Mole Digger Slot Review
A hand-drawn gold mine cave, all timber beams, stacked dynamite and a rail track disappearing into the rock, with crystal clusters glowing green and cyan where the torchlight catches them. Most mining slots use the pit as scenery; Mole Digger builds its whole payout structure around hauling things out of it, so the theme isn’t decoration here, it’s the reason the reels pay at all.
Play’n GO have made the gathering the whole game here, rather than dressing a standard spinner in miner’s boots. The result runs on a 5×4 grid with 25 paylines and mid volatility, with a 10,000x maximum win on the table. It sits in the studio’s catalogue alongside gem-stacking favourites like Honey Rush 100, Gemix 2 and Book Of Dead, though it plays nothing like the last of those.
The Base Game
Mole Digger is a five-reel game with 25 paylines, and wins pay left to right from the leftmost reel. Multiple payline wins in a single round are added together, and anything won through the features stacks on top of payline wins. It’s a conventional spine for an unconventional set of extras.
The mole himself is the wild, labelled plainly on the reel, and he substitutes for the regular symbols. There’s no scatter as such; the gem symbols carry the triggering work instead, which is where the design gets interesting.
The paying symbols split into two tiers, mining equipment above card royals:
- Rope, Hammer, Spade and Pickaxe: the higher-paying symbols
- Jack, Queen, King and Ace: the lower-paying symbols
The four tool symbols fit the setting, and they’re the ones worth watching for when no gems are in view. The royals fill out the bottom of the paytable in the usual way, and no line of five will shift the needle much without feature money attached.
Beyond those sit the gems. Yellow Gems each carry a random cash value as a multiple of the total bet, and those values run wide:
- 1x, 2x, 3x, 4x, 5x, 7x, 8x, 10x, 12x, 15x, 20x, 25x, 50x and 500x the total bet
Fourteen rungs, spaced so that the big jumps sit at the very top of the ladder. What a yellow Gem is worth depends on where it lands, too, because uncollected values carry over.
Only the Mine Cart Feature can collect those values in the base game. Whatever a yellow Gem shows but isn’t collected gets carried into the Hold’n Win feature instead, so nothing landed is ever wasted. Yellow Gems never award feature enhancements in either mode; they’re pure cash.
The Mine Cart Feature
One or more mine carts can roll in under the reels on any spin. When one lands, every cash value on the reel above that cart is collected. It’s that direct: a cart parks beneath a reel, and whatever yellow Gems are sitting on that reel get hauled away as a win.
Because carts can land more than one at a time, a lucky spin can sweep several reels at once. A reel with no cash values on it gives its cart nothing to do, so the feature’s value tracks how many yellow Gems happen to be stacked above the rails.
In a game where yellow Gem values are otherwise locked until Hold’n Win triggers, the carts are the base game’s only route to instant cash, which makes an otherwise ordinary reel set feel worth watching. One top-rung gem above a cart is the difference between a dud spin and a proper hit.
Hold’n Win and the Gem Enhancements
The green, red and blue Gem symbols are collected by gem pots above the reels during the base game, and filling them is what triggers the Hold’n Win feature. Any of those gems that start or land during the round award their own feature enhancement on top, which is where the three colours earn their keep.
Boost, Mystery and Collect
Each colour does one job:
- Green Gem, Boost: boosts all cash values with a chosen random multiplier of 1x, 2x, 3x, 4x, 5x, 7x or 10x the total bet
- Red Gem, Mystery: awards a higher-paying mystery value of 10x, 12x, 15x, 25x, 50x or 500x the total bet
- Blue Gem, Collect: collects all cash values in view
When more than one enhancement is awarded in a round, they process in a fixed order: Mystery first, then Boost, then Collect. That ordering matters. The mystery value lands before anything is boosted, and everything is boosted before it’s collected, so a full house of gems pays out in the most generous sequence the game allows.
The boost range tops out at 10x, which on a board full of yellow Gems can multiply a lot of cash at once. The mystery range starts where the boost range ends, at 10x, and climbs to 500x. The blue Gem’s job doesn’t scale at all; it simply sweeps the board, which makes it the finisher when the other two have done their work.
Cash Pots
Hold’n Win also carries a four-tier pot ladder, shown on the sidebar as multiples of stake:
- Mini: 15x
- Minor: 25x
- Major: 50x
- Grand: 500x
The steps aren’t even: Mini to Minor to Major climbs in 10x and 25x increments, then the ladder jumps from 50x to a Grand worth ten times that. The Grand pot at 500x is the ladder’s ceiling, but the yellow Gems carry values right up to 500x on their own, and the enhancement stacking can push a single round well past what any individual pot pays. The 10,000x maximum win sits above all of it, reachable only when the gems, boosts and collects line up.
Our Honest Verdict
Overall Rating: 7.8/10
Playing Mole Digger feels like watching a cart fill up: most spins don’t move the needle, and then one rolls out heavy. That slow-build gathering, with pots visibly filling above the reels, is what sets it apart, and it’s a rarer pleasure than the mining dressing suggests.
The best thing here is that nothing you land is ever wasted; every uncollected gem value survives to the feature, and the enhancement order means a good round compounds instead of paying out in pieces. The worst is the dry ground between features. The ordinary paytable is thin enough that long stretches ride entirely on hope.
This one suits a bankroll that enjoys visible progress towards a payday rather than brutal variance or quick hits. Mid volatility fits that pacing, and the mine rewards the patience.
