Reign of Fire Slot Review
A fire-haired goddess leans in from the edge of the reels, balancing a small flame on one fingertip. Reign of Fire treats the near-miss as currency: two Scatters and nothing more nudges a counter that refuses to reset, and every nudge makes the eventual payout round better. That slow build is the whole reason to sit down.
It’s High Limit Studios building a game around patience, and it runs on a 5×3 grid with 20 fixed paylines, at 96.01% RTP with medium volatility, and stakes from 0.20 to 100.00. Stablemates like Boomstick Bill 2 and Bucket of Bass cover similar ground, but neither banks its appeal on a counter that refuses to reset. The goddess keeps what you give her.
Base Game & Features
Wins form left to right across 20 fixed paylines, starting from the first reel. The number of lines played is fixed, so there’s nothing to adjust there. If multiple winning combinations land on a single payline, only the highest one pays, and the total payout is every payline win plus any Scatter win added together.
The symbol ladder runs from Pegasus at the top, through Greek icons like the winged coin, the blue sphinx statue, the laurel wreath and the amphora, down to the four card suits. The Prize owl coin and the Wheel sit outside the standard ladder entirely. Paytable values are quoted in credits at your current bet, so they scale with your stake. Each figure below is what three, four and five of a kind pay as printed.
- Pegasus: 0.50 / 5.00 / 15.00 for three, four and five of a kind
- Winged Coin: 0.50 / 2.50 / 10.00
- Sphinx (blue statue): 0.50 / 2.50 / 10.00
- Laurel Wreath: 0.50 / 2.50 / 10.00
- Amphora: 0.50 / 1.50 / 8.00
- Spade: 0.50 / 1.00 / 5.00
- Heart: 0.50 / 1.00 / 5.00
- Club: 0.50 / 1.00 / 5.00
- Diamond: 0.50 / 1.00 / 5.00
Wilds substitute for all symbols except Scatters, Wheel and Prize symbols, and they only appear on reels two through five. Prize symbols occupy reels one and two. Roaming Wilds don’t appear in the base game at all; they’re a free spins exclusive.
Your total bet is divided evenly across the 20 lines, and each payline win is paid against that per-line stake rather than the full amount.
Wild Rewards
The feature fires when at least one Wild Rewards symbol lands on every reel, one through five. Every Wild and Roaming Wild on the grid then reveals a Prize symbol, and all the credit values on display are paid out in one go.
Prize symbol values run from 0.2x your bet up to 50x, and with multiple Wilds revealing multiple Prizes on a single trigger, those values stack. Because the trigger needs a Wild on all five reels, it stays rare enough to feel like an event when it lands.
Wheel Bonus
A Wheel symbol can randomly attach itself to any symbol except Scatters, Wilds and Prizes, and only in the base game. When it appears, it may randomly trigger the Wheel Bonus. That’s one spin of a prize wheel, with five wedges on offer:
- 2,500x bet
- 250x bet
- 50x bet
- 20x bet
- 10x bet
That 2,500x top wedge is the largest single prize in the game. Everything about the trigger is random, so there’s no way to work towards it.
Roaming Wilds Trail
Land exactly two Scatters on a spin and you move one position along the Roaming Wilds Trail. Three Scatters trigger free spins instead, so the trail only pays out on the near-miss. Every fifth position along the trail adds a Roaming Wild, up to a maximum of nine.
The trail only accumulates in the base game, and it doesn’t reset until you trigger free spins with all nine Roaming Wilds banked. At that point it drops randomly back to two, three or four, and the climb begins again. That persistence is the clever part: every two-Scatter spin is a step towards something, not a disappointment.
Reign of Fire Free Spins & Bonuses
Free Spins
Three or more Scatters trigger eight free spins, with bets and lines matching the triggering spin. Scatters pay in any position, unlike payline symbols. Landing three or more Scatters during the round adds another eight spins, and there’s no stated limit on retriggers.
The round retriggers cleanly, which matters here more than in most games. More spins means more movement from the Roaming Wilds, which is where the money lives.
Roaming Wild
Roaming Wilds only exist inside free spins, and they substitute for all symbols except Scatters and Prize symbols. On the first free spin, however many you’ve accumulated on the trail appear at random positions across reels two, three, four and five.
On every spin after that, each Roaming Wild moves to a new random position on those same reels. Nine of them roaming the middle four reels, with retriggers available, is where this game’s payout potential concentrates. The trail reset after a nine-wild round gives the whole thing a natural long-game rhythm: climb, cash in, climb again.
Our Honest Verdict
Overall Rating: 7.8/10
Reign of Fire is a slot you play in instalments. You feed the trail spin by spin, the way the goddess on the reel edge feeds that little flame, and the reason to choose it is that nothing here is wasted: even a spin that misses by one symbol buys you a step towards the round you actually came for.
The trail makes good on that promise because it can’t be taken away from you until it pays out in full, which gives a session here a shape most collection meters only imitate. The Wheel Bonus doesn’t belong. It’s the biggest single prize in the game on a trigger you can’t influence at all, which sits strangely next to a design built entirely on accumulation.
This is one for players who like a long build and a game that remembers them, with medium volatility keeping the climb affordable. Players after instant fireworks will find the goddess slow to warm, but she keeps her promises eventually.
