Grimm’s Bounty: Hansel & Gretel is the latest work from PGSoft, where players must work together to break the witch’s curse and unlock the Grimm’s bounty. Slots like this one, with a spin on a popular children’s fairytale, are not as uncommon as you’d think.
Software developers like Quickspin & Light & Wonder have revisited the tale of the 3 Little Pigs and Little Red Riding Hood (among others) in Big Bad Wolf Megaways and Happily Ever After.
Hansel and Gretel is a classic German fairytale by the Brothers Grimm, which tells the story of two abandoned children who find a candy house in the forest, and end up being captured by a wicked (and ravenous) witch.
In PGSoft’s take on this story, it seems that Hansel & Gretel, now grown up, are back to finish the job, once and for all, but will they be successful? With a fixed RTP of 96.75% and a high volatility score, up to 10,000x in max win potential can be won.

Base Game & Features
Grimm’s Bounty: Hansel & Gretel is the latest high volatility release from PGSoft, featuring 3 reels, 5 rows, and up to 125 ways to win. Winning combinations occur when 3 identical symbols land on adjacent reels, starting from reel 1.
Of the 10 paytable symbols, the highest-paying falls to Muriel the Witch, followed by Hansel, Gretel, Cupcakes, and Bread as the remaining high-paying symbols. Other symbols include A, K, Q, J, & 10 card suits, awarding payouts between 1x and 20x your bet.
Additionally, Wild symbols, displayed as a crockpot, appear on all reels and substitute for all symbols except Scatters. Alternatively, Scatter symbols are responsible for triggering the Free Spins mode, awarding 20x, 50x, & 200x your bet for 3, 4, or 5.
Lastly, the Avalanche Feature guarantees to remove all winning symbols from the reels, causing new symbols to drop in from above. This enables additional win evaluations to take place within a single spin.
Respin & Multiplier Collection
To the left and right of the main reel set are special Respin & Multiplier Collection Meters. The Respin Meter (red) starts each session at 0, increasing by +1 for every 5 low-paying winning symbols collected.
When all 5 Respin positions are filled in a single spin, a Respin is guaranteed to trigger, where a new drop of symbols, with the current Multiplier, is awarded. Please note that multiple Respins can be triggered within the same spin
The rightmost Collection Meter awards a Global Multiplier, starting at x1. When this meter is filled with 5 high-paying winning symbols, the Global Multiplier will increase by +x1. After this, all consecutive wins in the same spin will be multiplied by the corresponding Global Multiplier before being reset with the next spin.
Grimm’s Bounty: Hansel & Gretel Free Spins
The Free Spins mode is triggered when 3, 4, or 5 Scatters appear anywhere in the base game, awarding 8 Free Spins and a payout of 20x, 50x, and 200x your bet, respectively.
At the start of this feature, the Respin Meter is reset to 0, while the Global Multiplier begins at x2. After each win evaluation, all low-paying winning symbols are collected to the left, while all winning high-paying symbols are collected to the right.
For every 4 low-paying winning symbols, the Respin increases by +1. However, for every 4 high-paying winning symbols, the Global Multiplier increases by +x2. If no winning combinations occur and there are outstanding Respins on the meter, they will be instantly awarded.
Each winning combination that is awarded is guaranteed to be multiplied by the current Global Multiplier. At the end of each spin, +1 Free Spin will be awarded for each Scatter symbol that hits the reels.
Our Honest Verdict
If a children’s novelist wrote a story about a cannibalistic witch in this day and age, it probably wouldn’t make it to print. Back then, though, it was just an innocent children’s bedtime story that parents told to help their children fall asleep; however, we can’t imagine it being told often now.
PGSoft keeps the fire burning on this classic tale by adapting the storyline into their latest release, Grimm’s Bounty: Hansel & Gretel. While Hansel & Gretel are not quite as little as they once were, they’re part of a bigger story now, one that puts an end to the witch, once and for all.
Grimm’s Bounty: Hansel & Gretel is a charming addition to PGSoft’s growing portfolio, offering engaging features, upgraded statistics, and high-quality graphics and sound effects. Consistent in all PGSoft releases is a special Mobile-Friendly interface, which is adopted in this release.
Although it’s not the most attractive layout on desktop, it works wonders on mobile devices, highlighting intricate areas that would usually go unnoticed in a standard Video Slot. This, tied in with the creative artwork, makes this game a pleasant option for a wide range of players.
Throughout the base game, players can enjoy a Respin & Multiplier Collection Feature, similar to the Multiplier & Mystery Reveal meters in Relax Gaming’s Templar Tumble 2 Dream Drop.
The game’s high and low-paying symbols play an important role in activating them, but only when they create a winning combination. With 5 winning symbols needed per meter, the limited reels do not make it easy; however, there’s plenty of space on the 5 rows to land multiple winning instances.
As expected, triggering the Respins Meter is much easier than the Global Multiplier Meter, due to the need for low-paying winning symbols rather than high-paying symbols. Low-paying wins are much more consistent on the reels than high-paying payouts, it seems, but it’s the Global Multiplier you need to upgrade if you’re to benefit from higher payouts.
During Free Spins, the individual Meters only require 4 winning symbols to achieve a Respin or Global Multiplier upgrade. While that’s all well and good, to our disappointment, the Global Multiplier resets between each Free Spin and Respin. In other news, the Free Spins mode can be rather long-winded due to the build-up of Respins, but the 10,000x max win potential makes it all worthwhile.
