Tower of Ra Slot Review
A giant falcon spreads its wings behind the logo of Tower of Ra, one clawed hand gripping an ornate staff that runs down the edge of the reels. Mountains of stacked gold coins spill around the grid, and pyramids smoulder in the desert haze beyond. The artwork isn’t decoration: this is a slot that holds your winnings back, banking every multiplier you catch for a payout that only arrives later, and whether that patience is a pleasure or a slog is the whole question of the game.
Crazy Tooth Studio have built their gilded desert around exactly that idea. It runs on a 5×3 grid with 21 paylines, at 96.51% RTP with high volatility, and stakes run from 0.25 to 25.00 per spin. Sister titles include Tower of Atlantis and Lucky Clucks, with Rhino Rilla Rex rounding out a varied catalogue.
The falcon isn’t going anywhere. Time to find out what it’s actually guarding.
Base Game & Features
Wins need three or more matching symbols on a payline, on adjacent reels starting from the left. Matching symbols must sit next to each other on that line, and only the highest win per payline is paid. Payline wins are multiplied by the bet multiplier of the game you’re playing.
That multiplier has a 0.25 credit base: your bet multiplier is the number of credits played divided by 0.25. Bet 0.50 per spin and you’re on a multiplier of 2; bet 1.00 and it’s 4; bet the full 25.00 and it’s 100. Every payout table displays credits won at your current multiplier, so the figures shift with your stake.
A standard wild substitutes for all paying symbols and never for scatters. Simple enough. The real work happens in the background.
Scatters can appear on any reel, and they only appear in the base game. Land three or more on a single spin and they don’t pay as a combination: they open the bonus instead.
The BIG BuildUp Symbol
The BIG BuildUp symbol lands in the base game and does one thing: it adds an additional multiplier to your collected store of BIG BuildUp Multipliers. It’s a passive symbol that doesn’t pay anything itself, and it only appears in the base game.
Every one you catch is banked for later. There’s no cap on the collection, so the store keeps growing for as long as the base game runs.
The Ra Multiplier Feature
The Ra Multiplier Feature may be triggered randomly on any spin, which is why the game flashes its “any spin may trigger feature” reminder alongside the ladder of multiplier values. When it fires, all of your collected multipliers are placed on the reels at once, as wild multiplier symbols that multiply any line wins they’re part of.
Feature wins are added to regular wins, and the feature ends once every multiplier has been placed and every winning line paid. The possible multiplier symbols, and where each one can appear, are:
- 2X – reels 1 and 3 in the base game; reels 1, 3 and 4 in the feature
- 3X – reels 2 and 5 in the feature
- 4X – reels 1, 3 and 5 in the feature
- 5X – reels 2 and 4 in the feature
- 7X – reels 1 and 5 in the feature
- 10X – reel 3 in the feature
Credit awards during the feature are multiplied by the feature bet multiplier, so a long-running collection pays at the stake you were on when it landed. Nothing is deducted from your store to trigger it: the placement is the payoff for everything the base game has been quietly stacking.
The Tower of Ra Bonus featuring MegaClimb
Land three or more scatter symbols on a single spin and the Tower of Ra Bonus triggers. The number you land matters more than usual here: the bonus plays out across up to five active reels, one symbol each, and however many scatters triggered it determines how many of those reels are live.
Any inactive reels are disabled before the first spin, leaving only the active ones able to turn. Each spin, every active reel lands one of four symbols:
- Prize Increase – raises the prize value on that reel
- Advance – moves that reel one position higher on the tower; three Advances collect the prize
- Skull – disables the reel it lands on, ending that climb
- Blank – passive, does nothing
The four symbols only exist inside the bonus. Each active reel runs its own climb independently, so a single spin can land an Advance on one reel, a Prize Increase on another and a Skull on a third, and all three resolve at once. A reel that collects its prize keeps spinning for another; a reel that hits a Skull is dead for the rest of the round.
The tension is in the routing. A reel one Advance from collecting can be killed at any point, while the Prize Increase symbols keep fattening the values you’re racing to collect. The bonus runs until no active reels remain, and it doesn’t retrigger: what you win in the round is what the round pays.
The bonus bet multiplier is set by the bet of the triggering spin, so everything the tower pays scales with the stake you were on when the scatters landed. Bonus wins are added to regular wins.
The tower’s prizes are the measure of what a round can pay.
Our Honest Verdict
Overall Rating: 7.7/10
Playing Tower of Ra is a long accrual with a punchline. The reels rarely hand you anything outright; they hand you a receipt for later. That’s the one reason to pick it: every session leaves you visibly richer in banked multipliers, and when the feature finally fires, the pile lands all at once.
The bonus round carries the game. Five reels climbing at once, each one a separate little gamble against a Skull, means a single round can pay from several directions before it’s done. The weakness sits just underneath: the 25.00 stake cap keeps the whole enterprise modest for something this volatile.
It’s for players who like watching a total creep upward. For the patient, though, Ra pays out like a god who’s been counting.
