Legion X Slot Review 2021

Join the Legion and hold the line in Nolimit City’s latest instalment, Legion X

Legion X is Nolimit City’s penultimate instalment for this year, with just True Grit to follow in mid-December. Legion X has suffered from a couple of delays, but we’re heavily in favour of a delayed release date if it means that the finished product is of a quality standard, which is something that we’ve come to fully expect from Nolimit City having made some serious noise this year with their incredible instalments.

2021 seems to have been a year of transformation for Nolimit City, and they’re not done yet. In Legion X we join the Imperial Roman Army for war on land, sea and horseback.

How will Legion X compare to the shocker that was Mental? or the fan favourite that is xWays Hoarders xSplit?

Get ready for war and develop a taste for blood as we head into this Legion X slot review to see what Nolimit City has dreamed up this time.

Legion X Base

Legion X Slot Theme

Legion X paints a daunting picture of war with its dark and ominous theme. Barbarians and Romans go head to head here and the bodies are piling up in a battle for the ages.

The dramatic music is befitting of a war-like theme, and the blood-soaked border, shields and helmets beside the reel build intensity for an unrelenting battle.

When we sing their praises about how Nolimit City has progressed this year we’re not talking about gameplay alone; the graphical and audio aspects of their games has dramatically improved also. Legion X is top-notch in both respects here, with graphics and sounds that immerse you within the world they’ve created.

In our eyes, few providers nurture their creations as lovingly as Nolimit City. This nurturing may result in a slot with controversial, disturbing or downright gory graphics, but their determination to stand out and their ability to deliver doesn’t go unnoticed.

Legion X: Betting and Symbols

It’s pretty standard business when it comes to the betting options available here. The lowest option is £/€0.20 per spin, and the highest option is £/€100 per spin. There are plenty of different options in between the two, and some casinos may lower the maximum available bet, but there’s something for everyone here whichever way you look at it.

When it comes to symbols, the highest paying symbols in Legion X are the Warrior Symbols, and low paying symbols are Ace, King, Queen, Jack & 10.

There’s also Wild Symbols, Infectious xWays, Infectious Wilds and xNudge symbols, more on how they work below.

Legion X: The Base Game and Features

Nolimit City never really opt for simplicity in their slots, at least not lately. Seemingly every one of them takes a little bit of thought to comprehend, and Legion X is no different.

Piece by piece lets talk about how Legion X works, and what it means in terms of potential.

Legion X is a 5 reel slot with a standard 2-3-2-3-2 set up with 72 win ways by default. To form a win, you’ll need at least 3 of any symbol to connect from left to right on adjacent reels, starting from the left-most reel. Payout potential for symbol connections on their own aren’t exactly formidable on their own, but Nolimit City has once again included some of their trademarked features, which really improves the potential.

Legion X Base Game

xNudge Wilds

xNudge Wilds are a recognisable feature seen previously in many a Nolimit City slot.

xNudge Wilds are fully stacked symbols, and if they land partially in view then they’ll nudge up or down until fully visible on the reel. Each Nudge increases the multiplier by 1, and several will add together for a total Wild Multiplier. If xNudge Wild Symbols lands on the same reel as an Infectious xWays symbol, then the affected symbol will first expand before the xNudge Wild does its thing. This creates the possibility for highest multipliers due to how the xWays symbol increases the ways, and therefore the nudges on that reel.

Infectious Wilds

Infectious Wilds may only land on the first and last reel, and it works sort of like the Marhsall Badge in Deadwood does.

Landing one of these symbols will convert all instances of a randomly selected low paying symbol into a Wild symbol on the middle three reels, and landing 2 of them converts all low paying symbols to wilds. This is actually a big improvement on how it worked previously. Deadwood required both symbols to land to do anything, but at least you get a consolation of sorts with one symbol.

xWays

The xWays symbol may only land on the first and last reel also.

The xWays symbols will transform into any other symbol, with the exception of Wild of Scatter Symbols. This symbol reveals 2-4 of the same symbol, which increases the win ways.

If you land one xWays symbol, it will only reveal on the landing position, but if you land two symbols then it will trigger Infectious xWays. When Infectious xWays is triggered, any symbols of the same type within the middle reels will also expand to the same size as the xWays symbol.

Both xWays and Infectious xWays are features that we’ve seen before, and we love them. They’re truly timeless features, and Nolimit City does well in integrating them into whatever slots they feature in.

xWays and Infectious Wild

In an interesting little spin, xWays and Infectious Wilds may work together for another feature when you land an xWays and an Infectious Wild symbol on the first and last reels. In this feature, the middle reels are converted into Infectious xWays and Wilds.

Legion X Free Spins

If you thought the Base Game was full of action, wait until you’ve seen the Free Spins modes available here.

Legion X Features 4 different Bonus Rounds, which are obtainable by landing Scatter Symbols, or a combination of Scatter Symbols and xWays, Infectious Wilds or both.

Let’s start by checking out the first Bonus, Legion X Spins

Legion X Spins

Landing 3 Scatter Symbols will trigger 8 Legion X Spins.

In this mode, the First and Last Reel gains an extra row, and the Win Multiplier from xNudge Wilds remains throughout the Feature.

This is sort of like Gunslinger Spins in Deadwood. This can be a great feature if you can get the Win Multiplier high enough. In fact, it’s crucial that you do.

From this mode, you can upgrade to an enhanced bonus mode if you land two of the special symbols (xWays or Infectious Wild) on reels 1 or 5 in the same spin.

If you land a single special symbol, then you’ll gain +1 spin.

Legion x Spins

Legion X Equestris Spins

Equestris Spins are triggered by landing 3 Scatters on the middle reels, and an xWays symbol on reels 1 and 5. In this mode, reels 1 and 5 become 4 high, and the Win Multiplier from xNudge Wilds once again persists for the duration of Free Spins.

The xWays Symbols remain sticky in the position they landed in, which triggers Infectious xWays for each spin.

Legion X Equestris Spins

Legion X Fretensis Spins

Fretensis Spins are triggered by landing 3 Scatters on the middle reels, an an Infectious Wild symbol on reels 1 and 5. In this mode, reels 1 and 5 become 4 high, and the Win Multiplier from xNudge Wilds once again persists for the duration of Free Spins.

Infectious Wild Symbosl remain sticky in the position they landed in, converting all Low Paying symbols into Wilds on each spin.

Legion X Fretensis Spins

Legion X Gemina Spins

Gemina Spins is the highest potential bonus in Legion X.

To trigger this, you’ll want 3 Scatters on the middle reels, and an Infectious Wild Symbol and an xWays symbol on reels 1 and 5. 10 Spins are awarded in this mode.

The active game area once again increases to make the first and last reels 4 high, and the xNudge Multiplier once again accumulates and persists.

In this mode, the infectious Wild symbol and the xWays symbol are sticky in the positions that they landed in to convert all low symbols to wild, and to trigger infectious xWays on each and every spin.

No Strength Only Honour

Nolimit City like to make a little bit of a fuss when you win big, but only a very lucky few will see this screen.

This isn’t a feature, but you’ll definitely want to see it because it means you’ve reached the maximum win of 31,000x

This is more of a ‘when’ than an ‘if’ for some lucky players out there. Nolimit City Slots are regularly showing us what they’re made of by reaching their win caps. Will you be the one to see this screen?

Legion X: Our Verdict

Nolimit City has smashed it once more, not that that’s surprising.

We were instantly impressed with Legion X and what it could do, and we were equally as impressed with the theme, design and sounds too. In usual fashion, Nolimit City has packed Legion X full of features, and these features aren’t exclusive to players outside of the UK either.

When you’re talking about Super Bonuses, some providers neglect to think about some regulated markets with features that are downright un-obtainable without a buy, but Nolimit City has once again included a way for these enhanced features to be unlocked during normal bonuses, or landed naturally if you’re super lucky.

You’ll definitely be wanting to see these enhanced features too, because the potential here is formidable because of them. Up to 31,000x is up for grabs in Legion X, which is admittedly less than some of their other slots, but it’s still huge.

Legion X reminded us a lot of Deadwood in some ways, which isn’t a bad thing. It feels like Nolimit City thought about how Deadwood worked and built upon it for a game with similar features on a bigger scale. In terms of complexity, Legion X is quite easy to understand when compared to other mind-boggling slots like Mental.

We don’t think that Legion X will be Nolimit City’s biggest release, but it’s still pretty amazing. It’s got everything you could want in a slot from Base Game Features, to Lots of different Free Spins modes, Bonus Buy and incredible statistics

Overall, we think Legion X is sure to impress. It’s another extreme volatility slot from a provider who continues to shock us all, and another to take its place proudly amidst a portfolio of incredible titles.
