Zeus Rising Slot Review
A Greek temple sits half-cropped at the edge of the frame, jagged peaks behind it and a sea of cloud below, with the whole scene lit in night blues and gold. Mount Olympus is the setting for Zeus Rising, and G Games have gone fully painterly with it. Here’s the twist, though: the game’s biggest prize belongs to its cheapest symbols. A screen full of low-value bronze coins, nearly worthless as line wins, is the one screen that can pay 5,000x.
The reels run 5×4 across 10 paylines, and the game publishes no RTP figure you can rely on. The studio’s other reviewed titles include Cthulhu and Dead Man’s Fingers, alongside Serendipity. Whether the storm delivers is what follows.
Symbols and Pays
Wins are evaluated across 10 fixed paylines, left to right in the usual way. Three, four or five matching symbols on a line is the whole grammar here, and all pay values are multiples of the total bet rather than the line bet. Only the highest combination on a line counts.
The cast is a familiar Greek one. Up top sit the Woman, Pegasus, the eagle and the bull; below them, a run of coins struck with Zeus, Pegasus, an eagle, a tree and a bull, in descending order of value.
- Woman (Hera-like figure): 2x, 5x, 20x
- Pegasus (white): 1.5x, 3x, 10x
- Eagle: 1x, 2.5x, 7.5x
- Bull: 1x, 2.5x, 7.5x
- Gold Coin (Zeus head): 0.5x, 1.5x, 2.5x
- Silver Coin (Pegasus): 0.5x, 1.5x, 2.5x
- Bronze Coin (Eagle), Green Coin (Tree) and Red Coin (Bull): 0.4x, 0.8x, 2x
- Wild (Zeus): 2x, 5x, 20x
Those bottom three coins share a single pay tier, so the colour differences are cosmetic rather than economic. It means five of the game’s nine paying symbols sit at or below 2.5x for a full line, which tells you most line wins will be modest.
The Wild, drawn as Zeus himself, substitutes for every symbol except the Bonus, and it’s the joint richest symbol on the grid alongside the Woman. It also carries a lightning bolt icon on occasion, which matters in the next section.
The Lightning Meter
Lightning bolt icons land attached to certain symbols: the coins, the Wild, and the eagle. Each one feeds a vertical prize ladder that climbs the side of the game. Fill the meter and you collect the prize it has reached.
- 1x – the first rung
- 5x
- 15x
- 50x
- 500x
- 5,000x – the top rung
The single-spin rule is the one that matters. Land 15 lightning symbols on one spin and the game pays the full 5,000x straight out.
It’s a big ask on a 5×4 grid, but it’s the game’s ceiling and the reason to keep an eye on that ladder. Because the bolts ride on ordinary paying symbols, every spin carries two outcomes at once: the line win the symbols make, and the progress their bolts add to the meter.
The ladder’s shape rewards persistence unevenly. The first four rungs climb gently, from 1x to 50x, and then the top two jump to 500x and 5,000x. So the difference between a nearly full meter and a complete one isn’t incremental; it’s the difference between a decent win and the game’s headline payout.
Since the bolts only ride on coins, the Wild and the eagle, a spin stacked with character symbols can be quietly useless for the meter. The reverse is true too. A screen of low-value bronze coins, worth fractions of the bet as line wins, becomes the most valuable screen in the game if enough of them are carrying bolts.
Bonus Symbols and Free Spins
Bonus symbols are the second special, and they don’t pay directly. Each one that lands awards a random number of free spins, shown as a figure from one to nine. Land a cluster and the numbers add together.
- Each Bonus symbol carries its own value, from 1 to 9 free spins
- All values on the same spin are added together
- Example: three, eight and one Bonus symbols landing together award 12 free spins
- Five Bonus symbols on a single spin is the ceiling, worth up to 45 free spins
The arithmetic makes even a modest cluster worthwhile. Two Bonus symbols at the top value of nine apiece hand over eighteen free spins, and the theoretical range for five symbols runs from five to forty-five.
No retrigger rule for the round is published, so treat the initial award as what you get. The wild and the lightning meter carry on doing their jobs during free spins, which is where a long run of bolt-carrying symbols could push the ladder towards its top rung.
Our Honest Verdict
Overall Rating: 7/10
This is a simple game wearing very good clothes. Ten lines, one wild, two specials, and you’ll understand all of it inside a minute – that immediacy is exactly why somebody would pick it over the feature-stacked stuff next door. Olympus has rarely looked this handsome at this price of admission.
The Lightning Meter is the best thing here by some distance. It gives every spin a second outcome to watch, and the single-spin 5,000x payout puts a jackpot-style spike into a game whose paytable alone would never produce one.
Its weakness is the shape of everything beneath that spike: five of nine symbols pay 2.5x or less for a full line, and the free spins round runs on the same reels with nothing extra attached, so long stretches sit and wait on bolts and Bonus symbols. If you want a calm, readable line-payer with one big ladder to climb, this is your mountain; anyone chasing layered bonus rounds will find the air up here thin.
