Fortune Skull 500 Slot Review
A skeleton mariachi in a cream suit strums a guitar at the edge of a Mexican street lit for Día de Muertos, papel picado bunting strung overhead and marigolds spilling into the corners of the frame. What TaDa Gaming has built underneath that festival is a game where the reels don’t finish deciding your win when they stop: on Fortune Skull 500, a fourth multiplier reel gets the final say on almost every payout, and that column matters more than the 3×3 grid beside it.
It runs on five paylines, with stakes from 0.2 to 200 per spin and a maximum payout multiplier of 25,000x. The studio treads similar compact ground in 3 Bao Riches, but neither that nor 3 Lightning Blitz hands you a multiplier reel on every single spin.
That extra column is where the real game happens. The festival goes on around it.
The Grid, the Wild and the Paytable
Fortune Skull 500 plays on a 3×3 grid with five paylines. Winning symbols pay left to right, and each line pays only its highest combination. The WILD lands on all reels and substitutes for all symbols.
The paytable is a modest one, with nine three-of-a-kind tiers. Read as multiples of stake at the game’s reference bet of 0.6, from the top of the table down:
- 25x for each of the top two symbols
- 10x
- 7.5x
- 6x
- 5x
- 4x
- 2.5x
- 1x
The paytable is dynamic, so the figures on screen always reflect the current bet level. There’s no naming which symbol carries which value; the table reads as nine anonymous tiers from top to bottom.
One mechanic here is genuinely non-standard. A normal-bet win takes the paytable payout, applies the special reel multiplier, then divides by five, which is how the game spreads a single line win across its five lines. The extra bet mode calculates its winnings from the normal bet settings and the same paytable values.
The game also runs on hard caps. A round ends the moment the maximum payout multiplier is reached, with everything paid out at once. The overall payout ceiling is 5,000,000, and the game’s maximum payout multiplier can be won within 100,000,000 rounds of play.
The Special Reel
To the right of the 3×3 grid sits the fourth reel, carrying random multiplier symbols and Ex NUDGE symbols. Every winning spin has its payout multiplied by whatever sits at the centre of that reel. There are eleven multipliers in total:
- 1x, 2x, 3x, 5x, 10x, 15x, 20x, 25x, 50x and 100x, up to a maximum of 500x
The Ex NUDGE symbol lands only on the fourth reel. If the round has a win, the special reel activates and runs a series of downward multiplier grabs, with the number of grabs set by the symbol. The extracted multipliers are added together and applied to the total win of the spin.
It works as a sequence. The symbol stops on a grab count, the special reel then walks down its column that many times, and each step it passes collects the multiplier it lands on. Five grabs at an average of 10x each would multiply the win by roughly 50x before the round settles. The reel decides the order of the grabs on its own; there’s nothing to choose.
The grab counts run at 2, 3, 4, 5, 8, 10, 15, 20, 25 or 50 times in the base game. With Extra Bet 1 active, the ladder extends to 100, 200 and 500 grabs; Extra Bet 2 starts the ladder at 5 and runs to the same 500 ceiling.
Ex NUDGE WILD
The Ex NUDGE WILD lands on reels 1, 2 and 3 and works as a wild. When it lands and there’s a win in the round, it doesn’t need to be on a payline, the same downward multiplier grabs trigger. It’s the symbol that ties the two halves of the game together.
Gift of Fortune Skull
Each spin carries a random chance of triggering the Gift of Fortune Skull. When it fires, one or more of these effects can occur:
- Three to five multiplier or Ex NUDGE symbols are selected, and their odds on the special reel rise sharply
- One higher-value symbol is selected and replaces the final result on the special reel
- The final multiplier symbol on the reel upgrades to a higher value
- A reel respins with a higher win guaranteed
- The winning multiplier is swapped for a larger one on the special reel
The pool the feature draws from covers the full top end of the reel: x2, x3, x5, x10, x15, x20, x25, x50, x100, x500 and the Ex NUDGE symbol. That matters for the odds-boosting effect in particular, since the symbols whose chances rise can include the 500x itself.
Because it can strike on any spin, it keeps the fourth reel worth watching even when the grid has produced nothing. The replacement and upgrade effects in particular can turn a forgettable result into a proper one.
Extra Bet
The EX toggle switches on an extra bet, opening a specification screen with two options. Both strip the low multipliers out of the special reel and out of the Gift of Fortune Skull feature:
- Extra Bet 1 at a 1.5x bet multiplier: removes the 1x and 2x symbols, leaving 3x, 5x, 10x, 15x, 20x, 25x, 50x, 100x and 500x. Ex NUDGE grab counts can reach 500.
- Extra Bet 2 at an 8x bet multiplier: removes everything up to 10x, leaving 15x, 20x, 25x, 50x, 100x and 500x. Grab counts run from 5 up to 500.
Extra bet winnings are the base bet amount times the odds, calculated on the normal bet settings. The regular maximum bet is 200, while the extra bet’s maximum is 1,600. The extra bet can be switched off again at any time, and feature plays carry the same bet settings as the round that triggered them.
Our Honest Verdict
Overall Rating: 7.2/10
This is a game of waiting for the last column to stop. You play a modest 3×3 grid in a beautifully painted street party, and most of the time the interesting part happens after the win has already landed, when the fourth reel decides what it’s worth. That suspense is the one reason to pick it: no other part of Fortune Skull 500 is doing anything you haven’t seen on a dozen three-reel games.
Its strength is the Ex NUDGE. A grab sequence can stack multipliers far past anything the paytable suggests, and the Gift of Fortune Skull can rescue a dull result on any spin, which keeps dead reels worth watching. Its weakness is that the base reel is padded with 1x and 2x symbols, so the default game often pays you roughly what the line was worth anyway, and the interesting version costs 1.5x or 8x your stake to unlock.
It suits multiplier chasers who enjoy a slow build and don’t need a free spins round to stay interested. Anyone after a straightforward three-reeler with honest line pays will find the fourth reel an acquired taste. The mariachi, at least, plays whatever you decide.
