Upon loading this rather unique Blueprint Gaming offering, our first reaction was something along the lines of “What the funk” – such was our surprise at discovering a glammed-up Buddha assume the role of DJ for the afternoon.

That initial bewilderment quickly subsided once it became apparent the game was not as original as it first implied. Unpeel the admittedly inviting outer layer, and what we discover is a regurgitated math model borrowed from an earlier studio release, D10S Maradona. Where that game cast the legendary Diego Maradona in the role of Cash Collector in four different guises, here it’s up to one of four Buddhas to perform those duties. Same same but different, as the Thais would say – where the Buddha enjoys widespread worship, incidentally.

Blueprint Gaming is the brains behind cult classics like The Goonies and Fishin’ Frenzy, so they certainly know a thing or two about how to whip up a crowd. While this contribution brims with a fair measure of originality too, while offering an impressive 50,000x max win, it loses credibility for its reskin status.

That said, DJ for the day does have some decent tunes in his locker that go well with the poolside vibe, and the visuals are certainly pleasing to the eye, so if you’re down for some casual slot fun while grooving along to modern lounge hits in a jovial atmosphere, Funky Buddha isn’t the worst choice.
