Boomstick Bill Slot Review
Down a lantern-lit mine shaft, past the timber frame holding the reels and the cart of glowing nuggets parked at the bottom, Boomstick Bill is quietly deciding how long you’re going to stay. This is a slot that doesn’t actually exist in full until you’ve spun it 200 times. For the first 20 spins it’s a plain five-reeler with Wilds and a cartoon prospector, and everything that makes it interesting – the Boosters, the second Trigger reel, the guaranteed Minimum Win – is still locked behind the ladder.
It runs on a 5×3 grid with 25 fixed paylines, a 96.01% RTP and medium volatility, with stakes from 0.25 to 40.00 per spin. High Limit Studios later pushed the formula further in Boomstick Bill 2, which arrived in 2025 and added a fifth Lucky Level. Here you get the original ladder, alongside studio mates like Beef Up the Bonus and Bucket of Bass.
Base Game & Features
Wins pay left to right across the 25 fixed paylines, starting from the first reel, and only the highest combination on each line counts. If multiple winning combinations land on a single payline, just the best one pays. The total payout is the sum of all payline wins plus any Scatter wins.
Each spin costs a total bet built from an initial bet on each payline played, so the bet shown is what covers all 25 lines. The Wild lands on reels two, three, four and five, substituting for everything except Scatters, Multiplier Booster symbols, Wheel Bonus Boosters, Trigger symbols and Prize symbols. Scatters appear on reels two, three and four, and three of them trigger the free spins.
The Lucky Levels ladder is the spine of the game. Base game spins count towards each level, and each level switches on another layer. Levels stack rather than replace each other, so by 200 spins everything runs at once.
- Lucky Level 1 – after 20 base game spins, Boomstick Bill can randomly appear and add Wilds or Prize symbols to reels two to four
- Lucky Level 2 – after 50 spins, five Wheel Bonus Boosters are added to the reels
- Lucky Level 3 – after 100 spins, a Trigger symbol joins reel 1 and the Reel 1 Free Spin Multiplier activates
- Lucky Level 4 – after 200 spins, every Free Spins feature guarantees a Minimum Win between 20x and 200x the total bet
Bill himself only shows up once the first level is live, and he never appears on the outer reels. His Wilds and Prize symbols land on reels two to four, which is also where Scatters sit, so an early appearance can do double duty on a spin.
Prize symbols carry credit values between 0.8x and 200x the bet, and they feed the two collect features. They’re the currency of the whole game, sitting alongside the regular paytable symbols and paying through features rather than lines.
The first is Express Collect. It needs a Trigger symbol on reel five, or on reel one once Lucky Level 3 is active, together with Prize symbols on the other reels. The feature then awards the total of all displayed prize values for each Trigger symbol that landed, so two Triggers on a full screen of prizes pays the values twice.
The second is the Wheel Bonus. When Prize symbols appear without a Trigger, the wheel can trigger at random. It’s a base game only feature, and a spin of the wheel awards one prize from the ladder.
The ladder starts here and climbs fast at the top:
- Mega – 1250x the bet, doubling up to a 5000x maximum
- Major – 200x the bet, up to 800x
- Minor – 50x the bet, up to 200x
- Maxi – 10x the bet, up to 80x
- Mini – 5x the bet, up to 40x
Those doublings come from the Wheel Bonus Boosters, which arrive with Lucky Level 2. A Mega, Major, Minor, Maxi or Mini Booster can randomly appear on other symbols in the base game, and each one landed doubles its matching prize up to that maximum.
Boosters won’t attach to Scatters, Prize symbols, Multiplier Booster symbols or Trigger symbols, so they ride on the ordinary paying symbols instead. Boosted values are stored per bet, so a ladder you’ve built holds while you stay at the same stake. When a Wheel Bonus completes, every prize resets to its starting value, and the climb begins again.
Boomstick Bill Free Spins & Multipliers
Three Scatters anywhere on reels two, three and four award 10 free spins, with bets and lines matching the triggering spin. Three more Scatters during the round retrigger another 10, with no stated limit on retriggers. Wins during the feature are added to base game wins. The multipliers do the real work from there.
A Free Spin Multiplier meter sits on top of reel five from the start, with a second meter above reel one once Lucky Level 3 is active. The multipliers can only grow in the base game, so everything you carry into the round was built before it. In the base game, Multiplier Booster symbols can randomly land on other symbols and add 0.5x to the reel five meter, or randomly to either meter once both are live. Any meter can climb to a maximum of 10x.
Multiplier Booster symbols won’t attach to Scatters, Prize symbols, Wheel Bonus Boosters or Trigger symbols, the same exclusions the Wild works under. That keeps them on the ordinary symbols, which means every Booster that lands is a spin’s regular result plus a nudge to the meters.
Inside the free spins, those multipliers apply to Express Collect features, matched by reel. The reel one multiplier applies when the Trigger symbol lands on reel one, and the reel five multiplier when it lands on reel five. After the round ends, you pick to reset the multipliers, so a big meter is a one-round asset.
Lucky Level 4 adds a floor under the whole round. The Minimum Win starts at 20x the total bet and rises by 5x every time a Free Spin Multiplier increases, up to 200x. If the round finishes below that figure, the win is topped up to match. After each round the value resets to somewhere between 20x and 80x.
Our Honest Verdict
Overall Rating: 7.7/10
Playing Boomstick Bill feels like a shift that starts quiet and gets better the longer you stay down the shaft. That’s the one reason to pick it: no other part of the game rewards persistence this directly, and the last 100 spins are genuinely a different, richer game than the first.
The stored Wheel Bonus ladder is the best thing here. Boosted prizes that hold at your stake give the base game a target worth grinding for, and a Mega that can reach 5000x is a serious carrot. The worst thing is the front-loading: ten free spins is thin, and the multipliers that make them pay have to be earned before you even get there.
It’s for players who enjoy the long build and don’t judge a slot by its first fifty spins. Anyone after instant feature hits will find the early game bare. The nuggets are there, but they sit at the deep end of the mine.
