Secret Riches of the Irish Slot Review
Sunlight breaks through oak branches over a mossy stream, a carved standing stone peers out from behind the reel frame, and gold spills from a vine-wrapped sign. In Jelly Entertainment‘s Secret Riches of the Irish, the winlines are almost a courtesy: the real money sits in pots that pay nothing at all until one leprechaun turns up on reel five to sweep them. Everything this game does well flows from that single dependency, and the glossy storybook art is better than the theme usually gets.
Secret Riches of the Irish runs on a 5×3 grid with 20 always-active winlines, a 94% RTP, medium volatility and a hit frequency of 32.97%. Wins top out at 2,500x your stake. It sits alongside Big Benji’s Back WildWays, Piggy Staxx and Silver’s Gold PowerLinks in the studio’s catalogue. There’s gold at the end of this rainbow; how much of it you’ll reach is the question.
Base Game & Features
Twenty winlines are always active across the five reels, so there’s no line-count fiddling before you spin. Stakes run from 0.20 up to 80 per spin, a 400-step range that covers casual players and higher rollers alike. Wins pay left to right on adjacent reels, and only the highest combination per line counts.
The symbols are the usual Irish crew. Here’s what each one pays, by symbol and tier:
- Beer Mug – 2x for three, 5x for four, 20x for five
- Green Hat – 1.5x for three, 4x for four, 15x for five
- Harp / Ladybug Clover – 1x for three, 3x for four, 10x for five
- A / K – 0.5x for three, 2x for four, 5x for five
- Q / J / 10 – 0.2x for three, 1x for four, 3x for five
The picture symbols are worth roughly double the royals at every tier, and the drop from the Beer Mug down to the Green Hat is steeper than it looks: five mugs pay a third more than five hats. The bottom tier needs three-of-a-kind just to return a fifth of your stake. No line win here will move the needle on its own. The money is in the features.
Pot of Gold Symbols
The Pot of Gold is the money symbol and the wild in one. As a wild it stands in for anything else on a winline. As a money symbol it lands carrying a cash value, and it sits where it fell until something comes to sweep it up.
Because pots are wild as well as valuable, a reel carrying them can complete ordinary line wins and bank cash prizes at the same time. When they stack a full reel during free spins, they do a third job too, which is switching on that reel’s multiplier. It’s the busiest symbol on the board by some distance.
Leppy the Collector
Leppy is the leprechaun who can only land on reel five, and his job is collecting. Whenever he arrives, he gathers up any Pot of Gold prizes in view. That makes reel five the one worth watching, because a screen full of pots pays nothing until he shows up.
He comes in three variants, and each changes what happens to the prizes:
- Collect – gathers all money prizes in view
- Respins Collect – gathers the prizes, then respins for a second chance to land more pots
- Boost Collect – raises every pot value to its next step up, then collects the lot
The Boost is the one you want. Pots already on the reels climb a rung each before the sweep, so a crowded screen pays twice what a plain collect would. The Respins variant trades a little of that certainty for another shot at filling gaps, which matters most when reels one to four are already busy. Whatever the variant, the collect resolves at the end of the spin it lands on.
Bonus Symbols
Bonus symbols don’t pay anything themselves. They’re a key, not a prize, and the lock they open sits in the middle three reels. All three need to appear on the same spin, one per reel, in reels two, three and four.
Secret Riches of the Irish Free Spins
Get a Bonus symbol into each of the middle three reels at once and you’re awarded eight free spins. The super multipliers come alive for the duration of the round, and that’s where the game’s real potential sits.
During the round, a multiplier meter hangs above each of reels one to four. Fill a reel from top to bottom with money symbols and that reel’s multiplier switches on, applying to all winnings for as long as it’s live, not just the stack that triggered it. More than one meter can run at the same time, and the pots keep their collect behaviour throughout, so Leppy and the multipliers can work the same spin.
The order of events matters on those spins. Stacks lock in their multipliers first, any pots not part of a stack still carry their values, and a collect variant arriving on reel five gathers everything at the boosted rate. A Boost Collect on top of two live meters is the round’s ceiling-scraping combination.
Retriggers are generous while the round runs:
- Two Bonus symbols in reels two, three or four award +2 spins
- Three Bonus symbols across those same reels award +4 spins
With a cap of 2,500x on the round’s biggest win, the ceiling is respectable rather than spectacular, but a Boost Collect arriving mid-round with several meters running is where the number gets within reach.
Bonus Buy
If you’d rather skip the wait, the free spins round can be bought outright for 100x your stake, with no additional winnings attached to the purchase. That scales with whatever stake you play, so it’s a ticket for players already committed to the round. The bought round plays exactly like the triggered one, retrigger terms included.
Our Honest Verdict
Overall Rating: 7.1/10
Most of your time here is spent watching pots pile up and waiting for reel five to deliver the leprechaun who makes them worth anything. That waiting game is the whole appeal: when Leppy lands as a Boost Collect over a crowded board, an unremarkable spin turns into the best moment the game has outside its bonus round.
Free spins are the strongest part. Multipliers that switch on per reel and then apply to every win, on a round that retriggers as readily as this one, give the game a second gear that plenty of collect slots never find.
The weakness is that the paytable can’t carry any weight of its own – line wins are pocket change, and the 94% return is a poor one. It’s built for the patient kind of player who enjoys a slow build and doesn’t need a five-figure ceiling, and it isn’t built for chasers of big max wins. For everyone else, this glade is worth a wander, even if the gold is thinner than the scenery suggests.
