Area Surge Molten Money

Area Surge Molten Money Slot Review

A volcano fills the right-hand edge of the screen in Area Surge Molten Money, its cracked slopes threaded with glowing molten seams beneath a heap of sunset storm clouds. Everything this slot pays is controlled by that one mountain: the 20 paylines are close to decorative, because the real game is the prize ladder above the reels, and the volcano alone decides when it moves.

It comes from AreaVegas Games, whose Area Link Wolf, Area Link Phoenix Firestorm and Area Build’R Wildfire cover similar ground. It’s a 5×4 grid with 20 fixed paylines, running at 96.50% RTP with high volatility and a hit frequency of 34.26%. Stakes run from 0.20 to 50.00 per spin. It’s the jackpot fireballs and the upgraded prize ladder that drive the biggest wins, so that’s where the payouts can climb highest.

Base Game & Features

The reels sit in a dark-red frame against the lava plain, and the symbol set carries the theme: a cheetah, an alligator and tropical flowers share the grid with the A, K, Q and J royals. Wins run left to right across the 20 paylines. Only the highest combination counts when several land on the same line.

Payouts are based on the initial bet, which is the total bet divided by the payline cost of 20. A payline is a pattern of adjacent symbol positions running in a line across the reels. The payout value is based on the winning combination formed.

If multiple winning combinations land on a single payline, only the highest is awarded, and only the highest combination is paid per symbol combination. The total payout for a spin is the sum of all payline wins. The paytable scales with the current bet, so the values you see reflect what you’re staking.

Wild symbols substitute for everything except the Bonus, Prize and Flaming Volcano symbols, and they can form their own winning combinations on a payline. Above the reels sit two persistent icons, Instant Collect and Multiply Cash Prizes, alongside the Area Surge prize values themselves. That ladder is where the game actually lives.

Cash Upgrade Feature

The Flaming Volcano symbol lands on reel 5 only, and every time it does, the next spin triggers a Cash Upgrade. This randomly upgrades the Area Surge prizes displayed above the reels – seven of them per upgrade in the base game.

Each subsequent upgrade stacks further on top, so the ladder keeps climbing until a Cash Collect feature pays it out. Then everything resets and the build starts again. The upgrades are random in both timing and which prizes they boost, so two sessions at the same spin count can be carrying very different ladders.

Cash Collect Feature

Prize symbols land on reels 1 through 4. When a Flaming Volcano lands on reel 5 on the same spin as at least one Prize symbol, the Cash Collect feature triggers and the volcano erupts across the grid.

• Gold Fireballs award one of the values shown above the reels
• Coloured Fireballs award multiple values and carry a chance at the jackpot of the matching colour
• Every Area Surge prize resets once the feature has paid out

The timing of the collect is the whole game. Trigger it early and you’re collecting a thin ladder; hold off through several upgrades and the fireballs can get expensive.

You don’t control when it lands – the volcano does – which makes each reel-5 hit a small decision the game makes for you. The one thing you can rely on is the reset afterwards: whatever the collect pays, the ladder goes back to zero and the climb begins again.

Pick Feature

At the end of any base game spin, Prize symbols can randomly trigger the Pick Feature. Match three icons to win the corresponding prize.

It can’t fire from inside Free Spins, and it can’t trigger after a spin that produced a Free Spins or Cash Collect result. That makes it strictly a base-game interlude rather than a feature that compounds with anything else.

There’s an autoplay option for it that selects icons automatically, which doesn’t change the outcome. Selections are cosmetic; the prize behind the matched set is what it is either way.

Controls and Play Options

The usual controls are all here. The spin button starts a reel spin, and a click or tap on the reels stops it early – neither influences the result, and neither does the stop button or the spacebar. Quickspin resolves spins faster without changing outcomes.

Autoplay is base game only. It plays a chosen number of spins at the current bet, and you can cap the session with a loss limit or a single-win limit before you start. Both bring the session to an end automatically when tripped.

Area Surge Molten Money Free Spins & Bonus Features

Free Spins

Bonus symbols appear on reels 1, 3 and 5 in the base game, and landing all three awards 10 Free Spins. Bets and lines stay the same as the triggering spin. What changes is how the prize ladder behaves, and the difference is the point of the round.

• Base game Area Surge prize upgrades do not carry over – Free Spins start from scratch
• A Cash Upgrade occurs at the start of the round, so the ladder is never empty
• Cash Upgrades now upgrade 10 prizes instead of 7
• Prize upgrades are not reset by a Cash Collect during the round
• Every Cash Upgrade also awards +1 Free Spin

That combination – fatter upgrades, no resets, and spins that regenerate themselves – is what makes the bonus round worth reaching. A collect inside Free Spins gathers a ladder a base-game collect can’t match, and the round keeps growing for as long as the volcano keeps landing on reel 5.

Our Honest Verdict

Overall Rating: 7.2/10

This is a waiting game wearing a volcano’s clothes, and it’s a better waiting game than most. You spin, the ladder grows, and the mountain holds the money until it feels like letting go. That slow accumulation with no idea when the collect will land is exactly why somebody picks this over a paylines-first slot.

The Free Spins round is the best thing here: the ladder never resets inside it and every upgrade buys another spin, so a good round builds real momentum. The Pick Feature is the weak spot – it pays from the same ladder, can’t combine with anything, and mostly interrupts the build it should be helping.

It’s high volatility, and the base game can go quiet for long stretches between eruptions. This one’s for players who enjoy the long climb and one big payoff, not for anyone who wants regular wins to keep a session ticking. If you can wait out the mountain, the molten money eventually flows.
