Gates of Troy Base Game and Features
Gates of Troy is a 5 reel slot with 30 fixed paylines. Winning combinations are formed when 3 or more of the same symbol types land from left to right, starting from the left-most reel.
The minimum bet available here is £/€0.10 per spin and the maximum bet available is £/€30 per spin, with a small selection of betting options in between the two. Gates of Troy has a theoretical RTP of 96.20% and a maximum win capacity of 3,000x.
In terms of symbols, the highest paying regular symbol in Gates of Troy is Helen of Troy, followed by Achilles, a Fruit Bowl and a Vase. Low-paying symbols are standard Ace, King, Queen, Jack and Ten.
There is also 2 Wild symbols present in the form of Greek soldiers, and both substitute for all other symbols except Scatters. Multiplier Wilds that are used as part of a winning combination will multiply the win by the value shown on the Wild.
Guaranteed Scatters
During any random spin in the base game, 2 Scatter symbols can be randomly placed on the reel set.
This feature is a great way to help towards achieving the Free Spins round, but there is no guarantee that a 3rd Scatter will land.
Gates of Troy Free Spins
Landing 3, 4 or 5 Scatters in any position on the reels triggers the Free Spins round, awarding 10 Free Spins and a payout of 1x, 10x and 100x your current bet respectively.
During the Free Spins round, Wild symbols leave behind firey frames on the position they appeared and remain there for the duration of Free Spins. On the 10th and final Free Spin, all present fiery frames will transform into Wild symbols including those with Multipliers.
Gates of Troy: Our Verdict
Gates of Troy isn’t bad if you’re thinking about it in the artistic sense. Ample resource went into making it aesthetically pleasing, but is the gameplay as good?
Yes and no. One one hand, Gates of Troy can certainly perform, but you’ll know pretty early on if it’s not going to, and it kind of kills the mood. This isn’t the first time that we’ve seen a slot that leaves behind a space reserved for a Wild on the last spin, and opinions are clearly divided on the appeal of this kind of feature.
All Free Spins before the last are designed purely to build spaces for Wilds, and it’s a really bummer when you’re more than halfway through with a small number of Wilds to show for your efforts. If you’ve got a fairly good momentum going, then Gates of Troy can certainly reel you in, but we’re just not fans of this kind of thing.
Every spin should have the potential to be exciting, and it just feels like Gates of Troy lacks that.
