Black Sails Wild Seas Slot Review
Dawn on open water, a black-sailed galleon riding the swell with skull-and-crossbones flags snapping from both masts and a cannon jutting over the planks. Most pirate slots spend their money on the fleet and let the reels do nothing; Black Sails Wild Seas, from Infinity Dragon Studios, puts the ships to work, because nearly every symbol that lands here feeds a meter that remembers it.
The argument here is that this is a collection game wearing a swashbuckler’s coat: almost everything on the reels feeds a meter of some kind, and the payoff is patience rather than fireworks. It runs on a 5×4 grid with 30 fixed paylines, medium volatility and a 96.08% RTP, stakes from 0.20 to 25.00.
Its sister Black Sails: Kraken’s Hoard also rewarded long-haul progress, and fans of that build will recognise the temperament here, alongside studio stablemates like Howling Riches Power Combo and Oinkin’ Fortunes. The tides ahead are calm; the treasure isn’t guaranteed.
Base Game & Features
Wins pay left to right across 30 paylines, and the count can’t be adjusted. Wins land on 32.26% of spins, so the base game keeps ticking over without ever flooding the screen. Only the highest combination counts on each line, and the total payout is the sum of every line win.
The Gallion Wild substitutes for everything except the Free Spins and Bonus symbols. That’s the whole story on wilds until the collection systems get involved, and they get involved quickly.
Cannon Ball Collection
Every reel carries a Cannon Ball collect meter at its base. Each Cannon Ball symbol that lands adds to the meter for that reel, and collecting 4 activates the Gallion Wilds feature on it. Cannon Balls stop appearing on reels where the feature is already running, and both the meter and the feature persist per bet level.
When triggered, a Gallion Wild is added to that reel on every spin. Once the reel fills with wilds the feature ends, and they’re removed on the next spin. Free Spins and the Cutlass Battle Bonus can still trigger while it runs.
Symbol Values
Pays are multiples of the stake, and the top symbols start paying from just 2 of a kind:
-
Pirate Captain / Pirate Woman: 2 pays 0.1x, 3 pays 1x, 4 pays 2.5x, 5 pays 10x
Crossed Swords: three pays 0.6x, four pays 1.5x, five pays 4x
Bottle/Anchor: 3 pays 0.4x, 4 pays 1x, 5 pays 2.5x
A: three pays 0.3x, four pays 0.7x, five pays 2x
K / Q: from three of a kind: 0.2x, then 0.5x and 1.5x for four and five
J / 10: the bottom tier, worth 0.2x at three and topping out at 1x for five
The premium picture symbols pay at roughly double the rate of the royals, and the two pirate characters share a pay tier. Five of a kind on the captains returns 10x the stake, which is modest until the Gallion Wilds start stacking a reel.
Bonus Coins can appear attached to high and low symbols during the base game. The collection animation is purely cosmetic and doesn’t influence anything, but the coins do matter to one of the bonus rounds below.
Black Sails Wild Seas Free Spins & Cutlass Battle Bonus
Beyond the reels, every route into a bonus round runs through something you’ve banked earlier. Here’s what opens each door:
-
Free Spins: 3, 4 or 5 Scatter symbols award 5, 7 or 10 spins
Treasure Fleet Free Spins: 20 upgrade points from 2-Scatter landings convert the next trigger
Cutlass Battle Bonus Game: random trigger after collecting 1 or more Bonus Coins
Gallion Wilds: 4 Cannon Balls on any reel’s collect meter, base game only
Retriggers: Free Spins can retrigger during the round
Multiplier carry: both free-spins rounds raise their multiplier by 1x after every spin
Stacked triggers: Free Spins can fire while Gallion Wilds is still running on a reel
Free Spins
Land 3, 4 or 5 Scatter symbols to trigger 5, 7 or 10 Free Spins respectively. The round starts at a 1x multiplier that climbs by 1x after every spin, and a Wild appears on random reels during each free spin. Wilds landing on top of wilds raise that wild’s multiplier by 1x, and the round can retrigger.
Treasure Fleet Free Spins
This is the upgraded version, and it’s built for grinders. Land 2 Scatters in the base game and 1 point goes on the Treasure Fleet upgrade meter; collect 20 points and the next Free Spins trigger becomes Treasure Fleet Free Spins.
The trigger and spin count work the same way, but the round starts at a 5x multiplier instead of 1x, still climbing by 1x each spin. The upgrade meter can’t be pushed past 10x, so there’s a hard ceiling on how far the building goes.
Cutlass Battle Bonus Game
The Cutlass Battle Bonus fires at random once Bonus Coins have been collected in the base game. If Free Spins lands on the same spin as collected coins, only the Free Spins or Treasure Fleet round is awarded.
It’s a spin-to-fight round: VS symbols reveal opponents carrying bonus prizes, which fill the matching meters. Collect 3 of a kind and that prize pays out, ending the feature. The ladder runs:
-
Grand: 5,000x total bet
Major: 200x total bet
Minor: 40x total bet
Mini: 15x total bet
Feature RTP: Free Spins carries 7.52%, Treasure Fleet 13.36% and the Cutlass round 7.18% of the total return
Prize wins are multiplied by the total bet, and the Grand sits at 5,000x, which is the largest fixed number anywhere in the game. The maximum win is 10,000x the bet.
Our Honest Verdict
Overall Rating: 7.8/10
Playing this is less a raid than a long voyage: you load the cannons reel by reel, bank scatter points two at a time, and the reward for coming back is that the game remembers where you left off. That persistence is the one reason to pick it, and with a win on roughly a third of spins, the sailing in between stays busy.
The Gallion Wilds reel-fill is the cleverest thing here, because it can run underneath a free-spins trigger and stack into something much bigger than the paytable suggests. The weakness is the top end: the line pays are thin, and the best fixed number in the game is the 5,000x Grand, half the 10,000x maximum win.
This is one for builders: players who like progress that survives the session and a medium-volatility ride that won’t sink a modest bankroll in ten spins. Anyone who wants a big number to aim at will find the horizon empty. For the patient sort, though, there’s real plunder across these waters.
