Crimson Moon Slot Review
Under a huge pale moon, crows scatter across a gothic city skyline while a masked heroine in a crimson coat watches the reels from a lit alcove. Most comic-styled slots phone the artwork in and lean on the features; Crimson Moon does the reverse, delivering pulp noir illustration you’d happily frame while asking you to wait patiently for almost everything it pays.
It’s Infinity Dragon Studios‘ take on the genre: a 5×3 grid, 25 fixed paylines, high volatility and a 96.08% RTP, with a 12,650x max win doing the heavy lifting. The studio’s back catalogue runs along similar lines, from Black Sails Wild Seas to Zeus Lightning Riches Power Combo and the superb Destiny Joker Megaways.
Base Game & Features
This is a straightforward five-reel, three-row slot. Wins run left to right across 25 fixed paylines, only the highest combination pays per line, and line wins are multiplied by the bet per line. It’s a conventional engine, and the game doesn’t dress it up as anything else.
The stake arithmetic is a little unusual. Each spin costs a total bet, but the paytable works off a line bet: divide the total by 10 to get it. So a 1.00 total bet pays the symbol values below at 0.10 per line, which is why five Enforcers won’t return 25.00 in full.
Bets run from 0.10 to 20.00 per spin. The total payout for any spin is the sum of all payline wins and Scatter wins combined.
The Wild is the Hero symbol, male or female depending on your Character Select choice, and it substitutes for everything except the Link&Win™ and Scatter symbols. You can swap your hero at any time from the game menu, which changes nothing but the artwork on the reel. Wilds can appear on any reel.
The paytable is a pulp cast, and the four premiums are where the personality sits:
- Man/Enforcer: 2.00 / 5.00 / 25.00 for three, four, five
- Joker: 1.20 / 2.50 / 15.00
- Hummer/Vehicle: 1.00 / 2.00 / 10.50
- Hazmat Barrel: 0.80 / 1.50 / 7.50
The Scatter is the Free Spins symbol, and it only appears on reels two, three and four. Three of them pay 1x the total bet from any position and trigger the bonus round, with the win added on top of any line wins from the same spin. Scatters can’t be substituted by Wilds.
A four-tier prize ladder sits permanently on the base-game screen, tracking the Mini, Minor, Major and Mega values as you play. It’s a quiet reminder of where the real money lives, because none of the paytable symbols come close to the ladder’s top rung.
Win Booster™
Win Booster™ is an optional base-game toggle that adds extra Link&Win™ symbols to the reels, raising the chance of triggering the feature. It doesn’t come cheap: the boosted bet is your current bet plus an extra bet equal to 2.5x it, charged on every spin while it’s active.
The return moves to 96.33% with the Booster active. You can switch it on or off in the base game whenever you like, so the commitment isn’t permanent, only expensive. At the 20.00 top stake, that’s an extra 50.00 per spin for the privilege.
Crimson Moon Bonuses: Link&Win™ and Free Spins
Link&Win™
Land six to 14 Link&Win™ symbols anywhere on the reels and the feature begins. Every triggering symbol locks in place and the rest of the board is cleared for respins, which run on special reels containing nothing but Link&Win™ symbols and blank positions.
You start with three respins. Each unlocked position spins individually, and any new Link&Win™ symbol that lands locks and resets the counter back to three. The round ends when the respins run out or all 15 positions fill.
Each symbol reveals a Cash or Bonus Prize when it locks. The ladder looks like this, at a bet of 1.00:
- MEGA: 5,000x, awarded only for filling all 15 positions
- MAJOR: 750x, paid per symbol it appears on
- MINOR: 150x, paid per symbol
- MINI: 50x, paid per symbol
That per-symbol rule is the interesting part: land three Major symbols and you collect the Major prize three times, stacked on top of the cash values. Fill the board and the Mega is added to the sum of everything already collected. Link&Win™ can trigger in the base game and in Free Spins, and Wilds can’t stand in for its symbols.
Free Spins
Three Scatters award 10 free spins plus a 1x total bet payout. The twist is the Super Block: the centre three reels merge into a single 3×3 block that lands as one giant symbol but counts as nine individual ones.
Because the block counts as nine symbols, a Link&Win™ Super Block during the round can hand the respin feature most of a full board in one hit. That’s the interaction the bonus round is built around, and it’s a good one.
A Scatter Super Block is worth 10 additional free spins and another 1x total bet, so the round retriggers from its own centrepiece. Bets and the Win Booster™ state are locked to the triggering spin throughout, so choose your settings before you land the Scatters.
Our Honest Verdict
Overall Rating: 7/10
Playing Crimson Moon is mostly watching a beautiful machine do very little. The city never stops looking gorgeous, and the base game hums along on small change while you wait for the ladder to open, which is the one reason you’d pick it: everything routes through Link&Win™, and the round itself is a proper event when it finally arrives.
The per-symbol jackpot rule is what makes that round worth waiting for: three Major symbols in a single feature pay three times over, so a board that looks modest can quietly out-earn a flashier one. The weakness is everything outside that round. The premium paytable barely registers at the line bet the game actually charges, and the Booster’s 2.5x surcharge buys a quarter-point of RTP, which is hard to defend.
This is a game for players who enjoy the wait itself: one feature, one ladder, high volatility holding the door. Anyone who wants variety or frequent bonuses will find the night long here. But if a single, well-built respin round under a full moon sounds like a good evening, Crimson Moon delivers exactly that.
