Base Game & Features
Starburst is the latest Mid-Low volatility release from NetEnt, featuring 5 reels, 3 rows, and a Pay Anywhere mechanic. Winning combinations are guaranteed when 3, 4, or 5 identical symbols land from left to right or right to left, starting from either the first or fifth reel.
The 7 paytable symbols represent bars, 7s, and a variety of coloured Gems, each awarding a fixed payout between 0.5x and 25x your bet. Lastly, Rainbow Wilds appear on reels 2, 3, and 4, substituting for all paytable symbols.
Starburst Wilds Feature
As mentioned previously, Wild symbols are only available on reels 2, 3, and 4 during gameplay. When a Wild symbol appears, it will instantly activate the Starburst Wilds Feature.
Each triggering Wild symbol will expand to cover the entire reel, awarding a single Respin. If additional Wild symbols land, they will also expand and stick to the reel(s) for another Respin.
The Starburst Wilds feature can continue until 3 Wild symbols are in view, thus awarding a total of 3 Respins.
Our Honest Verdict
Upon your first time seeing Starburst, you’ll be mesmerised by the magnificent displays of colour and high-quality graphics. However, the game itself is a little less impressive, with the bare minimum available in terms of Features and/or Free Spins.
In the base game, you have the Starburst Wilds feature to contend with, which guarantees a Respin each time a Wild symbol comes into view.
Although visually stimulating, this feature could have benefited from a number of upgrades (multipliers, cash prizes, etc) to satisfy more experienced players; however, the allure of the 50,000x max win dangles over your head like a carrot on a string.
It’s hard to comprehend how a game of this stature could possibly dish out a 50,000x max win potential, but we’d love to be proven wrong. If you’re content with a single Respins feature, Starburst will make a great addition to your favourite collection, but we’re pretty sure it’s not going to be enough for the more skilled player.
All in all, Starburst makes a dramatic entrance with its bursts of colour, unique structure, and impressive 50,000x max win potential, but the single feature offers little excitement or innovation.
