Royal Hunt Slot Review
A grand hall lit by chandeliers, masked guests in tailcoats, and a woman in a wide-brimmed black hat standing at the edge of the reels with a revolver in her gloved hand. Peter & Sons have built Royal Hunt around a simple, arguable idea: the paytable barely matters, because the whole game lives in the gun. Everything else here is setting, and very handsome setting at that.
The trouble with a masked ball is you never quite know who’s holding the gun, and that suits this game better than it first appears. Royal Hunt runs on a 6×4 grid with 4,096 ways to win, cascading reels, and a win cap of 5,000x the bet. Studio fans will find familiar ground: Peter Hunter and Animafia played similar games with ways and modifiers, and Barbarossa: Beyond the Edge took the same painterly approach to pirates. The revolver is what makes this one its own.
4,096 Ways on a 6×4 Grid
There are no paylines. Any identical symbol on three or more adjacent reels from the left pays, and because the grid is six reels by four rows, that gives 4,096 possible ways. It’s a standard All Ways setup, wins counted on the longest combination from left to right.
One wrinkle is worth knowing. If a reel carries more than one copy of the winning symbol, the copies multiply each other. Two on the first reel, three on the second and two on the third counts as a three-of-a-kind win with a 12x multiplier attached.
Stacked reels can turn a modest hit into something much bigger. The wild replaces every symbol except the scatter, and it’s also the richest symbol on the panel. Wilds carry their own paytable row, which most games don’t bother with.
Scatters appear in the base game only and don’t pay anything themselves; three of them start the bonus. The paying symbols are a masked cast, and their values as multiples of the total bet are:
- Wild: 0.8x for three, 1.5x for four, 2x for five, 4x for six
- Red Masked Man: 0.6x / 1x / 1.5x / 2.5x
- Pink Masked Woman: 0.5x / 0.8x / 1.2x / 2x
- Green Masked Man: 0.4x / 0.6x / 1x / 1.5x
- Woman with Glasses: 0.3x / 0.5x / 0.8x / 1.2x
- Maid: 0.2x / 0.4x / 0.6x / 0.8x
- Fleur-de-lis: 0.1x / 0.3x / 0.4x / 0.6x
- Heart, Diamond, Club, Spade: 0.1x / 0.2x / 0.3x / 0.4x
Cascading Reels
Every win sets off a cascade. The winning symbols clear away and new ones drop into the gaps, and the drops keep coming for as long as new wins form. Cascades are the engine under everything else here, because the revolver charges up while they run.
One detail matters: after a revolver transform, no cascade follows. The transform is the end of the chain, not the start of a new one.
Revolver Transform
A revolver symbol can land anywhere on the panel, carrying between one and six charges. Each cascade that runs adds one charge to it, so a spin that chains three wins takes a fresh revolver from one charge to four.
When the cascades finish and no win is left on the panel, the revolver fires and turns one to six regular symbols into wilds. A one-charge revolver replaces a single symbol. A fully loaded one replaces six, which on a four-row grid can blanket most of a reel in wilds. The more cascades you chain, the more wilds it makes.
It’s a neat bit of design. Wins that would otherwise end the spin instead load the gun, and the gun then reshapes the board for whatever comes next. In the base game the payoff is a wild-heavy panel and another chance at a chain; in the bonus it’s the whole show.
Free Spins
Three scatters award seven free spins, and each additional scatter adds three more. The round is played at the bet that triggered it, and it can’t be retriggered.
The difference from the base game is the loaded revolvers. Up to three of them can be on the panel at once, each holding one to six bullets and gaining a charge with every cascade until it reaches six.
With multiple revolvers feeding on the same chains, wilds stack quickly, and the multiplier effect of duplicate wilds on a reel is what pushes the round towards the bigger numbers. Seven spins for three scatters is a thin starting allocation, and there’s no way to top it up. The revolvers have to do all the work.
Power-Ups, Revolver Bet and Bonus Buys
The power-ups menu gathers the paid extras in one place. The cheapest is a bet booster: pay 1.5x your stake on every spin and your chances of hitting free spins double, with a better shot at loaded revolvers too.
Three straight buys sit alongside it:
- Buy Loaded Revolver: 18x the base bet, guarantees a loaded revolver with six bullets on the next spin
- Buy Random Revolver: 40x the base bet, guarantees one to three loaded revolvers with three to six bullets each
- Buy Random Free Spins: 70x the base bet, awards 7, 10, 13 or 16 free spins
Note the gamble in the random free spins buy: you pay 70x and the game decides whether you get the short end.
Some features and options may not be available in every jurisdiction. Spins run on a certified random number generator, and simultaneous wins are added together and paid as one.
Our Honest Verdict
Overall Rating: 7.6/10
Playing Royal Hunt is an evening at a masked ball where one guest holds all the cards: long stretches of tidy cascades under the chandeliers, punctuated by the moment a revolver fires and the whole room changes. That gun is why anybody sits down at this table. No other symbol here decides a session so completely.
At its best, in the free spins round, three revolvers charge at once and the panel fills with wilds faster than almost anything else in the studio’s catalogue. At its worst, the round hands you seven spins with no way to extend them, and a quiet start means the ball is over before the music gets going.
It’s a good match for players who like one strong mechanic given the whole stage, and for anyone who wants a slot that looks hand-painted rather than assembled. Big-multiplier hunters will find the ceiling modest. Everyone else can enjoy the party: the décor is lovely, and the hostess is armed.
