Shadow Raiders MultiMax

Shadow Raiders MultiMax Slot Review

Shadow Raiders MultiMax spends most of its time building things it then throws away, and that’s the whole design. Every base game cascade stacks reel multipliers that vanish the instant the run ends, which makes the game feel almost wasteful until you notice the free spins round is the only place anything gets kept. BangBang have committed to that structure with total conviction, wrapping it in a ghost ship’s worth of murky, low-lit horror-pirate artwork rather than the usual yo-ho cheer.

It’s built on a 5×4 grid with ways wins, running at 96.0% RTP with high volatility and a 15,000x win ceiling. It sits in the studio’s catalogue alongside The Runemakers DoubleMax, Fiesta Explosiva DuoMax and Caribbean Catch UltraNudge, and it shares their taste for multipliers that grow rather than reset.

The reel multipliers that give the game its name are the reason to step aboard. The raiders have all the time in the world, and the maths assumes you might need some too.

Base Game & Features

The reels sit in a frame of ship’s timbers and rope, with the gold RAIDERS wordmark stacked over a small MULTIMAX plaque in the corner. Symbols are a mix of pirate-themed icons and the J, K, Q and A royals, and stakes run from 0.20 to 50 per spin.

Wins pay as ways rather than on fixed lines, and the count works like this:

• Count the consecutive reels containing the same symbol, starting from the leftmost reel
• That run of reels is the symbol’s win
• Add every symbol win together for the total ways win
• Only the highest combination per symbol counts

It’s a left-to-right system with no payline map to learn. The interesting part isn’t the win itself, though; it’s what happens immediately after.

Dropdown Feature

Winning symbols disappear from the reels and new symbols drop into the empty spaces. Each time a dropdown win lands, a wild is added to one of the winning positions, so any run of wins feeds the mechanics that follow. A single spin can chain several dropdowns together, each one clearing, refilling and adding another wild.

MultiMax

MultiMax is the feature the game is named for, and it’s where the wilds earn their keep. Every dropdown win generates a wild in an empty position, and each wild increases the multiplier of the reel it lands on by one.

Dropdowns with winning symbols on a reel that carries a multiplier have their pay multiplied by each qualifying multiplier. Two wilds on the same reel put it at x2; three put it at x3. Stack them during a long cascade and the numbers climb with every step, because each win in the chain pays through whatever that reel has built.

In the base game those multipliers reset when the run ends. A cascade that assembled x4 on a reel is worth nothing to the next spin, which is what makes the free spins round matter.

Booty Bomb

On any cascade, once a wild has landed, the remaining empty spaces may drop a Booty Bomb. When one lands, it reveals either all symbols of the same type or cash prizes across the spaces it fills.

If cash prizes are revealed, each one is multiplied by the multiplier on the reel containing it. A bomb on a reel sitting at x2 or better can turn a modest cascade into the best moment of the spin, and there’s no waiting for the reveal to resolve through the multipliers; it pays straight away.

Shadow Raiders MultiMax Free Spins & Bonus Features

Everything the base game builds and tears down gets kept in the bonus round. There are several ways in, and they all end at the same destination:

• Raiders Free Spins – three or more bonus symbols award eight free spins
• Gamble – a ladder from eight spins up to fourteen
• Bonus Boost – an extra 50% on the total bet to double the trigger chance
• Buy Bonus – pay x100 for eight spins, or x350 for fourteen

Raiders Free Spins

Hitting three or more bonus symbols awards eight free spins at the end of the game round. The difference from the base game is simple and significant: in Raiders Free Spins the reel multipliers don’t reset between spins, so the round starts building from wherever the last spin left off.

By the back half of a good round, several reels can be carrying multipliers at once, and every dropdown win pays through all of them. Booty Bomb cash prizes get the same treatment, multiplied by the reel they sit on. Wilds keep landing on every dropdown too, so the multipliers keep growing right to the final spin.

Gamble

On entering Raiders Free Spins, players can gamble their spin count before the round begins. The ladder has two rungs:

• 8 to 11 free spins – the first gamble
• 11 to 14 free spins – the second, for those still standing

The chance of winning each gamble is shown on a wheel as a green and red split, so the risk is visible before you take it. Losing costs the stake in the obvious way: the gamble gives nothing back, and you take what you brought.

Bonus Boost

For an extra 50% on the total bet, Bonus Boost can be activated before spinning. It doubles the chance of winning free spins, which on a game with an 18.32% hit frequency is a meaningful nudge towards the round where the money lives.

Buy Bonus

There are two ways to buy straight into the feature, at your chosen bet size:

• x100 the bet for eight free spins
• x350 the bet for the Super Bonus, which awards fourteen free spins

The Super Bonus skips the gamble ladder entirely and starts where the riskiest gamble would have landed you, with the maximum fourteen spins and multipliers that never reset. At 350x the bet, the Super Bonus is a steep ticket at any stake, which tells you exactly what kind of bankroll the Super Bonus is pitched at.

Our Honest Verdict

Overall Rating: 7.6/10

Playing Shadow Raiders MultiMax is a long, quiet drift on a becalmed deck punctuated by one very loud round. The reason anyone chooses it over a friendlier pirate slot is that persistence: multipliers that survive spin after spin instead of resetting, so a good round grows heavier with every turn in a way the base game never allows.

That free spins round is the best thing here, and it’s genuinely good rather than merely big. A Booty Bomb landing late, on a reel carrying x3 or more, is the moment the whole structure pays off.

The base game is the weakness. An 18.32% hit frequency means long stretches where nothing lands, and with multipliers wiped after every run, those stretches have nothing to chew on. This is one for players who like volatility with a single clear payoff and don’t need the base game to entertain them on the way. Everyone else will find the wait before the raid longer than the raid itself.
