Tesla Jolt Slot Review
A spiked metal sphere looms in the corner of a cluttered workshop, chalk scribbles covering the blackboard behind the reels and copper wiring looped over every wall. It’s an inventor’s den in moody, hand-drawn steampunk, cool blues against warm brass. For a game about a man who wanted to light up the world, though, Tesla Jolt is a small machine: nearly everything it pays out is stored first and released later, and the fun of it lives in the wait rather than the wiring.
Tesla Jolt is an early Nolimit City build: a 5×3 grid with 20 bet lines, an RTP of 96.61%, and a maximum win of 582x the bet. That ceiling sits well below the likes of Tombstone and Deadwood, though it’s a gentler ride than either. Punk Rocker and the rest of the studio’s later, louder catalogue were still ahead of it.
Symbols, Wilds and Paytable
Fourteen symbols sit on the reels, split between workshop-themed pictures and the familiar card royals. The premiums are drawn from the theme’s own props: a brass medallion at the top, then a purple tool chest, a lightbulb and a plug. Below them run A, K, Q, a carved squiggle and 10.
Wins pay left to right on adjacent reels, with the highest combination per line the one that counts. Coinciding wins across different lines are all paid, and only activated lines can win. Stakes run from 0.2 to 100 per spin, and the hit rate is 32.02%, so roughly one spin in three connects with something.
There are two wilds in the game, one for the main game and one for Tesla Spins. A wild substitutes for any symbol except the scatter, always completing the best possible line it can. Five wilds on a line is also the joint-richest pay in the game.
All pays below are multiples of the total bet for three, four and five of a kind:
- Wild: 8x / 37.5x (four or five only)
- Brass Medallion: 1.25x / 8x / 37.5x
- Purple Tool Chest: 1x / 7x / 25x
- Lightbulb: 0.75x / 6x / 15x
- Plug: 0.5x / 5x / 10x
- A: 0.35x / 4.5x / 7.5x
- K: 0.35x / 4x / 6.25x
- Q: 0.25x / 3.5x / 5x
- Carved Squiggle Symbol: 0.25x / 3x / 4.5x
- 10: 0.25x / 2.5x / 4x
There’s a steep drop from the medallion to the tool chest at the five-of-a-kind mark, and the royals cluster tightly together in the bottom third, paying fractions of the stake for a full line. A winning line is always multiplied by the bet per line rather than the total stake.
The game also uses different reel configurations depending on the mode. The main game and the bonus round don’t run the same strips, so symbol frequencies in Tesla Spins aren’t simply a repeat of what the base game deals.
The Tesla Jolt Symbol
When the Tesla Jolt symbol lands on reel five in the main game, it electrifies one entire set of symbols on the reels: every instance of a single symbol, all the Js for instance, converts to a wild. The Tesla Jolt symbol itself becomes a wild as well.
It’s a one-shot conversion rather than a held modifier, so the value depends entirely on how many of the chosen symbol are on screen when it fires. A full board isn’t required for it to matter, but a single converted symbol doesn’t do much either.
Because the symbol only appears on the fifth reel, the conversion is the base game’s one moment of drama. Everything else in the main game is standard line-hit play, with the jolt as the only interruption.
Tesla Spins, Charged Wilds and the Time-lapse Trigger
Tesla Spins
Three, four or five scatters award the free spins round, with the count scaling by trigger:
- Three scatters: 10 Tesla Spins
- Four scatters: 15 Tesla Spins
- Five scatters: 20 Tesla Spins
Once inside, the bonus runs on its own reel set and its own wild, with two additional symbols layered on top of the standard play.
Charged Wilds
During Tesla Spins, any wild landing on reels two, three or four is collected on that reel rather than staying put. Once a reel holds three collected wilds, they discharge and are placed back onto their corresponding reel.
The storage is the point. Wilds don’t pay where they land; they pay when they’re released, either at three charges or when something forces the issue. On the final spin of the round, every charged wild discharges at once, placed randomly on its own reel.
Each of the three middle reels keeps its own tally, so a round can finish with one reel emptied early and another still holding charges. On the final spin, release positions are random within the reel; before that, a discharge simply puts the wilds back in play on their corresponding reel.
Time-lapse Trigger
The Time-lapse Trigger can land on reel five during Tesla Spins. It discharges all charged wilds back onto their reels and randomly awards one to three extra spins. No wilds are collected on the spin it appears. On the last spin of the round, it always awards three more, and it converts to a wild itself after paying out its spins.
The two symbols work as a pair: one banks wilds, the other releases them early and extends the round. Because the final-spin discharge empties everything anyway, the Time-lapse Trigger is at its most valuable when it lands with reels still holding charges and spins left to fill them again.
There’s a rhythm to that loop. Collect, release, collect again, and then a guaranteed emptying of the meters on the closing spin. A round that never sees the trigger simply runs its allotted spins and pays out its charges at the end.
Our Honest Verdict
Overall Rating: 7.2/10
Playing this is mostly watching a set of meters fill. That sounds like a criticism and isn’t: the base game is plain line-hit play, so the session becomes a slow build towards scatters, and the reason to pick it is that the bonus round actually rewards the wait, wilds stacking quietly until the last spin empties every meter at once. The workshop glow makes the waiting pleasant.
The storage mechanic is the strength: a free spins round with a guaranteed payoff structure, rather than ten spins and a shrug. The weakness is the arithmetic underneath. A 582x ceiling and a paytable where the royals pay pocket change mean the machine can only ever deliver small electricity.
It’s a good fit for players who like watching a bonus build towards a sure thing, and the wrong one for anyone after the studio’s big-voltage payouts. Kept to its modest scale, the little laboratory is a comfortable place to spend an evening.
