Tropical Tiki Slot Review 2024
Pragmatic Play is taking us on another tropical adventure in their latest Polynesian-themed slot, Tropical Tiki!
Polynesian-themed slots are in at the moment and so it makes sense that Pragmatic Play would join the trend with Tropical Tiki. Like the weather, things are heating up in Tropical Tiki thanks to a new twist on the old Tumbling Reels mechanic, plus a refreshing Free Spins round and a Bonus Buy option for those outside the UK.
Although its been some time since Pragmatic Play created a Polynesian-themed slot, providers Play’n GO, Avatar UX and Push Gaming are very much in tune with the subject, which shows in their titles Rotiki, TikiPop and Tiki Tumble. Pragmatic Play has always been very good at mixing things up in their slots with interesting themes and impressive features, but will Tropical Tiki be another to add to that list?
In terms of design, the background shows a beautiful Island scene with sand, trees and Tiki statues. Its not the most appealing of Polynesian backgrounds we’ve encountered but it does the job. During Free Spins the background stays the same only the time of day changes from day to night. It wouldn’t be a Polynesian theme without a few colourful, grinning Aztec Masks, which is exactly what you get.
The theme may be a common one, but will Tropical Tiki deliver something completely unique in gameplay? Let’s play on and find out!
Tropical Tiki Base Game and Features
Tropical Tiki is a 5 reel slot with up to 6,400 ways to win. In order to form wins, you will need a minimum of 3 matching symbols to connect from left to right, starting from the left-most reel. The minimum bet available here is £/€0.25 per spin and the maximum bet available is £/€125 per spin, with more than enough betting options in between the two.
Winning Symbols Tumble
Similar to the Tumbling Reels we’re used to seeing, Tropical Tiki has a Winning Symbols Tumble. Each time a winning combination forms on the reels, all winning symbols will lock onto the reels and all other symbols will disappear.
Once this happens, a new Tumble will occur, dropping in a full reel set of symbols. If more of the same locked symbols land in view they will also remain on the reels and another Tumble will occur. Any Scatters that land during this time will also remain locked in their positions. The Tumble feature will end when no more symbols are added to the existing winning combinations.
In terms of symbols, the highest paying symbol in Tropical Tiki is the Red Mask, followed by the Green and Blue Masks, Dragon Fruit, Grape and Coconut. Low-paying symbols are standard Ace, King, Queen, Jack and Ten. There are no Wild symbols present in Tropical Tiki.
Tropical Tiki Free Spins
Landing 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9 or 10 Scatters on reels 2, 3, 4 and 5 triggers the Free Spins round, awarding 8 Free Spins plus a payout of 5x, 10x, 15x, 20x, 25x, 30x and 35x your current bet.
Once the Free Spins round is active, the reels will transform into a grid of 5×6. At the start of the round, the Top Rows will be locked. During each Free Spin, one of the locked positions will open up randomly expanding the ways to win, up to a maximum of 8 positions per Free Spins round.
If the maximum win capacity of 3,000x is reached, the Free Spins round will come to an end and all remaining Free Spins will be forfeited.
Tropical Tiki Bonus Buy
For those outside the UK, you may benefit from a Bonus Buy option.
Tropical Tiki Free Spins can be purchased for a generous 100x your current bet. The total amount of Scatters that land when purchasing Free Spins is always 4.
The RTP when purchasing Free Spins drops slightly from 96.43% to 96.20%.
Tropical Tiki: Our Verdict
Tropical Tiki takes you to a place where your worries melt away, but alluring visuals can only take a game so far.
While we appreciate the effort that went into making Tropical Tiki as visually appealing as it could be, we feel like their efforts would be better placed at fine-tuning the math model. Potential in Tropical Tiki is lower than Pragmatic’s usual 5,000x by almost half with only 3,000x as a maximum up for grabs.
This is still a lot, of course; nobody is turning their nose up at 3,000x, but there’s certainly better options if you’re looking for the big-hitter.
Despite the potential, gameplay isn’t bad in Tropical Tiki, and Pragmatic certainly does enough to make it an entertaining journey if you’re not bothered about the maths behind it. Overall though, we fear Tropical Tiki just isn’t volatile enough for some, but with the renowned Pragmatic Play stamp on it, we don’t doubt that it will enjoy some success when it releases.
