Area Surge Piggy Vault Slot Review
A family of glossy ceramic pigs sits on drifts of cash beneath a huge riveted vault door, and Area Surge Piggy Vault doesn’t pretend that money is incidental – it’s the entire game. The reels themselves are close to decoration: a five-of-a-kind of the best symbol returns 2.5x the bet, and everything worth winning is stacked on a ladder above the reels that the spinning exists to feed.
From AreaVegas Games, it runs on a 5×4 grid with 20 fixed paylines, at 96.50% RTP and high volatility, with stakes from 0.20 to 50.00. The studio’s piggy vault habit is well established; Piggy Vault Bonanza Rush Express and the Area Link Bank Boss and Bank Baron titles cover similar ground.
But the reels almost don’t matter here. The real game happens on a prize ladder above them, and everything on the grid feeds it.
Base Game & Features
Five reels, four rows, 20 fixed paylines, wins running left to right from the first reel. Wild symbols substitute for everything except Bonus, Prize and Gold Case symbols, and they can form their own winning lines.
Line wins are modest and the game knows it. The paytable, per symbol, as multiples of the total bet:
- Diamond – 3 pays 0.25x, 4 pays 0.5x, 5 pays 2.5x
- Gold Bar – 3 pays 0.25x, 4 pays 0.5x, 5 pays 2.5x
- Cash/Money Stack – 3 pays 0.25x, 4 pays 0.5x, 5 pays 2x
- Coins – 3 pays 0.25x, 4 pays 0.5x, 5 pays 2x
- Ring – 3 pays 0.25x, 4 pays 0.5x, 5 pays 2x
- A – 3 pays 0.1x, 4 pays 0.25x, 5 pays 1x
- K – 3 pays 0.1x, 4 pays 0.25x, 5 pays 1x
- Q – 3 pays 0.1x, 4 pays 0.25x, 5 pays 1x
- J – 3 pays 0.1x, 4 pays 0.25x, 5 pays 1x
- 10 – 3 pays 0.1x, 4 pays 0.25x, 5 pays 1x
The total stake divides across the 20 paylines. If multiple winning combinations land on a single payline, only the highest pays, and only the highest combination counts per symbol. The royal five-of-a-kind at 1x the bet tells you where the money isn’t: it’s in the ladder above the reels.
A payline, for the record, is a pattern of adjacent positions running across the reels, and the total payout of a spin is the sum of every winning line. None of it is complicated; it’s just not where this game pays.
Four symbols exist outside the paytable entirely, and each one drives a feature. What triggers what:
- Wild – substitutes for all symbols except Bonus, Prize and Gold Case
- Gold Case (reel 5 only) – triggers a Cash Upgrade on the next spin
- Gold Case + Prize symbol (same spin) – triggers the Cash Collect feature
- Prize symbols (reels 1 to 4) – can randomly trigger the Pick Feature at the end of a base game spin
- 3 Bonus symbols (reels 1, 3 and 5) – award 10 Free Spins
Cash Upgrade Feature
The Gold Case symbol appears on reel 5 only, and every time it lands, the next spin triggers a Cash Upgrade. The case opens with a Surge symbol and randomly upgrades the Area Surge prizes sitting above the reels.
Seven prizes get upgraded in the base game. Each subsequent Cash Upgrade pushes the prizes higher still, and the stacking continues until a Cash Collect feature pays out and resets everything. The sequence matters: a Gold Case landing on a spin that also carries a Prize symbol goes straight to the collect rather than the upgrade.
Cash Collect Feature
Cash Collect is the payday. It triggers when a Gold Case lands on reel 5 and at least one Prize symbol lands on the same spin, with Prize symbols restricted to reels 1 to 4.
When it hits, Coin symbols award one of the values shown above the reels, and Coloured Case symbols award multiple values plus a chance at the jackpot of the matching colour, including the MINI and MAJOR tiers. Once the collect resolves, all the upgraded prizes reset and the climb starts again.
The reset is the design’s pivot. Every upgrade you’ve banked vanishes the moment a collect pays, which makes the timing of a Gold Case landing a genuine tension: land it alone and the ladder grows, land it with a Prize symbol and you cash out but start over.
Pick Feature
At the end of any base game spin, Prize symbols can randomly trigger a Pick Feature. Match three icons to win the corresponding prize. Simple enough.
The restrictions matter more than the feature itself: it can’t trigger after a spin that awarded Free Spins or Cash Collect, and it never triggers inside Free Spins. It’s a consolation prize for spins that didn’t build into anything bigger.
One quirk worth knowing: an autoplay option exists for the Pick Feature that selects icons automatically, and like every stop and speed control in the game, it doesn’t influence the results. The picks are cosmetic; the outcome is settled before you tap.
Area Surge Piggy Vault Free Spins & Bonus Features
The bonus round keeps the same bet and lines as the triggering spin. That’s the plain part.
The interesting part is how the ladder behaves. Base game upgrades don’t carry over; Free Spins start from zero, and a Cash Upgrade fires at the start of the round to get things moving. Ten prizes get upgraded per Cash Upgrade here, against seven in the base game.
Better still, upgrades aren’t reset by a Cash Collect during the round. In the base game a collect wipes the ladder; in Free Spins it pays out and the upgrades keep climbing. And every Cash Upgrade awards an extra free spin, so a round that keeps landing Gold Cases keeps extending itself.
Put together, a single good round can chain several collects without losing altitude, which is something the base game never allows. The gap between the two modes is the entire incentive to chase the Bonus symbols.
With high volatility and a 34.26% hit frequency, the base game’s job is to keep you fed in small change while reel 5 decides when the real game starts. That’s the whole design in one line: the base game builds and resets, the bonus round builds and stays built.
Our Honest Verdict
Overall Rating: 7.2/10
This is a slot you play for the climb. You feed the piggy bank spin after spin, watch the numbers above the reels tick upward, and the moment of truth is always the same one: does reel 5 open the vault or just add to the pile. That visible, growing meter is the reason to sit down here at all.
The bonus round is where the design gets generous. A round that can pay you, keep its upgrades, and extend itself is a genuinely satisfying loop, and it’s the only place this game rewards patience properly.
The base game is less kind. It takes the ladder away every time it pays you, and the line wins won’t paper over a quiet session. This one belongs to players who love watching a number grow; if you play for the reels themselves, the piggies will keep your money safe and never give it back.
