Penguin Heist Slot Review
Two masked penguins tear down a neon-soaked city street in a flame-painted purple convertible, deposit boxes padlocked along the base of the reels and the grid framed in gold columns like a bank vault. It’s a good metaphor for how Oi Studios has built the thing, because Penguin Heist doesn’t give up its best loot on the first visit: four of its five wild features are locked behind a spin counter, and the game you meet in your first hour is only half the game that exists.
It plays on a 5×4 grid with 20 fixed paylines, runs at 96.01% RTP with high volatility. Stakes run from 0.20 to 50.00 per spin. The studio’s earlier Oh Say Can You Spin went hunting for odd American themes; this one settles for cartoon crime, and carries it well.
Base Game & Features
The reels sit five across and four down, with wins paid left to right across 20 fixed paylines. Only the highest winning combination counts per symbol, and the total payout is the sum of every payline win in a spin. Straightforward stuff.

Wilds substitute for everything except the key, jackpot and bonus symbols, and a winning line that starts with a wild takes the highest-paying combination available. The wilds matter more here than in most games, because half the feature set exists to manufacture them.
The paytable is a heist crew of penguins and their gear, and it’s a modest one:
- Penguin with staff (green): 0.7x / 3x / 10x for three, four, five
- Penguin in headscarf (red): 0.5x / 2x / 4x
- Penguin in pilot goggles (blue): 0.4x / 1.5x / 3x
- Purple car: 0.4x / 1x / 2.5x
- Binoculars: 2x for five
- Q and J: 0.2x / 0.4x / 1x
Wild Burst Feature
A spin counter sits above the reels, counting down from 50 and resetting when it hits zero. Landing a Wild Burst symbol triggers one random unlocked feature, and the catalogue grows the longer you play:
- Regular Vault and Double Vault – available from the first spin; both create a golden zone where every symbol turns wild, and Double Vault adds an extra Wild Burst symbol
- Respin – unlocked after 50 spins; holds every winning combination and respins the rest, paying the initial spin’s value twice if nothing is left to respin
- No Low – unlocked after 100 spins; strips the low-value symbols out and drops fresh ones in
- Wild Stacks – unlocked after 150 spins; converts one to three wild reels into stacks, and existing wilds may upgrade to x2
- Wild Multiplier – unlocked after 200 spins; upgrades wilds to X2-X10 multipliers, additive when several land in one win
Once the last one arrives, the counter is retired for good. It’s a persistent-progression system in costume: your first fifty spins get the plain vaults, and the full toolkit only exists for players who stay.

Penguin Heist Bonus Features
UpZones LockNWin
Four bonus symbols, Museum, Jeweller, Bank and Mansion, collect into pots above the reels, and a full pot can randomly fire its feature. Collecting a Key symbol on all five reels spins a Bonus Wheel that awards one of the four instantly, with keys banked across several spins.
Each location pays out a matching package, the tier rising as the targets get richer:
- Museum: 3 spins and 3 UpZones
- Jeweller: 4 of each
- Bank: a 5-and-5 round
- Mansion: the top tier, with 6 spins across 6 UpZones
Before it starts, the feature can be gambled for the next tier up. The upgrade chances are 57.85% from Museum, 59.71% from Jeweller and 66.54% from Bank; Mansion can’t be gambled, and a failed gamble pays nothing.
The round itself plays on the 5×4 grid plus a horizontal top row. Diamond symbols, worth 0.5x to 100x the bet, land on the main reels, and highlighted UpZone positions do the work: a diamond landing in one spins the top row and creates another UpZone.
The top row carries five specials. Collect gathers every diamond. Boost adds 1x to 25x bet to all of them. Multiplier doubles to x100 a single diamond, won’t touch one already multiplied, and tops out at 2000x when a 20x diamond catches the full x100. Spin awards two or three extra spins, and Jackpot fires the jackpot feature. The round ends when every position fills or the spins run out.

Jackpot Wheel
Jackpot coins land in the base game only, in mini, minor, major and mega flavours, and more than one of a type can arrive in a single spin. Each coin adds 1x bet to its jackpot and grants a chance to spin the wheel, which triggers once however many coins you’ve collected.
- Mini: opens at 10x bet, tops out at 25x
- Minor: a 25x bet floor with a 100x ceiling
- Major: grows from 250x bet to as much as 500x
- Mega: starts at 2500x bet and reaches 5000x
Every spin of the wheel pays one of the four, guaranteed, and the winner resets to its starting value. The ladder rebuilding after every award is the quiet strength here: a mega that’s been fed all session pays up to 5000x, then the climb starts again.
Buy Feature
The base game’s BUY button sells the UpZones rounds directly, and a Mystery option rolls the tier for less than the mid-range asking prices:
- Museum: 36.48x bet
- Jeweller: 62.49x bet
- Bank: 104.13x bet
- Mansion: 156.50x bet
- Mystery: 42.12x bet
Buying isn’t available above a certain bet threshold, and the bet level is chosen in the buy menu. The purchased RTPs hold steady between 96.01% and 96.03% whichever route you take, so the buys are priced for impatience rather than edge.

Our Honest Verdict
Overall Rating: 7.7/10
Like any decent heist, this one spends a long time on the planning and very little on the getaway. You turn up for the penguins and the neon, but the real reason to give it a session is the counter ticking away above the reels, quietly promoting you from two-bit vault-opener to a burglar with the full toolkit. There’s something satisfying about a slot that gets bigger the longer you stay in the building.
The UpZones round is the prize in the vault. Two layers moving at once, diamonds on the grid and specials on the top row, means a single spin can snowball, and the gamble tiers give the feature a nerve test before it even starts. The weakness is just as clear: the first hundred spins are thin, with a paytable that pays 10x at the top and most of the wild machinery still in the van.
It’s one for the patient, then – players who enjoy earning a game rather than being handed it, and who like their high volatility with a bit of charm. If you want the full payout from the first spin, the convertible’s still idling outside, and the keys are in the buy menu.
