Thor 10K Ways Slot Review
Swords and axes stand upright in the stony ground of a misty pine forest, left where a battle finished and nobody stayed to collect them. That aftermath is the right picture for ReelPlay‘s Thor 10K Ways, a slot where the spoils sit in the hammers and the respins they unlock rather than in the ordinary paytable. The frame it plays on is a 6×4 grid with an extra reel row above the middle four columns, for 10,000 ways to win.
The maths is 96.08% RTP and high volatility, with a prize ladder inside the bonus that tops out at a 10,000x bonus prize. ReelPlay have run this engine before in Hercules 10K Ways and Hypernova 10K Ways. Here it’s wrapped in thunder, fog and old weapons.
10,000 Ways, Exploding Wins and the Top Reel
Wins pay left to right on adjacent reels, beginning with the leftmost, and only positions containing the winning symbol count towards that symbol’s win. So a five-of-a-kind of Axes only pays if all five Axes sit on consecutive reels from reel one onwards, regardless of what fills the rows between them.
The top reel is what makes the numbers work. It adds an extra symbol to each of reels two to five, giving every one of those columns a fifth position, and that’s what pushes the ways count to five figures. Select a total bet and you’re playing all 10,000 ways on every spin; there’s no way to trim the coverage or the cost.
Every winning symbol then explodes and is replaced by symbols dropping from above on the main grid and sliding in from the right on the top reel. A single spin can chain several wins together this way, with the fresh symbols forming new combinations and exploding in turn until no further win lands.
The cascades also give near-misses a second life: hammers that fell one short can be joined by new ones arriving in the drop. Thor himself is the wild, substituting for everything except the Hammer, and he appears on the top reel only. That’s the entire base-game toolkit: one wild, one scatter, one chain reaction.
The paytable is modest outside the bonus, with all values shown as multiples of the total bet:
- Axes: 2x, 5x, 10x and 50x for three to six
- Helmet: 0.5x, 1.5x, 2.5x and 5x
- Shield: 0.25x, 0.75x, 1.5x and 2.5x
- Horn: 0.25x, 0.5x, 1x and 2x
- A: 0.2x, 0.3x, 0.6x and 1.2x
- K: 0.15x, 0.3x, 0.6x and 1x
- Q: 0.15x, 0.3x, 0.5x and 0.9x
- J: 0.15x, 0.25x, 0.5x and 0.7x
- 10: 0.1x, 0.25x, 0.4x and 0.6x
- 9: 0.1x, 0.2x, 0.4x and 0.5x
Only the highest win counts per winning combination, and coinciding wins across different symbols are added together. The best symbol pays 50x for a full six-of-a-kind, which tells you where the real money in this game lives: not in the base paytable, but in the hammers.
Bonus Respins
Six or more Hammer symbols landing anywhere trigger the round. In the base game the Hammer appears on the six main reels but not the top reel; once the feature starts, it can appear on all reels including the top one, which widens the board considerably.
Three respins are awarded, and every Hammer that lands is held in place while the remaining positions spin again. Each new Hammer resets the respin count back to three, so a productive round keeps extending itself: as long as hammers keep arriving, the counter never drains.
The round ends when the respins run out or every visible position on the reels is filled with Hammers. A completely full board is the dream scenario, since every one of those held symbols pays at the finish.
At that point each held Hammer pays out its prize or bonus prize, and the whole feature runs at the bet of the triggering spin. The stake you chose before those hammers arrived is the one every prize multiplies.
Mjölnir Bonuses
Each Hammer carries either a cash prize or one of the Mjölnir bonus prizes. Non-bonus prizes range from 1x to 100x the total bet, and the amount displayed over a Hammer has already been multiplied by the stake. The bonus ladder runs:
- 10K Bonus: 10,000x total bet
- Grand Bonus: 2,000x total bet
- Major Bonus: 250x total bet
- Minor Bonus: 50x total bet
- Mini Bonus: 10x total bet
The prizes aren’t progressive, so the ladder values are fixed multiples rather than something that builds between rounds. The lower rungs carry the repetition rights: Mini and Minor can be awarded more than once in a single feature, while the 10K, Grand and Major can each land only once.
That repeat rule matters more than it looks on paper. A board filling with Hammers can stack several Minis and Minors alongside a single Major, so the total climbs with coverage rather than sitting on one big hit. The top prize is the one that can’t repeat, and it’s the only rung that fills a board on its own.
The Near Miss Bonus
Land exactly five Hammers after the explosions finish, and the Near Miss Bonus pays out instead. Each of the five Hammers awards its displayed prize or bonus prize immediately, with the same repetition rules the respins carry.
The timing is the interesting part. Because the trigger is counted after the explosions finish rather than when the symbols first land, a cascade that pushes you from four hammers to five still gets paid.
It’s a consolation rather than a headline round, and it’s over in a single payout. But it means five hammers are never dead weight on the reels.
Our Honest Verdict
Overall Rating: 7.1/10
A session here is mostly fog-watching. You spin, a wild drops from the top reel now and then, a chain of small wins pops, and you wait for hammers, because the respins are the whole reason to sit in this forest at all. Handsome scenery makes the waiting easier, and the cascades give the quiet stretches a pulse, but the spins between features genuinely don’t build anything.
When the hammers do arrive, the round earns the wait. The reset-on-every-hit counter means a productive board keeps breathing, and the Mjölnir ladder is well shaped: a 10,000x top prize that can land only once, with the Mini and Minor repeating freely, so a partial board still stacks into something real rather than one flat payout. The Near Miss Bonus quietly sweetens it by paying five hammers on the spot instead of shrugging.
The weakness is everything outside the bonus: one wild and a 50x best symbol is thin company for long stretches of high volatility. Collect-and-hold fans and anyone already fond of the 10K Ways engine will feel at home here; the spins-between-features crowd will find this battlefield quiet. Thor brings the hammer, and the hammer is the game.
