20 Keys of Fate Slot Review
Most slots reward you for watching the right symbols line up. 20 Keys of Fate barely cares what lines up: the game quietly hands its entire personality to a single exchange between a key on the first reel and locks on the rest. That’s a bolder flattening than the candlelit throne room around it suggests, and Felix Gaming commit to it fully.
The frame is 5×3 with 20 paylines, a scatter that pays anywhere, and a progressive jackpot ticking away in the corner. Everything else exists to feed the one mechanic, a multiplier wild arriving on Reel 1 to open prize symbols further along.
Base Game & Features
The layout is conventional. Wins pay left to right across 20 fixed paylines, and only the highest combination on each line counts. A scatter sits on all five reels and pays from any position, ignoring paylines entirely.
There are eight paying symbols in total: a Ring, a Compass, a Scroll and a Feather carry the theme, with the four card suits, Club, Heart, Diamond and Spade, filling out the lower end. The full ladder looks like this:
- Ring: three pays 1.20, four pays 12.00, five pays 30.00
- Compass: three pays 1.20, four pays 4.80, five pays 15.00
- Scroll: three pays 0.60, four pays 2.40, five pays 12.00
- Feather: three pays 0.60, four pays 1.20, five pays 6.00
- Club: three pays 0.60, four pays 1.20, five pays 6.00
- Heart: three pays 0.30, four pays 0.60, five pays 3.00
- Diamond: three pays 0.30, four pays 0.60, five pays 3.00
- Spade: three pays 0.30, four pays 0.60, five pays 3.00
Those are credit values, so the multiple you actually receive depends on your stake. The symbols split into four tiers, with Ring and Compass paying more than Scroll, Feather and Club, and those in turn paying more than Heart, Diamond and Spade. That tiering matters less than it might, because the game’s real money sits in the key and lock mechanics.
The wild substitutes for every regular paying symbol except the scatter and the lock, which makes it a straightforward workhorse on this grid. A running multiplier counter sits beside the spin control during play, a small touch that keeps the arithmetic of the game visible while the reels turn.
20 Keys of Fate Bonus Features
Key Wilds
Three Key symbols appear on Reel 1 only: Bronze, Silver and Golden, carrying multipliers of x1, x2 and x3 respectively. A Key acts as a wild, substituting for all regular paying symbols except the scatter and the lock.
- Bronze Key: x1 multiplier
- Silver Key: x2 multiplier
- Golden Key: x3 multiplier
When a Key forms part of a winning combination on a payline, the win is multiplied by that Key’s value. Scatter wins are the one payout category the Keys leave alone. Simple on its own, which is the point: the Keys exist to unlock the other half of the design.
Lock Feature
Lock symbols appear on Reels 2 to 5 only, so a Key on Reel 1 and a Lock further along can land together. Land at least one of each in the same spin and every visible Lock opens. Each Lock is randomly assigned one of seven values, expressed as multiples of the total bet:
- 1x
- 2x
- 3x
- 5x
- 10x
- 20x
- 50x
From there the payout runs in three steps. The values of all opened Locks are added together, the total is multiplied by the highest Key multiplier visible on the reels, and the result is added to any other wins in the same spin. The three-step order is what gives the feature its reach: with four Lock-bearing reels in play, several small values can stack into one multiplied sum.
Key multipliers are never added together or multiplied by one another, so a Bronze and a Silver Key in the same spin still means x2, not x3. And Locks award nothing unless a Key is also present, which makes Reel 1 the reel to watch: no Key, and the Locks are decoration.
That dependency runs both ways. A Key on its own still works as a wild and can still multiply a payline win, but without a Lock anywhere on Reels 2 to 5 it’s just a x1, x2 or x3 nudge to a modest line win. The pairing is where the game’s real payouts live, and the design makes you wait for both halves at once.
Our Honest Verdict
Overall Rating: 7/10
Playing this is really playing one reel. Every spin’s interest lives or dies on whether Reel 1 brings a key while the rest carry locks. Felix Gaming have stripped the throne room down to that one tension, and the wait itself is the game.
The strength is the payout maths when it lands: locks stack before the multiplier touches them, so a busy spin pays far more than the 50x top value suggests. The weakness is the stretch between those spins. With no free spins round and no second feature, the base game offers the same modest line wins over and over, and there’s nothing else to break the rhythm.
This is one for players who enjoy a single mechanic done properly and don’t mind long quiet spells in a handsome room. Anyone who wants varied bonus rounds or a busy feature list will find it thin. For the patient kind, the castle doors open often enough to be worth waiting by.

How does the Lock Feature work in 20 Keys of Fate?
Lock symbols land on Reels 2 to 5 only, and they need a Key on Reel 1 to do anything. When both arrive together, every Lock opens. Each carries a random value of 1x, 2x, 3x, 5x, 10x, 20x or 50x the total bet, the values are added together, and the total is multiplied by the highest Key multiplier on the reels. -
What do the Key symbols do in 20 Keys of Fate?
Bronze, Silver and Golden Key symbols appear on Reel 1 only and act as wilds for all regular paying symbols except the scatter and the lock. They carry multipliers of x1, x2 and x3 respectively, applied to any payline win they form part of. Scatter payouts are exempt from the multipliers. -
Do Lock symbols pay without a Key in 20 Keys of Fate?
No. Lock symbols don’t award a prize unless a Key is also present in the same spin. No Key on Reel 1, and the Locks are dead weight. -
Are Key multipliers added together in 20 Keys of Fate?
No. When more than one Key is visible, only the highest multiplier applies, and Key multipliers are never multiplied by one another. A Bronze and a Silver Key together still means x2. -
Does the scatter pay anywhere in 20 Keys of Fate?
Yes. Scatter symbols can land on any of the five reels and pay from any position, so paylines don’t matter for them. They’re also the one payout the Key multipliers don’t touch.
