games release, part of the same collect-and-upgrade family that produced Area Link Dragon and Area Link Luck. The maths runs at 96.45% RTP with medium volatility, on a 5×3 grid with 20 fixed paylines, and bets from 0.20 to 50.00 per spin. Fireballs and coloured eggs carry everything that matters here.
Base Game & Features
The base game is a conventional five-reel setup. A payline is a pattern of adjacent positions running across the reels, wins run left to right from the first reel, and the 20 lines are fixed so every spin plays all of them. If more than one winning combination lands on a single line, only the highest one pays, and wins from all lines are summed to give the spin’s total.
Betting works on a simple split. The total bet is the initial bet multiplied by the 20-line cost, and payline wins are paid against that initial bet rather than the total. Payouts scale cleanly with whatever stake you’ve set, from 0.20 up to 50.00 per spin, and the paytable shows each symbol combination’s payout at your current bet.
Phoenix symbols are Wild. They substitute for everything except Fireball symbols, and they can form winning combinations of their own.
The Fireballs are what the base game is actually for. Whenever one or more appear, there’s a chance the main feature triggers, and each Fireball collects to the egg of the same colour sitting above the reels. Yellow, orange, magenta and red all feed different eggs. The combination of Fireballs that collect when the feature fires determines which Phoenix Upgrades you’re awarded, and the collecting animation doesn’t influence triggering in any way.
There are three upgrades, each tied to a specific egg:
- Orange egg – awards random multipliers on every spin of the feature
- Magenta egg – awards a second, independent feature array
- Red egg – brings Red Fireballs that instantly collect locked prizes
Wins in the base game are line pays, and there’s a jackpot ladder riding above everything. Four prizes sit on it, quoted here at a total bet of 2.00:
- GRAND – 10,000.00 at a 2.00 bet
- MAJOR – 1,000.00 at a 2.00 bet
- MINOR – 40.00 at a 2.00 bet
- MINI – 20.00 at a 2.00 bet
Because every prize on the ladder is based on the total bet, those figures scale directly with your stake. The game itself trumpets wins over 5,000x, and the GRAND is the prize that gets you there.
Area Link Phoenix Bonus Features
When Area Link triggers, the round plays out as a respin collector. The sequence runs like this:
- Yellow Fireball symbols lock in place and three respins are awarded
- Each additional Yellow Fireball that lands also locks and resets the remaining respins back to three
- Each Yellow Fireball carries a cash prize or one of the MINI, MINOR or MAJOR jackpots, based on the total bet
- The round ends when the respins run out or every position fills with Fireballs
- All locked prizes pay out at the end, and a full grid awards the GRAND on top of everything already locked
That final step is the one to watch. A grid that’s nearly full has every locked prize doubled in meaning: it pays as-is if the respins die, or it pays everything plus the GRAND if one more Fireball squeezes in. The bet multiplier stays the same as the game that triggered the feature, so nothing changes mid-round.
Orange Phoenix Upgrade
If the orange egg triggers the feature, every spin awards a random multiplier of 2, 3 or 5. Each Yellow Fireball is multiplied once, when it first locks into place, so the timing of a Fireball’s arrival matters as much as its value. A prize that locks early under a 5x multiplier is worth five times what the same prize would have been on an unupgraded round. The multiplier is decided spin by spin rather than set for the whole feature, which means a full grid is built from Fireballs locked at different rates.
Magenta Phoenix Upgrade
The magenta egg awards a second, independent feature array. Both play out side by side with three respins each, and the round only ends when each array has either filled its positions or run out of spins. One array can finish while the other is still going. Effectively two rounds for one trigger, with two separate chances to fill a grid and claim the GRAND.
Red Phoenix Upgrade
The red egg brings Red Fireballs into the feature. A Red Fireball instantly collects all new credit prizes and jackpots when it lands, then converts into a Yellow Fireball once its own feature completes. It’s the round’s sweeper: a busy board with several prizes locked can be emptied in one hit, with the Red Fireball standing in afterwards as a fresh Yellow one.
Multiple Phoenix Upgrades
All upgrades can fire together on a single base spin, and each pairing resolves a defined way:
- Orange with Magenta: the multiplier applies to new Yellow Fireballs on both arrays
- Orange with Red: the multiplier applies to the Yellow Fireball created after the Red Fireball collects
- Red with Magenta: each Red Fireball only collects values within its own array
Because every combination has a fixed resolution, a loaded board is something you can genuinely get better at reading. Few respin collectors bother with that kind of layering, and it’s the most interesting thing in the game.
Our Honest Verdict
Overall Rating: 7.7/10
Sitting down at this temple is really sitting down to one round. The spins in between are small line pays and Fireballs drifting into position, and the reason to be here is a loaded feature board with two or three upgrades on it at once. Under the fire, that’s the whole session.
The upgrade pairings are the best part. Every combination resolves a defined way, so a stacked round is something you can genuinely get better at reading, and few respin collectors offer that. The tension of a near-full grid, one Fireball from the GRAND, does the rest.
What counts against it is the money between features. The line pays are far too thin to hold a session together on their own, so the waits can feel long even with medium volatility. This one belongs to players who enjoy watching a grid fill and learning a mechanic inside out, not to anyone who needs the spins themselves to pay. The patient ones will find the fire worth tending.
Area Link Phoenix FAQs
-
How do you trigger the Area Link feature in Area Link Phoenix?
Whenever one or more Fireball symbols appear, there is a chance the Area Link feature triggers. Each Fireball collects to the egg of the same colour above the reels, and the combination of Fireballs that collected determines which Phoenix Upgrades are awarded when the feature fires. The collecting animation doesn’t influence triggering in any way. -
What does the Red Phoenix Upgrade do?
Red Fireballs appear during the feature and instantly collect all new credit prizes and jackpots when they land. After the Red Fireball feature completes, a Yellow Fireball is created in its place. -
Can the Area Link feature retrigger?
Yes, within the round itself. Any additional Yellow Fireball symbols that land lock in place and reset the remaining respins back to three, and the feature only ends when the respins run out or every position is filled. -
What does the Magenta Phoenix Upgrade do?
It awards a second, independent Area Link feature array with three respins per set. Each array plays out independently of the other, and the feature ends when each array has either completed all its spins or filled all its positions. That gives you two separate chances to fill a grid and win the GRAND. -
What is the top prize in Area Link Phoenix?
The GRAND is the top prize, worth 10,000.00 at a total bet of 2.00, which is 5,000x the bet. It is awarded when every position in the feature fills with Fireball symbols. The MAJOR, MINOR and MINI sit below it on the same ladder. -
What is the RTP of Area Link Phoenix?
The RTP is 96.45%. That is the total expected return, and it doesn’t change. -

No. Area Link Phoenix is a medium volatility slot, with a hit frequency of 28.68%. -
What is the minimum and maximum bet on Area Link Phoenix?
Bets run from 0.20 to 50.00 per spin, across 20 fixed paylines on a 5×3 grid. -
Does the Phoenix Wild substitute for Fireball symbols?
No. Phoenix symbols are Wild and substitute for all symbols except Fireball symbols. They can also form their own winning combinations on a payline. -
Who makes Area Link Phoenix?
Area Link Phoenix is made by AreaVegas Games, the studio behind the Area Link, Area BuildR and Area Surge families.
