Witches Wild Fortune Slot Review
Witches Wild Fortune is a slot built backwards, and it’s the better for it. The base game is deliberately spare: a 5×3 grid, witches, cats, potions and cauldrons on the reels, and small wins that exist to keep the balance breathing while you wait for three pumpkins. Boomerang has put everything into that one round, and the spec sheet agrees with the design: 96.1% RTP, high volatility, a hit frequency of 29.93% (about one spin in three connects), and stakes from 0.10 to 75.
It shares its engine with 3 Wonders Mystic Howl, and the family resemblance shows in the free spins, where three modifiers can stack on top of each other. Elemental Forces Embers and Knight’s Gold Rush 3 Cycle carry the same DNA. The interesting question here is whether the witchy dressing earns its place over any of them.
Base Game & Features
The reels carry six themed symbols alongside the usual low-paying royals, and the split between them is a conventional one: characters and artefacts up top, card values underneath. The full symbol set looks like this:
- Witches
- Black cats
- Potions
- Cauldrons
- Skulls
- Candles
Wins form on the standard 5×3 layout, with five reels and three rows. Payouts follow the usual pattern for a high volatility release: most connecting wins are small relative to stake. Three potions on a line, for instance, pays 0.30x the total bet, so the low symbols exist to keep the balance moving rather than to pay for the session.
The symbols are there to connect and nothing more. The game’s real interest sits behind the pumpkins, and everything on the base reels serves that one doorway.
Wild Symbols
Wilds land only on the middle reels, and they substitute for every symbol except the bonus pumpkin. Because they’re confined to the centre of the grid, no wild combination can pay on its own; their job is to bridge the character symbols across the reels. They show up in the base game and again in free spins, where they behave rather differently.
Bonus Symbol
The scatter is a pumpkin marked BONUS, and it’s the only symbol the base game is really building towards. Three of them open the free spins round, which is where every modifier this game owns lives. Beyond the wilds and the pumpkins, there’s nothing running in the background between rounds: no collection meter, no random modifiers, no respins. The base game is plain spinning, and it doesn’t hide that.
What that means in practice is a simple rhythm. Set the stake, spin, and watch for two things: a wild bridging the middle reels, or a pumpkin drifting in. Everything else on the screen is decoration waiting for one of those two events. The themed symbols still pay when they connect, but the wins are small, and the game makes no secret of where its real work happens.
Witches Wild Fortune Free Spins
Three bonus pumpkins trigger the round, known here as 3 Wonders Free Spins. The name is the giveaway: the round runs on three modifiers that can each be in play, and they’re the whole reason this slot exists as more than a themed five-reeler. In short:
- Symbol Upgrade – low symbols may upgrade to high symbols
- Lock in Reel – the same symbols land on all locked reels, with up to five reels locked
- Expanding Wild – a wild spreads to every position in the same reel
Each is worth understanding on its own, because they don’t all pull in the same direction.
Symbol Upgrade
When this modifier is active, any low symbol on the reels may arrive as its high-symbol equivalent instead. A royal that would have paid pennies becomes a character symbol, which quietly rewires what the reels are worth while the upgrade is in play. The step matters more than it sounds: an upgraded position doesn’t just pay better, it can also complete a match that the un-upgraded symbol would have missed.
It doesn’t change how many positions match, only what those positions are worth when they do. Of the three modifiers, this is the one doing steady work rather than spectacular work, and it’s the modifier that decides how much a lucky spin actually collects.
Lock in Reel
Locked reels show the same symbols across every locked position, and up to five reels can lock at once. The progression is what gives the round its shape: one locked reel is a curiosity, two or three start matching positions across the grid, and all five locked means every visible position on the screen carries the same symbol.
When that happens, the round pays on the strength of whichever symbol filled the lock. It’s the bluntest of the three modifiers and the one with the clearest ceiling: a full lock is either a screen of high symbols or it isn’t.
Expanding Wild
Wilds that land during the round expand to fill every position on their reel. A single wild in the middle of the grid becomes a stacked wild covering all three rows at once, standing in for any symbol down the whole reel. The base game wild bridges one row; the free spins wild bridges all three.
Combined with a locked reel elsewhere, one expanding wild can turn a single spin into a full-screen arrangement, and the upgrade modifier decides how much that arrangement is worth. The three modifiers don’t compete with each other; they compound.
Our Honest Verdict
Overall Rating: 7/10
Playing this is mostly sitting by the cauldron waiting for the pumpkins, and the reason to choose it is that the wait has a proper payoff waiting behind it. That’s the honest shape of the game: long stretches of very little, then a round that can suddenly matter.
The strength is that the free spins round genuinely compounds. A full wild reel inside a set of locked reels pays on whatever the upgrades turned those symbols into, so one good round can build a win three separate modifiers had a hand in. Very few bonus rounds reward their own luck quite so directly.
The weakness is everything before that. The base game gives you wilds, pumpkins and nothing else, and you’re spinning towards a maximum win of 3,198x the stake. That’s fine for players who like a slow build towards one loaded feature. If you want something happening on most spins, this cauldron takes too long to bubble.
