Mega Moolah Megaways Slot Review
A striped red-and-gold sunburst fans out behind four stacked jackpot plaques, like a carnival wheel half-buried in the veldt. Mega Moolah Megaways is a strange kind of remake, because Gameburger Studios has taken the most famous jackpot brand in slots and buried it inside a machine game: the prize ladder is still the whole point, but you now have to feed it wilds on an Extra Reel to have a shot. That’s more work than the original ever asked of anyone.
It’s a high-volatility game on a 6×7 grid with up to 117,649 ways, and stakes run from 0.10 to 20.00 per spin. The studio’s Hyper Strike Cash Megaways and Break Da Bank Again Megaways players will recognise the playbook. The savanna sunset looks the same as it always did. The game underneath it doesn’t.
Base Game & Features
The setting is an African savanna at golden hour, rendered in a warm, syrupy cartoon style. A carved earthenware pot brims with gold coins bottom-left, an acacia canopy leans over the right edge, and the reels sit in a thick varnished timber cabinet under a deep purple banner. It’s a lush, storybook look rather than a photoreal one.
Ways and Paytable
Wins pay left to right on adjacent reels, starting from the leftmost reel, and each reel can carry up to seven symbols. The number of ways changes with every spin as the reel heights shift, and only the highest winning combination pays per way. Symbol pays are quoted as multiples of the initial bet, which is the total bet divided by ten:
- Elephant (framed): 2x for two, 5x for three, 10x for four, 25x for five, 50x for six
- Buffalo: 1x for three, 2x for four, 2.5x for five, 7.5x for six
- Giraffe: 0.3x for three, 1x for four, 1.5x for five, 2x for six
- Zebra: 0.3x for three, 0.6x for four, 0.8x for five, 2x for six
- A and K: 0.2x for three, 0.4x for four, 0.6x for five, 1.8x each for six
- Q: 0.2x for three, 0.3x for four, 0.6x for five, 1x for six
- J: 0.1x for three, 0.3x for four, 0.5x for five, 1x for six
- 10: 0.1x for three, 0.2x for four, 0.5x for five, 0.9x for six
- 9: 0.1x for three, 0.2x for four, 0.4x for five, 0.8x for six
It’s a steep paytable. The framed elephant is worth fifty times the initial bet at six of a kind, while the bottom royals top out under one times. Six of a kind is the only place the elephant’s edge really shows: at three of a kind it pays just five times, and the animal symbols cluster tightly together below it.
Two structural details stand out. The elephant is the only symbol that pays for a two-of-a-kind, at 2x, which softens the drop-off when it lands early on a short chain. And the A and K share a pay row outright, as do the three royals below them in all but their top values, so the lower half of the table is effectively three symbols deep.
Extra Reel
An Extra Reel sits above reels two to five, adding one symbol to each of those reels. It’s always there, in the base game and in free spins, and it’s where the game’s most important symbols live: wilds appear only on the Extra Reel, substitute for everything except scatters, and pay nothing themselves.
Rolling Reels
Rolling Reels are active in both the base game and free spins. Winning symbols are removed after a payout, new symbols drop into the gaps, and any new wins pay again. A single spin can chain several consecutive wins this way, which matters more than it sounds: the free spins multiplier climbs on every roll.
Mega Moolah Megaways Free Spins & Jackpots
The Progressive Wheel
The Progressive Wheel is the jackpot feature, and it’s driven by collection. Every wild that lands feeds the pot, and the fuller the pot, the better the odds of the wheel spinning. Bet size matters too: the bigger the stake, the greater the chance at any given moment.
Timing is strict. The wheel can only trigger once a Rolling Reels sequence has finished, and a wager gets a single spin of it, never more. It’s divided into segments, each tied to one of four progressive jackpots: Mega, Major, Minor and Mini. The segment it lands on decides the prize.
Jackpot wins are available in the base game and in free spins, and if the wheel and free spins trigger together, the wheel plays out first. Its prizes are added on top of any wins already banked from the spin.
One design detail worth knowing: the graphical collection pot on screen is purely for show. It doesn’t influence whether a jackpot is awarded. The jackpots themselves accumulate from a percentage of every wager, are displayed live in the game, and reset to their starting values whenever one is won, anywhere in the world. They’re only available to real-money players.
Free Spins
Landing four gold scatters starts the round with twelve free spins, and each scatter beyond the fourth adds five more to the opening count. Once inside, the Extra Reel matters more than ever: scatters appear only on that single strip during free spins, so every retrigger depends on it.
Three scatters in the round award an additional five free spins; four award ten. The win multiplier starts at one and increments after every roll of the Rolling Reels, and it never resets within the round. A long chain of cascading wins inside a retriggered round is where the biggest non-jackpot money sits.
Bets and ways stay fixed to the triggering spin throughout. There’s no gamble, no pick’em, no side choice: the round runs itself, and the multiplier does the work.
Our Honest Verdict
Overall Rating: 7.1/10
This is a jackpot game wearing a machine game’s clothes, and it takes some getting used to. The reason to choose it is the same as it ever was: four progressive prizes, one of which can change somebody’s life, waiting behind a wheel that fills a little more with every wild. The savanna has never looked cosier.
The strength is the free spins round, because the multiplier never resets, so a run of rolls late in a retriggered round can snowball hard. The weakness is everything else: the paytable is thin below the elephant, so most sessions are a slow grind between wheel triggers.
It suits jackpot hunters happy to feed the pot and wait. Players who want a big-paytable Megaways for its own sake have richer options. The Mega doesn’t care which one you are, and that’s the whole pull.

How does the Progressive Wheel trigger in Mega Moolah Megaways?

No. The multiplier begins at 1x and climbs with each roll of the Rolling Reels, staying put for the whole round. Long cascading chains are therefore where the biggest non-jackpot wins come from.
