New Year Rush Express Slot Review
On a rooftop terrace at dusk, with champagne coupes stacked into a tower and a city skyline glowing under a purple sky, New Year Rush Express makes one argument worth having: that a slot’s final reel deserves more drama than the other four combined. This is a game where the first four reels display prizes and the fifth decides whether they mean anything, and from AreaVegas Games, that’s the whole point of the evening.
The game runs on a 5×4 grid with 20 fixed paylines, a 96.45% RTP and medium-high volatility, with a top prize of 5,000x the bet. It’s the newest in a long line of Rush Express titles – we covered Gold Rush Express in 2026, and Diamond Christmas Rush Express after it – and the family resemblance is strong. Stakes run from 0.20 to 50.00 per spin.
By midnight, this terrace either pays out or keeps you waiting for the countdown.
Symbols, Paylines and the Stacked Wild
Wins pay left to right across the 20 fixed paylines, starting from the first reel, and only the highest combination counts on each line. If two winning combinations land on the same line, the better one is the one that’s paid. The fixed line count means every spin covers the full grid, and a spin’s total payout is simply the sum of every winning line.
Symbol pays are printed as currency values in the paytable, and the game states that payline win payouts are based on the initial bet – the total bet divided by the payline cost of 20. No bet figure was visible on the paytable screens, so those printed values can’t be restated as multipliers here. The roster is dressed for the occasion, and it’s a short one:
- Clock – three pays 1.00, four pays 2.00, five pays 10.00
- VIP ticket and Bow tie – three pays 0.50, four pays 1.00, five pays 5.00
- Party horn and Drink – three pays 0.50, four pays 1.00, five pays 4.00
- Rush Express Wild – three pays 2.00, four pays 4.00, five pays 20.00
There’s a clear split in that table. The Clock sits on its own at the top of the regular pays, while the VIP ticket, bow tie, party horn and drink pair off at identical values, so four of the six regular symbols are effectively interchangeable. Nothing else comes close to it for five.
The Rush Express Wild is stacked on all reels and substitutes for everything except the Bonus, Rush Express, Bell and Gold Firework symbols, so it can carry a line on its own. It appears in the base game and free spins only. At 20x for five, it out-pays every regular symbol on the table.
Because it’s stacked, a full reel of wilds can arrive at once, and when that happens on the first reels the left-to-right pay structure does the rest.
The Rush Express Feature
This is the engine of the game. Rush Express symbols land on reels 1 to 4 only, carrying prize values based on the total bet. They do nothing on their own – they sit on the reels and wait for reel 5 to make its ruling.
Two symbols live on reel 5 and decide what those prizes are worth:
- Bell – when it lands with at least one Rush Express symbol on the same spin, every Rush Express prize on screen is paid immediately
- Gold Firework – collects every Rush Express prize on screen and pays the total up to 10 times over
The difference between the two is scale. A Bell settles what’s on screen at face value; a Gold Firework sweeps the same prizes into the firework meter below the reels and repeats the payout. That’s where a screen full of Rush Express symbols stops being a collection of small numbers and starts being a serious win.
The more Rush Express symbols that land before the collector arrives, the harder that repeated total works.
When the feature triggers, each Rush Express Firework symbol runs a mini feature to settle its value. The colour of the firework matches the triggering symbol, and each coloured firework collects a cash prize or a jackpot. The final firework in the sequence is the one to watch: it can award a cash prize, a 2x or 3x multiplier, or the coloured jackpot that matches the firework. Prize values are based on the total bet, so everything the feature pays scales with stake.
Free Spins
Three Bonus symbols – the disco balls – on reels 1, 3 and 5 award 10 free spins. Those are the only reels the Bonus symbol appears on in the base game, so all three have to show up together on a single spin. Bets and lines stay exactly as they were on the triggering spin.
The draw is simple: the Rush Express feature fires more often inside the round, so the collector symbols that drive the game get more chances to work. What the round doesn’t do is extend itself. Retrigger is not possible, so 10 spins is all you get, and the Pick feature can’t start from within free spins either.
The Pick Feature and the Jackpot Ladder
Prize symbols can set the Pick feature off at random, but only in one narrow window: the end of a base game spin that produced neither free spins nor a Rush Express hit. It’s a match-three game – pick icons until three match, and the matching set pays its jackpot. The animation doesn’t influence the trigger, and an autoplay option can select the icons for you without changing the result.
Four fixed jackpots sit above the reels, and they’re tied to stake rather than to a rising meter:
- GRAND – 5,000x the bet
- MAJOR – 500x the bet
- MINOR – 50x the bet
- MINI – 20x the bet
Those multiples hold at any stake, which makes the GRAND the same figure as the game’s top prize. The ladder is flat rather than progressive, so there’s nothing growing in the background while you play. Note also that the coloured firework in the Rush Express mini feature can pay the matching jackpot, which means the ladder is reachable from two directions rather than one.
Our Honest Verdict
Overall Rating: 7/10
An evening here is spent watching prizes land and hoping the last reel agrees with them. That’s the whole appeal, and it’s a real one: the Gold Firework’s 10-times repeat is the best moment on this rooftop, because it takes a screen of modest numbers and pays it like it means it.
The weakness is everything between those moments. The paylines are garnish, ten unextendable free spins is a stingy round for a game built on accumulation, and the three features are fenced off from each other so carefully they almost never combine.
It’s one for the patient, meter-watching kind of player who enjoys a slow build to a single loud finish. Anyone who wants their wins steady and their bonus rounds long will find the party over too soon – but the countdown crowd get a New Year’s Eve that pays for the waiting.
