Loki’s Riches – The Base Game and Features
Loki’s Riches is set upon a 7×7 grid of symbols.
All symbols pay in blocks of a minimum of 5 symbols connected horizontally or vertically. Loki’s Riches has a tumble feature, which means that after every spin, winning combinations are paid and all winning symbols disappear. The remaining symbols fall to the bottom of the screen, and empty positions are replaced with new symbols from above.
The tumbles will continue until no more winning combinations appear as a result of a tumble.
Special Expanding Symbol
A symbol in the base game is randomly picked as the Special Expanding Symbol. When that happens, the selected symbol does not explode as part of a tumble win but expands into a group of four symbols of the same type. The expansion happens after all other tumble wins have finished.
By default, it expands right and down. If the symbol is on the bottom position of reel 1 then it will expand right and up instead. If the symbol is on reel 7 and anywhere except the bottom position it will expand left and down, or left and up if the symbol is on the bottom position of reel 7.
Different instances of the symbol expanding can cause them to overlap each other. If this happens, all instances of the symbol in one place are counted as a single win, and more of them together equal bigger wins.
Loki’s Riches – Free Spins
Hit 4 or more scatter symbols on the reels to trigger Free Spins. 10 free Spins are awarded, and before the round begins one paying symbol is selected randomly to function as the Special Expanding Symbol for the duration of the round. 4 or more Scatter symbols anywhere on the screen will retrigger the bonus, awarding an additional 10 free spins.
Bonus Buy
Those outside of the UK will be able to buy a bonus on Loki’s Riches. The cost for this is 100x the total bet, and 4 or more Scatter Symbols can hit randomly
Loki’s Riches – Our Verdict
Loki’s Riches comes with a max win of 10,000x, making it quite a capable slot. However, it doesn’t feel all that capable. Loki’s Riches features the special expanding symbol, which feels exciting when the momentum ramps up, but it doesn’t give much of anything else.
Gem’s Bonanza stands out as one of Pragmatic Play’s best when it comes to grid slots, and that came with lots of different features, making it a very diverse game. Others weren’t so packed full of features, but the likes of Gates of Olympus and variants of it were carried with multipliers of varying amounts, making it an exciting game in its own right. Loki’s Riches feels a little dry, and it could have done with some extra bells and whistles to bolster its appeal.
The awarded symbol also plays a part on whether Loki’s Riches gets the heart racing, and if it’s a low paying symbol then the morale going into the bonus round is fairly low.
Overall, Loki’s Riches can perform and we don’t doubt it’ll have its fair share of fans, but we don’t think it’ll take a place in the Pragmatic Play Hall of Fame.
