Bonanza Rush Express Slot Review
A gem mine carved into a red-rock canyon, caught at golden hour. Three gold-plated carts trundle along a rail above the reels, heaped with green, violet and pink crystals that spill over the rims, while a brass locomotive idles at the edge of the screen with its lantern lit.
Bonanza Rush Express hides nearly all of its payout behind one reel. However many prizes gather across reels 1 to 4, none of them are worth a thing until a Bell or Gold Train lands on reel five, and the sunset canyon above is essentially decoration for that single decision. The wait is the game, and it’s a better wait than it sounds.
AreaVegas Games built this one, and it’s a formula their catalogue keeps returning to; Bigger Bonanza Rush Express, Diamond Rush Express and Bass Rush Express all run on the same collecting rhythm. This one is a 5×4 grid with 20 fixed paylines, 96.50% RTP, high volatility, and stakes from 0.20 to 50.00 a spin.
Base Game & Features
Wins run left to right across the 20 fixed paylines, and only the highest combination on each line pays. Line wins are calculated against the initial bet, which is the total stake divided by 20. It’s a conventional setup; the interest lives entirely in the symbols sitting on top of it.
The paytable leans hard on the premium end and thins out quickly below it. Values per symbol, as multiples of the line bet:
- Gold Bars – 5x for five, 1x for four, 0.5x for three
- Gem Sack (rainbow bag) – 2.5x for five, 0.5x for four, 0.25x for three
- Gem Bucket – 2.5x for five, 0.5x for four, 0.25x for three
- Pickaxe Bucket – 2x for five, 0.5x for four, 0.25x for three
- Lantern – 2x for five, 0.5x for four, 0.25x for three
- A, K, Q, J and 10 – 1x for five, 0.25x for four, 0.1x for three
The gap between tiers is steep. Five Gold Bars pays five times the line bet; five royals pays one. And because the initial bet is a twentieth of the total stake, even the top symbol’s 5x is a modest line win in terms of the spin cost. The line game isn’t what anyone’s here for.
The Bonanza Rush Express logo is the wild, stacked across all reels, substituting for everything except the Gems, the Rush Express trains, the Diamond Multipliers, the Bell and the Gold Train. It can’t help build the prizes that actually matter, only the line wins that keep the balance ticking over.
Rush Express Symbols
Rush Express trains land on reels 1 to 4 only. They carry no fixed value; when the feature fires, each train runs a mini feature of its own colour, with every car collecting a cash prize towards that symbol’s total.
A train’s worth is never settled until its final car clears, and two identical-looking spins can resolve very differently. What that last car might do is listed with the feature below.
Rush Express Feature
The trigger needs two things at once: a Bell or Gold Train on reel five, and at least one Rush Express symbol anywhere on the same spin. Neither does anything alone. When they line up, reel five decides how the board pays out, and the two collectors work differently:
- Bell symbol – awards all Rush Express symbol prizes on screen, once
- Gold Train symbol – collects all on-screen Rush Express prizes to the train above the reels, then awards that total up to 10 times
- Rush Express symbol – appears on reels 1 to 4 only; each one runs its own coloured train mini feature when triggered
- Final car – can award a 2x or 3x multiplier, or the corresponding coloured jackpot
The Gold Train is the better catch by some distance. Its repeat multiplies whatever the whole board has gathered, not a single symbol, so a full set of trains underneath it is what the feature is really built around.
Bonanza Rush Express Free Spins & Gem Upgrades
Free Spins
One or more Gem symbols landing anywhere gives a chance at 10 free spins. Bets and lines stay as they were on the triggering spin, and the Rush Express feature comes round more often inside the round than it does in the base game.
There is no retrigger. Ten spins is the whole round, whatever lands. What shapes it instead is the combination of Gems collected on the trigger, which decides which of three upgrades are active from the first spin:
- Green Gem – a Bell or Gold Train is guaranteed to land on every free spin
- Purple Gem – all Bell symbols are upgraded to Gold Train symbols
- Pink Gem – 2x, 3x and 5x Diamond Multiplier symbols are added to reels 1 to 4
Green Gem Upgrade
With the reel five requirement permanently satisfied, the feature can’t fail to trigger. The round becomes a string of collections rather than a wait for one, and every spin resolves the board sitting on it.
Purple Gem Upgrade
The Purple Gem upgrades every Bell into a Gold Train. The one-shot payout disappears from reel five, and every trigger runs its total through the repeat mechanic instead. Stacked with Green, the two make the round behave like a different game.
Pink Gem Upgrade
The Pink Gem adds Diamond Multiplier symbols to the free spin reels. These apply to the total of all on-screen prizes whenever the Rush Express feature triggers, so they stack on top of whatever the trains and the Gold Train are already doing. All three upgrades at once is the round this game was designed around.
One note on the ceiling: the coloured jackpots and the Gold Train’s 10-times repeat are the top end.
Our Honest Verdict
Overall Rating: 7/10
Sitting here is a lot like standing at a mine-shaft entrance watching an empty rail line. The reels turn, small wins come and go, and the whole session hangs on whether that locomotive at the canyon’s edge decides to move. That suspense is exactly why anyone picks this over a dozen other gem-and-gold slots: every board you build is unresolved until the last second, and no two resolutions land the same way.
What AreaVegas got right is the Gold Train. A collector that pays the board’s total back up to 10 times turns even a scrappy set of trains into something worth watching, and it’s the reason a modest spin can finish strong. The flaw is just as clear: ten free spins with no retrigger, so a round that’s warming up simply ends mid-sentence.
Collectors and patient builders will get plenty out of this canyon. The paytable alone is modest, so the value sits in the collection and jackpot features, and waiting for them can feel like paying a toll. For the right player, that lantern-lit train is still worth standing around for.
