Zap Attack Slot Review & Demo 2024

Aliens have taken over the remote town of Roswealth in Thunderkick’s latest release, Zap Attack!

In the small town of Roswealth, strange and mysterious things are occurring. Beams of light, static noises, and shadows lurking in the distance have become the norm here, and it looks like an Alien Invasion is imminent for this once quiet and secluded town.

Age is just a number to this brutal bunch of Aliens, and they won’t hesitate to blast your beloved granny into oblivion if they get the chance. Residents must come together to protect not only themselves but their hometown before a full Alien infestation breaks out!

Zap Attack follows in the footsteps of many other Thunderkick slots, with an appealing theme, modern graphics, and a colourful cartoonish design. Amidst the Alien invasion, you will witness the Expanding Multiplier Wilds feature and a Free Spins round that are out-of-this-world.

Can we stop these Aliens from taking over Roswealth and restore it back to its former glory? Let’s play on and find out!

Zap Attack Base Game and Features

Zap Attack is a 5-reel slot with 25 fixed pay lines. Winning combinations are formed when 3 or more of the same symbols (or 2 or more of the highest-paying symbol) land from left to right, starting from the leftmost reel.

The minimum bet available here is £.€0.10 per spin and the maximum bet available is £.€100 per spin, with plenty of other options in between the two. Zap Attack has a theoretical RTP of 96.15% and a max win cap of 5,000x.

In terms of symbols, the highest-paying regular symbol here is the Alien, followed by Characters with Yellow, Pink, Purple, and Blue Backgrounds. Low-paying symbols are standard Ace, King, Queen, Jack, and Ten. Wilds substitute for all other symbols except Scatters.

Expanding Multiplier Wilds

During the base game and Free Spins round, special Expanding Multiplier Wild symbols can land across the reels.

Expanding Multiplier Wilds will expand to fill the entire reel they are on with a random Multiplier of x2, x3, x4, or x5, so long as they are part of at least one winning combination once expanded.

Zap Attack Free Spins

Landing 3, 4, or 5 Scatters across the reels during the base game triggers the Free Spins round, awarding 7, 11, and 15 Free Spins respectively.

During Free Spins, the highest-paying Alien symbol may use its gun to shoot another High-paying symbol in a special meter to the right of the reel set.

Each zap on a High-paying symbol is collected and stored in this meter for the corresponding symbol. Aliens will shoot other High-paying symbols in the following order; Yellow Sheriff, Purple Grandma, Pink Waitress, and Blue Farmer.

Once a particular High-paying symbol meter is filled with 10 Zaps, the corresponding symbol will transform into the highest-paying Alien symbol for the remainder of Free Spins, awarding +1 Free Spin.

Landing 2, 3, 4, or 5 Scatters during this time will award an additional +3, +5, +7, and +9 Free Spins respectively.

Zap Attack: Our Verdict

Thunderkick is well known for their exceptional collection of popular titles, including the Beat the Beast series, Midas Golden Touch, and Riders of the Storm. Quality mechanics and features are always at the heart of a Thunderkick title, but can the same be said about Zap Attack?

The Expanding Multiplier Wilds feature can be non-existent at times, kind of like the existence of Alien life forms (apologies if you’re a true believer).  When it does dramatically appear, it can deliver some pretty epic hits here and there.

Zap Attack revives certain elements of Pink Elephants and Pink Elephants 2 during the Free Spins round, but rather than the tranquility of collecting orbs, you need Aliens to zap the cr*p out of the local residents.

At the start, we were all about saving the residents of Roswealth, but now it seems more beneficial to sacrifice them if it means bigger wins and upgrades.

On a day when the Aliens are feeling particularly zappy, Zap Attack can produce max wins of up to 5,000x. This figure isn’t quite as appealing as Sword of Shoguns or even Pink Elephants for that matter, but there’s still something oddly satisfying about zapping an entire town of residents into a million pieces, don’t you think?
