Knight’s Gold Rush 3 Cycle Slot Review
Most free spins rounds are something that happens to you. Knight’s Gold Rush 3 Cycle hands you the controls before a single bonus spin lands, and that choice is the entire reason to load it up. Boomerang have built a game where the dragon wild is dull company in normal play and the star of the show the moment you get to decide what it becomes.
Underneath that sits a conventional 5×3 grid with 25 paylines, a 96% RTP and medium-high volatility. Wins land on roughly 32% of spins, which is a fair clip for a game at this end of the volatility scale. The maximum win comes in at 5,762x the stake.
Base Game & Features
The base game is a straightforward 25-line affair. Five reels, three rows, wins paid left to right on adjacent reels, and only the highest combination on each line counts. Nothing in the reel mechanics will surprise anyone who has played a line slot before, and that’s fine. The character of the game comes entirely from its symbols.
- Grid: 5×3, five reels and three rows
- Paylines: 25 fixed lines, wins left to right
- Line rule: only the highest combination per line pays
- RTP: 96%
- Volatility: medium-high
- Hit frequency: 31.95%, roughly one win in three spins
The wild is a dragon, and it stands in for every symbol except the Bonus symbol. That’s the whole of its job in the base game. It becomes far more interesting once the free spins kick in, because every modifier on offer in that round is a different way of supercharging the dragon.
Bonus symbols land on the reels as scatters, and three or more of them open the free spin round. During normal play the dragon wild is what you’re watching for, since it completes lines the base symbols can’t.
Wins of that size are the routine output between features. They keep the balance moving without ever threatening anything dramatic. Medium-high volatility means the design isn’t aiming for constant fireworks in normal play. The dragon does the heavy lifting whenever it appears, and the Bonus symbols build towards the round where the game stops being polite.
A BUY BONUS button sits in the bottom-left corner of the base game, so the round can be purchased outright rather than waited for. The roughly one-in-three hit rate keeps the reels ticking over between features. Dry stretches will still come, given the volatility, but they’re punctuated rather than endless.
The scatter count matters beyond the trigger itself. Bonus symbols keep landing after the round is live, appearing on the reels in ordinary play as well, so the game never lets you forget what it’s building towards. Between the dragon wild completing lines and the scatters stacking up, every base game spin has something to watch, even when the pays are small.
Knight’s Gold Rush 3 Cycle Free Spins & Wild Modifiers
Three or more Bonus symbols trigger the Free Spin Selection Feature. This is the round that defines the game. Rather than awarding a fixed free spins package, it opens a selection screen with a choice of three wild modifiers, each on its own coloured banner.
- Expand Wild – a purple banner marked with a flame icon
- Contagious Wild – a red banner marked with a swirl icon
- Wild Multiplier – a blue banner marked with a wing icon
The round runs in three steps. Land the scatters, choose a banner, and the modifier you picked governs how the dragon wild behaves for the duration of the free spins. Each one answers the same question differently: how much damage can one wild symbol do?
Contagious Wild spreads wild behaviour across the reels, with the modifier’s label shown active while it runs. It’s the choice for turning isolated dragon appearances into something contagious, where a single wild landing can carry a whole spin. The red banner makes no secret of being the aggressive option.
Wild Multiplier takes the other route, boosting line wins that pass through the dragon. A three-symbol win on line five paid 0.8x the bet at a doubled rate with Contagious Wild active, against 0.2x for the same shape of win on line one elsewhere. Four times the return on a near-identical line is the difference a modifier makes.
Expand Wild rounds out the set as the third route to the same goal: more dragon coverage across the 5×3 grid. Where Contagious Wild spreads and Wild Multiplier boosts, Expand Wild simply makes the dragon bigger, occupying more of the three rows. A taller wild touches more of the 25 lines at once, so a single expansion can turn a dead spin into several simultaneous pays.
The choice is genuine rather than cosmetic, since each modifier changes which spins pay and by how much. Picking between them is the game’s one real decision, and it’s a better one than most slots offer. The dragon behaves differently under each banner, and the three banners are the whole reason the round is worth reaching.
Bonus Buy
The base game’s BUY BONUS button bypasses the scatter wait entirely and takes you straight to the selection screen. The buy menu sits alongside the stake controls, so the round can be entered at whatever stake is currently set.
From there the round plays out exactly as it would after a natural trigger. The same three banners appear, the same choice is yours, and the dragon wild behaves the same way under whichever modifier you land on. The only difference is how you got there.
Our Honest Verdict
Overall Rating: 7.1/10
Playing this is a long march to the castle gates. You grind through a plain 25-line base game watching for scatters, and everything you came for sits behind the drawbridge. The one reason to make the march is that the reward isn’t just a bonus round, it’s your bonus round: the dragon you pick is the one you ride.
The strength is that the three-way choice makes the same round play three different ways, so it stays interesting well past the first trigger. The weakness is the wait itself. Between bonuses the base game pays pennies and gives you nothing to do but watch, and this quest gives you a lot of walking and not much scenery.
It suits anyone who enjoys a bonus round with a decision in it and doesn’t mind paying for the scenery with their patience. Anyone who wants the base game itself to entertain will find the march too long. For the rest, the gold at the end of this cycle is real enough, and you get to choose its shape.
