Bubblin’ Riches Slot Review
Somewhere in a sunlit tropical shallow, past the kelp and the blurred outline of a sunken castle, a small goldfish wearing a crown is grinning at you. That fish is the most important symbol in Bubblin’ Riches, and it never appears on the reels: the game’s real action happens above them, in a scatter-eating economy that quietly makes the paytable beside it almost decorative.
This is a collector’s game: nearly everything the base game produces feeds a scatter-gathering system rather than paying out directly. It plays out on a 5×4 grid with mid to high volatility and a ceiling of 10,000x the bet, which puts it in the same waters as Reactoonz and Boat Bonanza Colossal Catch, with Book of Dead still the studio’s calling card. The goldfish, though, is Play’n GO‘s own idea.
How the Base Game Pays
The paytable is a thin affair by design, because the coin scatter does most of the interesting work elsewhere. What the top symbols pay is as follows:
- Fish (orange) and Fish (pink): five of a kind pays 3x the bet, six pays 5x
- Wild: six of a kind pays 6x the bet
Two fish symbols share the top of the regular paytable, and the wild actually out-pays them both at six of a kind. A six-symbol wild line is the richest combination the base game can build, and even that is modest by the standards of the features stacked around it.
The rest of the reel symbols are the lower-value letters and further fish colours, which fill out wins without ever carrying them. The exact values for those symbols aren’t published figures; what matters is that they’re a long way below the fish pair, and no combination of them will fund a session on its own.
The wild substitutes for every symbol except the coin scatter and the fish scatter. That’s its whole job in the base game, and it does it without ceremony.
Two scatters run the show, and neither pays a line win of its own. The coin scatter is the one to watch, because it never really goes away: land five or fewer and they’re collected into the goldfish rather than wasted. The fish scatter is the free spins trigger, needing three or more.
The Goldfish Feature
Every coin scatter that lands without triggering anything else gets swallowed by the crowned goldfish above the reels. The fish visibly grows as it eats, though its size is purely cosmetic and doesn’t change the odds of anything. A fat fish and a thin fish trigger at the same rate.
As long as the fish holds one or more collected coins, it has a chance to trigger and spit out a reward prize. The ladder it can award looks like this:
- Mini: 20x the total bet
- Minor: 50x the total bet
- Major: 100x the total bet
- Grand: 1,000x the total bet
Each prize is a multiple of the total bet, not the line bet, so the Mini at 20x is worth more than it might sound. The four-step ladder is generous at the top and modest at the bottom, with the Grand at 1,000x sitting comfortably above anything the base paytable can produce.
It’s a lottery ticket that builds in the background, and the Grand ribbon is a constant reminder of it at the top of the screen. The chance-based trigger keeps it from being something you can plan around.
Lock’N Gold
Lock’N Gold sits between the Goldfish feature and the bonus round, and it starts before you’re officially in it. Land four or five coin scatters and the reels without them re-spin, giving a second chance at the sixth. Land six coin scatters and the feature proper begins: a hold-and-win round with three initial re-spins.
Four coin scatters means only one reel re-spins; five means the remaining reels get the treatment. The more scatters you land, the fewer reels need to cooperate, and the sixth is the one that opens the round proper.
From there the loop runs in a strict order. Each re-spin either brings in a new coin scatter or it doesn’t. Coins that land stick in place for the rest of the round. Any spin that brings in at least one coin resets the re-spin count back to three. A spin with no new coins burns one re-spin.
That reset rule is the generous part: a single sticky coin arriving on the last re-spin restores the full allowance, and chains of arrivals can keep the round alive far beyond its opening three spins. Only a run of three consecutive coin-less spins ends it.
Filling the entire screen with coin scatters awards a flat 500x the total bet, regardless of what the individual coins are worth. The floor is fixed even when the coins themselves are small. Below a full screen, the value of the landed coins decides the payout.
Reward Spins Bonus
Three or more fish scatters trigger a wheel bonus that awards the Reward Spins round. The wheel’s segments depend on how many scatters landed, so the more you start with, the higher the floor:
- 3 fish scatters: 10, 15, 20, 25 or 30 spins
- 4 fish scatters: 15, 20, 25 or 30 spins
- 5 fish scatters: 20, 25 or 30 spins
- 6 fish scatters: 25 or 30 spins
The pattern is straightforward: every extra scatter removes the smallest segment from the wheel. Three scatters can still land 30 spins, but they can also land 10. Six scatters can’t do worse than 25.
The wheel also sets a starting multiplier of x1 up to x5, so a six-scatter trigger can begin the round already doing meaningful work. Coin scatters don’t appear during Reward Spins; this round belongs entirely to the fish.
Multiplier Wilds and Retriggers
Special wilds can land on any reel during the round, in x1, x2 and x3 flavours. Each one adds its value to a running multiplier counter, and that counter applies to every win in the Reward Spins, not just the spin it landed on. A wild that lands on spin two is still working on spin twenty-five.
Retriggers work on a simple rule: every fish scatter that lands during the round adds one spin to the counter. The spins and the multiplier climb on separate tracks, one fed by scatters and the other by wilds.
Stack a few multiplier wilds early and the back half of a 30-spin round can snowball, which is where the game’s bigger results live. The counter only ever climbs, which gives the round a natural arc.
Our Honest Verdict
Overall Rating: 7.7/10
Playing Bubblin’ Riches is mostly a waiting game with a fish at the centre of it: you feed the crowned goldfish and hope it decides to pay up. What you get between payouts is small line wins and swallowed coins, and the one reason to sit through them is the sense that everything is quietly building towards something.
The Reward Spins round pays that patience off better than anything else here. A multiplier that never resets, on a round that keeps adding spins, can turn a good trigger into a big one. That’s the best thing in the game by some distance.
The goldfish itself is the weak spot. It fires on pure chance, with nothing to influence and no skill of timing to it, so the feature the game is named around is the one you have the least hand in. This suits the patient sort who enjoy watching a build take shape; anyone who wants their features earned rather than sprung on them will find the water cold. Those happy to let the fish do the work can dive in with a clear conscience.
