Unboxing Oblivion Slot Review
A red-haired host in cat-ear headphones watches the reels from her neon lounge, blue flames flickering on the pedestals beside an ornate purple frame topped with a carved eye. Unboxing Oblivion has dressed its dark little parlour with real care, which is lucky, because you’ll be spending a lot of time looking at it. Almost nothing this game pays comes from the paytable; it comes from one symbol, and the wait for it is the game.
Peter & Sons are the studio behind it, the same illustrated sensibility that ran through Greedy Alice and Ghost Father. It plays on a 5×4 grid with 20 paylines, paid left to right. Strip away the velvet and the neon and this is a game about one symbol doing the heavy lifting: the wild. Everything worth knowing follows from it.
Symbols and Payouts
Wins need three or more matching symbols from the leftmost reel, on adjacent reels, and only the biggest combination on each line is paid. The values below are multiples of the total bet for three, four and five of a kind.
- Pink-haired character: 1.5x, 6x, 15x
- Mushroom lamp: 0.8x, 3x, 7x
- Blue cat with headphones: 0.7x, 2.5x, 6x
- Black Hole Kibble: 0.6x, 2x, 5x
- Heart: 0.3x, 0.7x, 1.5x
- Spade: 0.3x, 0.7x, 1.5x
- Diamond: 0.3x, 0.7x, 1.5x
- Club: 0.3x, 0.7x, 1.5x
- Treasure-chest wild: 1.5x, 6x, 15x, matching the top symbol
That’s a flat ladder, and the drop from the premium symbols to the card suits is steep. There’s no middle tier at all, which tells you where the game expects its wins to come from. The four card suits all pay identically, so a heart and a club are the same symbol wearing different clothes.
Because only the biggest combination per line is paid, extra matching symbols on the same line don’t stack up. What matters is linking adjacent reels from the left, and a symbol that lands on reel three but not reel two contributes nothing to that line.
The treasure-chest wild stands in for every symbol except the scatter. It pays like the top symbol too, so it’s never a dead landing. The scatter, a “Chat Says Feed It” tile, doesn’t pay at all: its whole job is opening the bonus round.
Multiplier Wilds
The wild is the game. It lands as a single symbol carrying a multiplier, and it can expand to cover more of the reel. Every copy it makes inherits the multiplier. The possible values:
- 2x, 3x, 5x, 8x, 10x, 20x or 50x
When a winning line runs through wilds that carry multipliers, the multipliers are added together and applied to the line’s win. So two wilds on one line at 10x and 5x pay the line at 15x. A 50x wild on its own already outruns anything the paytable offers.
Expansion comes in three directions:
- Up, filling the positions above the wild
- Down, filling the positions below it
- Across, taking over the full reel
An up or down expansion covers two positions at once; across covers all four rows. Since the wild substitutes for everything except the scatter, a fully expanded reel guarantees every payline passing through it gets its connecting symbol, each one carrying the original wild’s multiplier.
That makes expansion the difference between a wild that helps one line and a wild that helps a dozen. A single 20x wild filling reel two pushes its multiplier into every left-to-right combination that touches that reel.
Free Spins
Three or more scatters open the free spins round. Each scatter that lands assigns a multiplier to its entire reel, and those reel multipliers are what the round is built around.
Wilds that land during the round take their reel’s multiplier onto themselves. If a winning line contains wilds and those wilds’ reels also carry multipliers, everything is added and applied to the line win, and the reel then inherits the combined multiplier on top of its current one.
That inheritance is the round’s engine. A big line doesn’t just pay, it makes the reel more dangerous for the next one, and the multipliers can climb spin by spin. Wins compound this way.
Scatters landing during the round each add one free spin. The round plays at the bet that triggered it, and it can’t be retriggered as such: the extra spins come only from scatters landing inside it. A round that keeps feeding itself scatters can run well past its original length.
The round runs like this, spin by spin:
- Scatters land and each stamps a multiplier onto its reel
- Wilds arriving on a multiplied reel absorb that reel’s multiplier
- A winning line through wilds and multiplied reels adds the multipliers and pays the line at the combined figure
- The reel keeps the full combined multiplier for the spins that follow
Super Free Spins
Five scatters unlock Super Free Spins, awarding 10 spins. Reels assign multipliers and wilds appear more often than in the standard round. That’s the whole difference, and it’s a meaningful one: the round’s whole payoff lives in wilds landing on multiplied reels, and more wilds means more chances for the inheritance chain to run.
Our Honest Verdict
Overall Rating: 7.2/10
This is a waiting game in a beautiful room. Most spins are small change or nothing, and the reason anybody sits through that is the wild: when one arrives carrying a number, the whole picture changes in a single symbol. The neon lounge and its carved-eye frame do honest work keeping the dead stretches interesting.
The best thing here is that the free spins build something. Reels inherit the multipliers they’ve already paid out, so a round gathers momentum instead of resetting on every spin. The worst thing is how thin the base game’s own payouts are once the wilds stay away, with most of the ladder sitting at sums a single spin barely notices.
If you want steady action and regular features, this one will frustrate you. For players who enjoy a patient build with one well-made mechanic at the end of it, the host in the headphones has a seat saved.
