High Voltage Fruits Slot Review
Gold coins are heaped along the top of a thick golden frame, spilling over the edge, while cyan light glows from an arena floor below the reels. High Voltage Fruits is honest about where its money goes: nearly everything worth winning sits inside one bonus round, and the classic fruit paytable out front is mostly there to keep the lights on while you wait for it.
Evoplay‘s 5×4, 20-payline release runs at 96.29% RTP in normal mode, with an EPIC jackpot worth 8,000x the bet sitting at the top of a five-tier ladder. It sits in familiar company alongside the studio’s Fruit Fusion: Three Pots and Piggy Bank: Coinstorm. All that voltage had better pay off.
Symbols, Wilds and Pays
Wins form left to right across 20 fixed paylines, with only the highest combination per line paid. The symbol set is classic fare: 777s, bells, horseshoes and the usual fruit, ten regular symbols in all.
The 777 is the symbol doing the heavy lifting, paying from just two of a kind. Everything below it steps down in tidy increments, and the bottom tier pays modestly even at five of a kind.
- 777: x0.5 for two, x5 for three, x10 for four, x50 for five
- Bell: x3, x7.5, x20 for three, four, five
- Horseshoe: x2, x7, x15
- BAR: x1, x5, x10
- Watermelon: x0.5, x2, x7
- Grapes and Orange: x0.3, x1.5, x5
- Plum, Lemon and Cherry: x0.2, x1, x3
The wild substitutes for all regular symbols except the scatter and bonus symbols, and it only appears on reels two to four. It can also carry an x2 or x3 multiplier, with two or more multipliers in the same winning combination summed together.
The scatter is a lightning bolt that pays x1, x5 or x10 for three, four or five, in any position. Three or more of them anywhere on the reels trigger the free spins.
Free Spins
The scatter count decides the award, and the gaps between tiers are sizeable. Landing five scatters gets you more than double the spins of three.
- Three scatters: 8 free spins
- Four scatters: 12 free spins
- Five scatters: 18 free spins
During the round, every wild carries an x2 or x3 multiplier, which is where the free spins find most of their punch. The wilds still only land on the middle three reels, but with a multiplier guaranteed on each one, combinations through them pay double or triple by default.
Retriggers need just two scatters. Two awards 4 extra spins, three awards 8, four awards 12 and five awards 18, matching the original ladder. The round plays at the bet of the triggering spin.
The Bonus Game
Four or more bonus symbols anywhere in the main game trigger the bonus round, and this is what the whole build is pointed at. Every bonus symbol carries a money value of 0.5x, 1x, 2x, 3x, 4x or 5x the total bet, or one of four jackpot marks: MINI, MEGA, SUPER and GRAND. Those values only pay out inside the bonus game.
The round itself is a hold-and-collect affair. Regular symbols fade away, the triggering bonus symbols stick, and the reels are replaced with special reels carrying only bonus symbols and empty spaces.
You start with three spins, and every new bonus symbol that lands resets the count to three and locks in place. It ends when the spins run dry or all 40 positions fill. Everything on active positions is then summed and paid as one total.
Lucky Lightning
Any bonus symbol that lands on a spin with no winning combination has a chance to strike Lucky Lightning. Extra bonus symbols then appear in random positions, lifting the total to between four and six and triggering the bonus game on the spot. It’s a rescue mechanic for near-misses, and it means a single stray bonus symbol is never entirely dead.
Locked Rows
The bonus game is actually played on a 5×8 grid, with rows five through eight locked at the start. Bonus symbols collected on active positions unlock them in stages:
- 5th row unlocks at 8 bonus symbols
- 6th row at 12
- 7th row at 16
- 8th row at 20
Each new bonus symbol landing on an active position reduces every remaining requirement by one, so the unlocks accelerate as the round fills. Only symbols on active positions count towards the win, which makes the early rows matter most.
Boost Machine
At the start of the round, the Boost Machine picks one multiplier from x2, x3, x4, x5 or x7 and stamps it onto between four and eight random empty positions. Any bonus symbol landing on a marked position has its value multiplied accordingly.
Each such landing also has a chance to reactivate the machine, which selects a fresh multiplier and adds it to two to four more empty positions. Long rounds can end up carpeted in multipliers.
Jackpots
Five jackpots can only be won inside the bonus game, four of them as bonus symbols and the fifth as the round’s finish line:
- EPIC: 8,000x the bet, for filling all 40 positions
- GRAND: 500x the bet
- SUPER: 100x the bet
- MEGA: 30x the bet
- MINI: 15x the bet
Filling all 40 positions with bonus symbols of any type wins the EPIC jackpot.
Bonus Buy
Both features can be bought straight from the main game. The purchase triggers a spin that delivers the required scatters or bonus symbols, and the round plays at the total bet of the purchase round. The option isn’t available in every market, and only in the main game.
- Bonus Game: 75x total bet (96.31% RTP)
- 8 Free Spins: 30x total bet (96.10% RTP)
- 12 Free Spins: 46x total bet (96.17% RTP)
- 18 Free Spins: 66x total bet (96.00% RTP)
Our Honest Verdict
Overall Rating: 7.6/10
Most of a session here is waiting, and the game is upfront about it. You spin a polite classic paytable, watch lone bonus symbols come and go, and stay for the one round everything is built around. If that sounds like a flaw, it isn’t: the round is worth the wait.
Its strength is that the bonus game compounds. Every symbol that lands makes the next unlock cheaper and the multipliers thicker, so a good round doesn’t just pay, it keeps getting better while it does. The weakness is everything either side of it. The base paytable caps at 50x and the free spins are the weaker of the two features by a distance, so the waits between highlights are real ones.
For anyone who loves a hold-and-collect round with a proper ladder at the end of it, this one is easy to like, neon trim and all. It’s a poorer fit for players who want the classic half of a game to carry its own weight; the fruit here is set dressing, and the voltage all points one way.
