Phoenix Reign Slot Review
A phoenix the size of the reels stands over a pool of molten lava at the left edge of the screen, wings streaming yellow-white fire, while seven scaled dragon eggs wait in a stone lintel above the grid. Phoenix Reign is a slot that gives almost nothing away before its feature: the base game’s modest line wins and the occasional rescuing Respin are just kindling, and everything the game actually has to offer arrives after the phoenix collects.
Wishbone used the same build-and-collect structure in Phoenix Reign of Horror, a 2026 review on this site, and the phoenix here inherits it wholesale. The studio’s catalogue also runs to Dragon PrimeX and Poseidon’s Rage. The maths: a 5×3 grid, 20 fixed paylines, RTP of 96.09%, medium volatility, stakes from 0.20 to 50.00 per spin, and a 5,000x ceiling the whole game is angled towards.
Base Game & Features
Reels sit inside a crumbling stone ruin on a volcanic night, fire-orange bloom against deep blues. Five reels, three rows, and wins that run left to right across 20 fixed paylines. A payline is a fixed pattern of adjacent positions, one line across the reels, and the count can’t be changed.
The total bet is the initial bet multiplied by ten, so the paytable’s figures are quoted against that initial stake. Only the highest combination counts on any single line, and if two combinations land on one payline, the better one wins. Line wins and a bonus can land on the same spin.
Roughly 27.93% of spins produce a win, which keeps the balance ticking over between features. The paytable is top-heavy. Here’s what each symbol pays as a multiple of the initial bet:
- Hourglass: 0.2x for two, 2.5x for three, 10x for four, 100x for five
- Sword: 1.5x for three, 7.5x for four, 50x for five
- Lotus and Mask: 1x for three, 5x for four, 25x for five
- A and K: 0.2x for three, 1x for four, 5x for five
- Q, J and 10: 0.1x for three, 0.4x for four, 2x for five
The Hourglass is the only symbol that pays for two of a kind. Wins that small are really just stake back, so the lower tiers exist to keep the meter moving rather than to pay for the session. The total payout of a spin is the sum of all payline wins, and the displayed win-up-to value is rounded down to roughly the best a single spin can manage.
Scatter Symbol
The Phoenix is the Scatter and can land on any reel. Three of them trigger the Bonus Feature. There’s also a Max Win symbol: landing it together with a single Scatter in the base game awards the full 5,000x. Animations don’t influence trigger chances.
Scatter Respin
Two Scatters without a third isn’t always a dead spin. If both can move down one position without leaving the reel area, a Respin is awarded: the reels holding Scatters drop a row while the rest spin again.
During that Respin, at least one Scatter transforms into a Collector and gathers any Value Symbols in view. The Collect Symbol can also trigger the Bonus Feature. No Respin is awarded if a feature has already been triggered.
Explosions
Randomly, during a Respin or Bonus Spin, an explosion can occur. Every symbol except Scatters and Collect symbols can change into Value or Special Symbols. It’s the game’s way of rescuing a board that had nothing worth collecting.
Phoenix Reign Bonus Spins & Enhancements
Triggering the feature awards 10 Bonus Spins, with a chance to add enhancements before it begins. The round runs on Orbs. Orbs carrying values are Value Symbols, worth from 0.5x to 20x the bet. Orbs carrying Multipliers or Extra Spins are Special Symbols.
The Phoenix is the Collect Symbol. When it appears, it collects every Value and Special Symbol in view and applies any active Multiplier to the total. Winnings are collected automatically at the end of the round, and all bets stay the same as the triggering spin.
A typical spin plays out in three stages. Orbs land and lock where they fall, holding their values on the board. Special Symbols do the same, carrying their Multipliers or Extra Spins as labels. When a Phoenix finally appears, everything in view is swept into one total, the Multiplier is applied, and the board clears for the next spin.
The round ends the moment the win cap is reached. If the total win of the Bonus Feature reaches or passes 5,000x the bet, only the limit is awarded and the feature closes out. Nothing beyond the cap is paid.
Enhancements
Enhancements are tied to the dragon eggs above the reels, which light up as unlocks progress. Each one changes the round in its own way:
- MORE COLLECTABLES: additional Multipliers, Extra Spins and Value Symbols are added to the reels
- MORE COLLECTORS: additional Collector Symbols are added to the reels
- MORE EXPLOSIONS: explosions occur more often, including at the end of a spin that had a Collector but nothing to collect
- +5 BONUS SPINS: five extra spins awarded before the feature starts
- MORE SPECIAL COLLECTABLES: better odds of a Collectable being assigned a Multiplier or Extra Spin
- UNLOCK MULTIPLIER: all Multiplier values (x2 to x10) add to a running total when a Collector is in view, and the total persists for the rest of the round
- UNLOCK EXTRA SPINS: all Extra Spins values (one to ten) add to the spin total when a Collector is in view
The persistent Multiplier is the one that matters most. Because it survives from spin to spin, a late Collector can sweep a board that has been filling all round at several times its face value. Locked orb symbols showing +1, +3 and +4 spins and multipliers appear mid-round as the build gathers pace.
Explosions carry extra weight inside the round. With MORE EXPLOSIONS active, a spin that ends with a Collector on the board but no Value or Special Symbols in view can still end in a burst, converting everything except the Collector into collectables and paying out on the spot.
One hard limit: re-triggers aren’t possible during the Bonus Feature. Ten spins is what you start with, plus whatever Extra Spins the orbs and enhancements deliver.
Our Honest Verdict
Overall Rating: 7.6/10
Playing Phoenix Reign is mostly tending a fire you hope catches. Small line wins and the odd rescued spin keep the embers glowing, and the one reason to choose it is the round they’re all leading to: orbs banking up on the board while a multiplier quietly climbs, waiting for the phoenix to sweep through. That’s a genuinely good build.
At its best the bonus pays for the wait, because a collector arriving late on a loaded board at a stacked multiplier is worth far more than the same symbols paid spin by spin. But the round carries all the risk too: ten spins, no re-triggers, and enhancements drawn at random rather than chosen. A bare feature can flame out in half a minute.
It suits players who enjoy a long build and can shrug off the dud rounds. Chasers of steady line wins or instant thrills won’t find either here. Those who stay for the burn, though, get a game that knows exactly what its fire is for.
