Moon Dog Slot Review
A huge pale moon hangs over a scorched red plain, the sky burning orange and crimson around it, with a blazing light crowning the horizon on both sides. Fazi has dressed Moon Dog in a backdrop most studios would save for a flagship, then built a 40-payline classic underneath it that stakes everything on a single symbol: the stacked sun wild is worth five times the best dog on the board, and it’s the only thing on these reels that produces a moment worth remembering.
Underneath the artwork, this is a classic Fazi build: a 5×4 grid, 40 fixed paylines, a stacked sun wild and a free games round that hands out up to 30 spins at a time. Sister titles like Triple Wild Crown, Coin Bank and Extreme Heat 7s give a fair idea of the territory. If the moonlit setting sounds like your kind of evening, the plain stretches out ahead.
Sun Wilds and the 40 Paylines
Wins pay left to right from the leftmost reel, and only the highest win on each selected line is paid. With 40 lines across a 5×4 grid, there’s plenty of room for the dog-themed symbols to line up. The reels carry two dog symbols at the top of the table, an ace, and the four royals below them.
The sun symbol is a stacked wild that appears on all five reels and substitutes for every symbol except the scatter. That’s the whole of its job, and it does it without ceremony. Values for a single line bet:
- Dog pair (tan and brown): 1.00 for three, 4.00 for four, 20.00 for five
- Beagle pair: 1.00 for three, 3.00 for four, 12.00 for five
- A: 0.40 for three, 2.00 for four, 8.00 for five
- 10, J, Q and K: 0.20 for three, 1.00 for four, 5.00 for five
- Sun wild: 2.00 for three, 10.00 for four, 100.00 for five
That last row matters more than it looks. The sun wild is the richest symbol on the board by some distance, and it arrives stacked rather than singly. A full reel of suns can do double duty: completing lines for the dogs and aces while building its own combinations.
Stacked wilds across multiple reels at once is where this game’s biggest base game moments come from. Two adjacent stacks can bridge several paylines in a single spin, and the top prize for five wilds on one line sits at 100.00 on the line bet.
The gap between the dogs and everything else is worth noticing. Five beagles pay 12.00 against the tan pair’s 20.00, while five aces return 8.00 and the royals manage 5.00 at best. Winning combinations need at least three matching symbols, so the royals – four symbols sharing one pay tier – carry most of the small-hit work while the dogs and wilds supply the jumps.
Because only the highest win per line is paid, a line filled with wilds alongside a dog doesn’t stack both prizes – only the higher of the two overlapping wins is paid.
Paw-Print Scatters and Free Games
The scatter is a paw print, and it appears on all reels. Unlike every other symbol, it pays at any position on screen: no payline, no left-to-right requirement. Land three or more and the free games round begins, with the award scaling by count:
- Three scatters: 10 free games
- Four scatters: 20 free games
- Five scatters: 30 free games
The round then plays out as a straight continuation of the base game, same grid, same paylines, same stacked sun wilds. Nothing changes about the reels themselves; the value comes purely from the volume of spins and the fact that no extra stake is taken for any of them. Retriggers work the same way as the original trigger: more paw prints, more games added to the running total.
As in the base game, only the highest win is paid on each selected line, and separately per scatter combination.
Five scatters for 30 games, with stacked wilds live throughout, is a genuinely inviting combination. The free games round is the only feature Moon Dog has, so it’s just as well the ladder climbs as high as it does.
There’s no bonus buy or feature shortcut on offer; the scatter is the only route into the free games. What you see across the 40 lines is what there is: a straight-line classic slot structure with two symbols doing the interesting work, dressed in the best backdrop Fazi could paint.
Our Honest Verdict
Overall Rating: 6.4/10
This is a waiting game under a beautiful sky. You spin, the royals trickle in small, and you’re really there for two things: a reel full of suns, or enough paw prints to start the free games. That burning horizon is the reason anyone picks this one off a crowded shelf.
The free games ladder is the best thing here, because it’s the only place the stacked wilds get 30 free chances to line up, and retriggers can stretch a good round well past where it started. The worst thing is the base game between scatters: with nothing but line wins to fill it, the gaps run long and the dogs pay less than you’d hope.
It suits players who like an honest, simply built slot and don’t need a feature every third spin. Anyone who wants modifiers, buy-ins and layered rounds will find this plain emptier than it looks. For the rest, the moon is bright and the ride is cheap.
