Respin Feature

Each time a winning cluster forms, instead of the symbols being removed, they are held in place whilst all other symbols Respin. Respins will continue as long as additional matching symbols enlarge the existing cluster or a new cluster is formed.

During this time, additional Feature symbols can land, triggering features that can improve or enlarge clusters. When a feature symbol lands and there is more than one cluster present, it will choose a cluster at random to apply its feature on.

• Candy Cannon – Awards between 2 and 8 matching symbols to a cluster.
• Sweet Upgrade – Upgrades the chosen cluster and all matching symbols to the next highest-paying symbol value.
• Candy Cluster – Symbols that match the chosen cluster on the same reel/row are added to the cluster.

At the start of each spin, a random feature can be awarded. If a random feature forms a win or enlarges a winning cluster, the spin will continue.

Sweet Surprise

During gameplay, a 2×2, 3×3, or 4×4-sized Mystery symbol can be added to the grid area. This will reveal a random High or Low-paying symbol or Coin.

Lucky Respin

At the end of any game round, a Lucky Respin can be triggered. Once active, all symbol positions Horizontally, Vertically, and Diagonally will respin around the active Cluster.

Cluster Combo

Clusters of a different symbol type that are Horizontally or Vertically adjecent to each other can combine to form a larger cluster. The cluster will always combine into the highest-value symbol before each spin.

Candy Coin Respin

The Candy Coin Respins feature activates when a cluster of coin symbols forms on the grid area. Each coin symbol displays a Multiplier value between 1x and 1,000x your bet.

The cluster that forms the win will be held in position whilst all other symbols Respin. During the Respin, only Coin and Feature symbols are present. This feature works in the same manner as the Respin feature, adding coins, upgrading coins, and attracting coins into a cluster.

Also present are the Sweet Surprise and Lucky Respin features, allowing for a chance to continue when the round ends. This feature continues as long as the coin cluster continues to enlarge.

Free Spins

Collecting 3, 4, 5, 6, or 7 Scatters in any one spin during the base game triggers the Free Spins round, awarding 5, 6, 7, 8, or 9 Free Spins respectively.

During Free Spins, the Candy Cannon, Sweet Upgrade, and Candy Cluster features can be upgraded. A random feature is upgraded and +1 additional Free Spin is awarded for every 5 Respins. When all features reach their max level, +1 additional Free Spin continues to be awarded for every 5 Respins.

Sweetopia Royale: Our Verdict

Relax Gaming consistently demonstrates their prowess, and though cluster pays isn’t their go-to, they’ve proven themselves very proficient with them when they care to make them. Sweetopia Royale is quite harmonious and well-rounded, with features that create a rather dynamic experience.

One such feature is the Candy Coin respin. The concept isn’t entirely new, and we’d compare it more to Push Gaming’s Retro Tapes before any standard Hold and Win round. Landing coins within a cluster can make it more difficult to form winning combinations, but Relax Gaming addresses the issue with additional features like Lucky-Respin and Candy Cannon, which collectively maintain the game’s momentum.

This is a welcome safety net, but it doesn’t always trigger when no additional coins land within the cluster. We had mixed results with this feature, but some disappointing outcomes are expected, such is the nature of slots. Overall, it feels pretty exciting, but no more so than the main event – Free Spins. Free Spins showcases the features brilliantly and momentum can build quickly with huge clusters and big wins.

The seemingly modest features work seamlessly together to transform Sweetopia into a game with considerable potential, though it’s not quite as capable as we’d have hoped. 5,000x is the maximum win here, which seems rather small as we roll with the times. 10,000x seems to be the new standard for some reason, but 5,000x will still look attractive enough.

Overall, Sweetopia Royale isn’t a statement piece from Relax Gaming, but it’s a compelling addition to their portfolio.
