Vampires: Blood Moon Slot Review
A huge pale moon hangs behind the castle’s spires, bats strung across it like ash, red light burning in the arched windows. Vampires: Blood Moon is one of the few Gothic slots where the dressing and the maths are the same idea: two golden coffins stand at the top of the reels, and nearly every base game spin feeds one of them. Booming Games have built the collection meters to look like the cast.
What those coffins do is the interesting part. Vampires: Blood Moon runs on a 5×4 grid with 30 fixed paylines, and its bonus round banks every wild you land for one final spin under the moon. Sister titles like Bang Bang Reloaded and Raccoon Raiders show the studio’s range, but neither leans on atmosphere the way this one does. Wait for the moon, and the moon pays.
Base Game & Features
The base game plays out across five reels and four rows, with 30 paylines that are fixed and can’t be adjusted. Wins pay left to right, and only the highest combination on each line counts. It’s a traditional setup, and the game doesn’t dress it up as anything else.
Wilds substitute for other symbols to complete wins, and they matter far more in the bonus round than they do here. The base game’s real job is feeding the two coffins that frame the reels, and each one gathers a different currency as you play. The Ruby Coffin on one side collects coins. The Emerald Coffin on the other collects scatters.
Moon Collection
Coin symbols land on reels one, two, three and four, each carrying a bet multiple that’s collected into the Ruby Coffin. The collection can trigger at any time, so a coffin that’s filling up doesn’t wait for a spin count or a milestone. To actually bank the displayed values, a Collect symbol has to land on reel five.
That fifth-reel gate is the mechanic’s whole tension. Coins without a Collect are promise without payment. The sixteen possible values run from single-digit pocket change right up to fifty times your stake:
- 1x the bet amount
- 2x, 3x, 5x and 8x the bet amount
- 10x, 12x, 15x and 18x the bet amount
- 20x, 25x and 30x the bet amount
- 35x, 40x and 45x the bet amount
- 50x the bet amount
Those are bet multiples, not credits, so a Ruby Coffin holding the top coins when a Collect finally lands is a serious return. The values shown on the reels are what the coffin pays out. Alongside all this, the Emerald Coffin quietly gathers scatter symbols towards the free spins.
Vampires: Blood Moon Free Spins & Blood Moon Spin
Three scatter symbols on reels one, three and five award 15 free spins. The Emerald Coffin’s scatter collection can also trigger the round at any time, so you don’t have to wait for all three to land on a single spin. The round can’t be retriggered, so what you get at the start is what you play.
Those 15 spins carry four distinct mechanics, and they stack on each other as the round runs:
- Minor symbols that win are eliminated for the rest of the round
- Eliminations and wild-minor wins both trigger cascading tiles
- Major symbols in winning combinations upgraded to golden versions paying double
- Every wild that lands is collected for the final Blood Moon Spin
Minor Elimination
When minor symbols form a win during free spins, they’re eliminated from the reels for the rest of the round and trigger cascading tiles in their place. Wild symbols that win alongside minor symbols trigger the cascades too, even when the wild itself is doing the paying. The effect compounds with every elimination.
There’s no coming back, either. An eliminated minor symbol stays gone for the remaining spins, so by the later part of the round the reels are filling with the symbols that matter. The order you win them in doesn’t matter; the first minor win starts the strip-down, and every one after it widens the gap.
Major Upgrade
Major symbols in winning combinations upgrade to golden versions that pay double their regular value. Once upgraded, the regular version doesn’t reappear for the remaining free spins, so an early golden major keeps earning at double for the rest of the round rather than for one win.
The two mechanics point the same direction. Every win, whether it’s a minor paying its last round or a major turning gold, leaves the gameboard better than it found it. By spin fifteen, the reel set has been rebuilt in your favour.
The Blood Moon Spin
This is the round’s payoff, and the reason the free spins are worth reaching. Every wild that lands during free spins is collected and stored, up to a maximum of 20 wilds, with the count resetting at the start of each round. Stored wilds do nothing while the spins run; they’re banked, not spent.
After the 15 spins finish, the collected wilds are added back to the gameboard, including reel one, without overlapping, for one final Blood Moon Spin. A board carrying up to twenty stored wilds on a 5×4 grid is a genuinely loaded final spin, and it’s the mechanic the whole round is built to feed.
Bonus Buy
If you’d rather skip the wait, the bonus can be bought outright for 75x your bet, and the purchase guarantees the feature triggers. The buy button sits in the bottom-left corner of the play frame as a coin icon. Buying doesn’t change anything about how the round runs; it just skips the coffin-filling.
Given that the round can’t be retriggered, 75x buys you exactly one pass through everything above:
- 15 free spins, no retrigger
- Minor Elimination and cascading tiles for the rest of the round
- Major Upgrade to golden, double-paying symbols
- The final Blood Moon Spin with every wild collected
Our Honest Verdict
Overall Rating: 7.8/10
Most of a session here is a long walk through the graveyard: you’re filling coffins, and the walk is the point as much as the destination. The reason somebody picks this one over a dozen other Gothic slots is that it ends with a proper finish rather than fading out, and the night is built to get darker and better as it goes.
That ending is its strength. The round improves as it runs, because every win removes something cheap or doubles something good, and the collected wilds give the last spin real weight. The weakness is the stretch between endings. The base game is two collection meters and a fifth-reel gate, and it doesn’t offer much to hold onto while you wait.
This suits players who enjoy a build with a fixed payoff and don’t need a round that retrigger’s itself into another hour. It’s a weaker fit for anyone who wants frequent bonus hits or steady base game action. If you like your slots patient, Gothic and built to finish strong, the moon over this castle is worth sitting under.
